•
Posted by: alexanderjames I didn't scan with one of the program's you recommended on the first page because I don't have admin privlieges so I don't think I can download anything, I did use the software that's already on the computer (symantec antivirus) to do a quick scan and it came back with no threats found. I use IE by the way.
Well if you are able, see if you can update the symantec antivirus if you haven't. Also, because you have IE, go to Tools>Popup Blocker and make sure that it is active. Side Note: Symantec Antivirus (and most scanners for that matter) only block about 85% of all viruses, but the most common and destructive ones are included in that 85%.

 •
Posted by: alexanderjames I have a question: I have a computer here at work and occasionaly it get's pop-ups, and the funny thing about it is that they are related to sites I am on at the time or words that I enter on the keyboard when they appear. Like for example when I'm here on b.net a pop-up always appears saying that I have won a 360 elite or something like that. What do I have and is there a way I can isolate and delete whatever is causing this?
What Browser do you use

That's pretty unique that the popups have something to do with whatever you are currently viewing. IMPORTANT EDIT: Whatever you do, do not buy or take part in anything those popups offer you. Once they have your information (financially or otherwise) the torment will not end....for a while at least. I work at a computer shop and had a customer actually walk in and admit to purchasing "virus protection software"....twice. I advise looking at the OP and trying out one of the scanners that Anti Apple Kid suggested. Kaspersky is a good one to use IMO. [Edited on 11.16.2008 10:21 PM PST]

Also, what are the specs of your computer (proc speed, graphics card mem., etc.)? EDIT: Sorry for the triple post, it is inefficient to copy every single quote into one reply. If Youtube did cause the blue screen, I advise you upgrade your flash player if you have not done so.

 •
Posted by: xTRIGGER092x This is probably a dumb question, but the Java icon just appeared out of nowhere in my taskbar. Could I have gotten a virus or something? I'm extremely paranoid when it comes to malware and such. I only go on well-known and well-trusted sites, such as this site, Xbox.com, Youtube, and Amazon.
It is most likely a Java update. As long as it isn't trying to make you purchase anything, you will be OK. If it were a virus, your computer would be experiencing some strange, annoying, and often destructive side effects. Spyware and Adware just throw annoying and occasionally destructive things on your computer. If you truly think your computer is infected, I suggest you look at the OP and download one of the programs Anti Apple Kid recommended.

Because it is something that you would not typically replace part by part, I cannot recommend any user related action. If you put a new disk in and got the same error, then it is the console's fault. Check up on that warranty, you're probably gonna need it.
