Very noob question: Is RNG based on account or characters?

Meaning, is it the same across all of my characters or is it different for each character? I've got a 29 Warlock and Hunter which only need boots to ascend but I haven't gotten them once. I recently made a Titan and he got boots right way. What I'm wondering is, do my other two characters have less of a chance to get boots now since it dropped for my Titan or is that crazy talk?

  • RNG just means that a particular triggered event uses a dice roll to determine the outcome. It has nothing to do with anything else. For example, when you turn in a bounty an RNG event is triggered and there is an instantaneous dice roll that has 3% chance to give reward you an exotic bounty. There is nothing you can do to affect or improve RNG loot drops or anything else that is RNG as the system is currently understood.

  • If something is randomly selected, it means that the probability for that item is set, and the likelihood that you'll receive it is the same for each attempt. Character or account does not matter in such a case. Hope that helps!
