She had a valid opinion, but that still doesn't change the fact that her being a girl is irrelevant. And even if only two people replied to her topic if she hadn't added the part about her being a girl, it would still be a discussion. A small one, but still a discussion. So no, a topic doesn't need 500+ replies to be a discussion.

Any cheap trick is a valid one when you have to beat this ^ to post anything interesting. These forums are overrun by wanted ads, having any kind of intelligent discussion is becoming incredibly hard.

Naive? You're sad to even care whether she mentioned she was a girl or not. I don't care that she used her gender as a way to bring attention, wanted or unwanted, to a topic. And it shouldn't be the primary focus of discussion. But to focus on that is completely redundant and what is wrong with this community. Arguing and pointing out meaningless things instead of focusing on the messages OPs are trying to contribute, regardless of involving a simple gender distinction in the title.

In closing I'll make this a little clearer for you, women don't need to tell us they are women so they get responses, gamers are indifferent to your gender and that is the reality of equality, being a girl doesn't give you some cognitive advantage so don't pronounce it in the first sentence of your post. You want the post itself to be the discussion dude, great do all of us. Why are you too stubborn to understand being a woman and telling us as the first sentence was unnecessary.

Girls better know as grils, are still a minority in the gaming world and do attract attention because of that fact. In a few years, no one will care, today, people still do. This happens to be a minor advantage as well in more serious situations, like getting a job in a tech/science/computer related field. We should hope this discrepancy in numbers will fade as time goes by and things will even up. For now, being a girl who likes to shoot stuff or modding computers still surprises many. Sad but true.

Moreover If you aren't capable of understanding that adding female to the beginning of the post instantly derails the conversation then you're unequivocally ignorant. To illustrate I will encourage you to start a similar topic, capture its contention and make like arguments, but start the post heading with something like "Guy Gamer Explains" and see you will receive similar posts from people telling you they don't care if you're a guy and it's irrelevant to the topic you want to introduce. The additional attention guys are giving her for being a woman should come as no surprise. Saying it's about the topic and pronouncing a "key" difference in the argument is the height of hypocrisy.

I agree that some will derail the conversation due to the G factor, nevertheless, RGN is something I have an opinion on and by looking up the answers to OP, many do as well. Seems you're the one who cares the most about the mention of a girl in the room... Guy Gamer will not get attention. Girl Gamer will. So what?
