So, the update just went live. Atheon can no longer be pushed off his platform. He'll also select people at random to be thrown across time. He's a real bastard, eh?
I talked a lot to the developers about your opinions on the matter. You don't want to be selected at random. You want to choose who gets to fetch the Relic under fire from those nasty Oracles. I spoke on your behalf. Your voice was heard. We discussed your concerns.
I even said "Why not just change Hard Mode and leave Easy Mode alone?"
I was told "The Raid is never supposed to be easy."
At that point, I recalled all the times I stood and delivered the line "...the most challenging encounter we've ever created." It was hard to disagree. As a veteran of Cairo Station on Legendary in Halo, I had to admit that I had been carried through the Raid like luggage assigned to my clan. I did my own carrying later, but carrying had been done.
This is an activity that was designed to be undertaken by a hardcore team that is ready and willing to adapt and improvise to changing battle conditions. Like the moment when the Templar shields random players, the Final Boss was supposed to be extremely dangerous. While we've been working on some of the other things for which you've been asking (i.e. better exotics, voice chat in matchmaking, more bounties), the designers who made the Raid have plugged the holes that you showed them.
If you got in on the ground floor of this thing, we thank you. If you understand the mechanics for how to beat Atheon, it's still a thing you can teach your friends. If you're all up to the challenge, the Raid is waiting for you.
Let's talk about it. Please sound off in this thread, and know that I'll be reading.

The changes make sense to me, bunch of crybabies on this forum.

2 RepliesNot for nothing. I for one have pushed Atheon off as many times across multiple characters as possible. Supposedly you can still push him off and I will try to do that too. I will keep pushing off the templar until that is fixed, and if there is a way to push off the next raid bosses I will do that too. Anyone with me???

Has deej responded to any of this? I'm curious to hear his thoughts of how he gave us evidence that they will not take our concerns seriously

1 ReplyEdited by BRaptor: 10/29/2014 5:58:06 PMSo we beat atheon last night on hard. took about 4-5 tries. Really wasnt as bad as everyone was anticipating(myself included). i got 6 shards, my wife gets vex, the helmet, and the time breaker. we would have had it done sooner, but in the future portal, the praetorian was gaining health with each additional hit from the relic holder = wipe. Atheon teleported 3 random people, but they were all detained = wipe. i used a heavy ammo synthesis which didnt give me ammo, which cost me on guarding a portal praetorian, which killed me early on (in the past, when teleporting wasnt random, i couldve adjusted and went into the portal to make up for this). and we had atheon somehow rocket 2 people that were perfectly centered in the bubble, shooting a sniper rifle, but the rest of the team survived. i saved the video for this, ill upload it when i get home from work if people dont believe that this all happened in the same run, but im adamant that those mechanics are bugs. teleporting 3 random people...im still scratching my head at that "bug". i dont see how the teleporting 3 random players hit the priority check list, while these other bugs have been going on since the beginning. thats what feels like the slap in the face right there. this "fix" didnt make the raid more fun, it made the other bugs that much more prominent.

4 RepliesEdited by harrymfa: 10/29/2014 3:36:58 AMI'm done with feedback. You guys end up doing whatever you feel like anyway. Instead of micro-managing how we play your game, you never addressed the game's real problems. The real priorities that are making the game a mess. You want the raid to be cleared by a team, but you don't have a method how to build a team. Voice chat for matchmaking? No, you have to find random people out of the game, in forums, like a whore on Craigslist. Your priorities are to force people play the way you want it. You are spending too much time in the Loot Cave because our reward system sucks? Don't fix the rewards, but patch the Loot Cave. You have done the raid so many times, you can do it in your sleep? Don't add content, just make the raid frustrating. I don't care anymore. Fortunately, I didn't buy the DLC in advance. You guys should go back with Microsoft, seriously. You -blam!-ed up. Go eat a turd. -blam!- you.

Hi DeeJ, now I'm not angry with this in the slightest In fact It's nice to see that you're doing this kinda. But this isn't the problem with the game and you know that. The RNG is so terrible in this game that people have to do cheesing methods to get a shot at having a decent item. I've done the raid at least 20 times 4 times on hard and even with cheesing him I've only still gotten just materials a ship and chatterwhite. Now the real issues with the vault are to many or to few people getting teleported, massive delays in killing things (to the point that they'll just not register and will kill you in the case of oracles), and still being kicked. These issues have been here for weeks and still aren't fixed and makes doing the raid on hard impossible. You should devote to these issues and not worrying weather someone will push him off or not. We tried doing the Raid on hard legitimately last night and after we beat everything fine and got to Atheon BOOM that's when things got bad. Now we're not the best players in the world not by any means, but we're more than capable of beating him if these issues weren't prevalent. The issue is not in the toughness of enemies or damage output but instead in issues like the ones listed above. We had people (lvl 30s and 29s with fully lvld weapons/gear) in the portal and we'd empty several magazines each on a single oracle and the damage just wouldn't register and that even happened several times in a row. At one point we got Atheon down to a little more than 1/4 left of his health and it happened again and we wiped...again. People we're still getting kicked and we again got Atheon down to half health and BOOM two people got kicked and we just didn't have enough people and wiped again. To few or to many are still getting teleported and we either have to many people in the gate and not enough people to defend (not being able to cause enough damage to praetorians in enough time). Or too many people on out side and not enough in side (which isn't as bad because we just send someone in once we open the gate). All these things hinder hugely on the Atheon part because after doing it 20-40 times the same things were happening. We get him down to a good amount of health and BOOM glitches and preventions that say "Ha you're not cheesing him, well this is what you get for trying to do it the intended way." This makes me not even want to do a Raid anymore if it's actually impossible to do it(again not because we're not skilled because damage and tactics weren't an issue only Net code and not correctly teleporting is). If you're actually listening Bungie, then let us know. Or if you're not then at least don't say you are. I'm a big boy now and I'd at least like you to give me the courtesy of you not saying lies, although given these past few months maybe you don't even know that you are lying anymore.

Wasn't that hard on normal...I have yet to do it in hard.

6 RepliesI'm running 3 raids this week, as I've done several weeks past. Historically, we bring in a couple new guys, and several experienced. Even some of our experienced guys, are not great gamers, but they are good at certain tasks. It was one thing to say, we've designed a raid where all players must learn the puzzle, learn the raid and learn the jobs that go along with it. It was another thing entirely to say - we didn't like how quickly or efficiently you were working together to beat Atheon, so, we are making Everyone in your crew know everything... and we are injecting chaos into the puzzle... no longer will you have strategy, but pure chaos...everyone must know everything, you will not know who will go at any given time to the away team, and everyone must cover everything and all jobs. Why? Just to make it harder? Just to up the caliber of player who gets into your Raid? You have done nothing but alienate a group of players with this decision. We have folks who used to attend our raids regularly who now, will not be able to join. They just don't have the kind of time or memory to fully appreciate all jobs in the Atheon fight. They were great at the job or two they had to do, and we could assign them a role... but when you say all players must do good at all jobs, then no. They are not good at that. It's too complicated for them and they get confused. The game of the raid loses a strategy and fun factor and just becomes a process of becoming a well oiled perfect operating machine for all involved... all players must know everything and must know it well, all must know an order as to who picks up the relic and all must know which positions they cover, etc, etc... you've litterally taken the fun out of the end game fight... the reward of learning how everything works and then having the feeling of CONQUERING the end game fight is now somehow missing. Now, you learn, and progress, all the way up to the point of - pushing everyone to a new plateau on the final fight - now everyone must become a master of the raid to beat atheon... and then, you can still have the chance to get sharded for the reward. You have really misstepped here. Interesting stats would be how many crews both normal and hard USED to run through Atheon and complete it - in what time... before patch... ON A WEEKLY AVERAGE vs... How many crews run through atheon and complete it post patch... and if so, how long... ON A WEEKLY AVERAGE and also... how many attempted but did not a COMPLETE ATHEON each week before patch vs. How many did not COMPLETE ATHEON each week after the patch on both hard and normal. I suspect, you've litterally killed the enjoyment and accessibility of the raid for a broad swathe of your audience. Is that really what you wanted to do? How is that a good thing for the longevity of Destiny? Introducing chaos into Atheon will in time, be deemed a mistake for VoG hunters... it should be a reversed decision in my humble opinion. I will try three crews this week, but if too painful to complete, due to time to beat atheon... we will either A. only run with elite crews or ... B. only run up to Atheon and drop

NEW ATHEON BUG!!! 50% of the time he only teleports two players. Extremely frustrating!
-
The change in mechanics is fine. What isn't fine is the fact that the bugs weren't fixed before changing the game mechanics.

4 RepliesHello my fellow Guardians! My response to this post is I absolutely love it. Seeing as how I'm a Warlock for life kinda player. It annoys me so much when we're doing so well against Atheon but because people get frustrated due to how long its taking to destroy him, certain individuals (you know who you are smh!) wants to push the boss of the battlefield. And the sad thing is, they need a Warlock to do it. I'm so happy that you guys fix that. The issue with Atheon randomly teleporting players through the time stream is a brilliant idea. It forces players to learn new ways to of being a team player. Now here comes the questions that's on my mind. Q#1. Given that Atheon is a Vex, why cant he teleport? Q#2. Why cant the Relic holder gain shield energy from destroying an enemy? Q#3. Why are Hunter's specials useless in the Vault of Glass? Now for some questions about the Warlocks class. Q#1. Why doesn't the Voidwalker Bloom ability activate inside the Vault of Glass? Q#2. Why give the Sunsinger subclass a halfass version to the Bloom? (Such a waste smh!) How about an ability that causes damage to the enemy over time and can spread from enemy to enemy? And it shall be named Wildfire! It works just like Bloom for Voidwalker subclass. Q#3. Why can't we have sub-abilities to help be more supportive towards our fireteam? For instance, when your Firereborning yourself, you instantly reborn fallen teammates within a certain distance from you. Or, another sub-ability that can allow you to revive only one teammate instead of you. Or, here's another cool idea. Seeing as how we Warlocks and all. Warlocks can give allies Fireshield by Scorching allies with a melee attack. Q#4. In Voidwalker subclasses, why do we have to kill an enemy just to Life Drain or Life Steal?? Embrace the Void only work well with Surge, seeing as how we don't need to kill, just damage an enemy SMH! Q#5. I am a Warlock! Why is it that I don't feel like one? Q#6. Why does Blink describe itself as a method of teleportation and we can't teleport through walls or bosses? I have so much more to ask but I think everyone understands my frustration. Bungie please fix us Warlocks. If you need help, just ask. I have plenty of ideas to share. DarkmoonPharaoh signing off...!

I like it, now everyone in raid party stays alert and on their toes. Nobody is going to just sit in one spot and wait for a rinse and repeat cycle. Raid is more hectic which brings in a new fun factor to the experience. Ran it last night for the first time since patch, no wipes, but just the sense that communication was now even more important along with teamwork. Got the same ole crap at the end, shader/energy but even that being the case it had a different sense of accomplishment.
-
The random teleport doesn't bother me. It really only bothers people that aren't good enough to hold their own within a raid team. If you can't hold a relic and press the cleanse button every few seconds, or shoot at some floating things with a full clip (they don't even move), or stand on a platform for 10 seconds before getting high ground; you simply don't deserve the rewards of the raid. I do the raid a lot through the week, and I often invite people at the tower who don't have the Raider achievement so they can have the experience. It took us forty minutes yesterday with two complete newbies. If anyone is having issues post patch, it's either because you're not as good as you think, or your teammates are holding you back. Instead of crying about it, try to fix those issues first.

Fix the raid gear drop chance.. Sick of getting useless items and weapons that I have so many of.. Why would I need 6 chatterwhites or 4 found verdict or 3 hezen vengeance.. And why do they drop green engrams during a level 30 boss fight? I get lvl 18 armor for killing a lvl 30 goblin? Makes perfect sense.
-
I really don't mind the update, but I think some the glitches while running the raid should have been addressed first. I've encountered several issues, 1. Portal glitches out, can't get off of Mars or Venus. 2. No one can pick up the relic when ported by atheon. 3. During time is vengeance the "bubble" will not activate to protect. 4. Relic not working at all to cleanse during the atheon battle. I would think that the devs would clean these up before tweaking the so called exploits.

For me , this isn't a big deal the biggest deal for me would be: Mercury? Jupiter? Saturn? Uranus?(or leave that one out haha) Neptune? Pluto? Galaxies? Belts? Nebula's? the Story is nowhere to be found? what happened? the City beneath the tower? why is a Stranger's Rifle only a rare? at least have some hard as hell bounty-gathering-materials so we can upgrade it to at least Legendary???It is 1 of the best looking guns but oh so weak? game should have been called Mistery instead, so many stuff is missing...

1 ReplySo, in the upcoming DLC's Raid...about how long do you guys think we'll have to have fun while forming cohesive team-based strategies and successful tactics with each of our friends fulfilling their roles like a well-coordinated squad before Bungie is like: "NO UR NOT PLAYING IT RITE!" and does something else completely retarded to it?
-
-
Did you guys make it where only two people get teleported because that is simply annoying
-
It feels quite arbitrary at this point, doesn't it? This is the problem; Destiny took millions of players, threw them into an activity with no guidance, no guidelines, no clear objective and said to those players, "Forge a path." The initial reaction to this was overwhelmingly positive. Finally, an activity that takes off the training wheels. Then, the instant players begin doing things other than exactly what the dev team intended, the patches start coming in. You can't put a puzzle in front of someone and then complain that even though they finished the puzzle, you don't like the steps they took to complete it. Here's an idea for the next raid you can pass along to the dev team, DeeJ: In every encounter area place six 10 foot diameter circles on the ground. If every circle isn't occupied by a player at all times it will wipe the whole team. There you go. The team never has to worry about people playing the raid the "wrong" way ever again. Oh, maybe also randomly give each player a weapon from their vault and don't allow them to change it at any point during the raid. It will make it much more difficult. You're welcome.
