To all those complaining about males playing females...

I've seen threads of the like since I first went through the forums, and it seems like some people find it hard to understand that the reason behind it is that there is a possibility. It's as simple as this: If I can have a sandwich, why not? If I can have a coke, why not? If I can have both, why the -blam!- not? I'm really curious about why this disturbs people so much. Like, seriously. This is not a dating site, so don't expect a female avatar to be a female, and don't expect a male character to be a male. It just doesn't work like that and shouldn't ever work like that. Games are the worlds of possibilities. In a game, especially in the open ones with character creator, you can be whatever you want. And that's great. There is no need to make your in game avatar similar to you in any way. If you want to, you can, obviously, but there is no need for that. Lots of people play games to inmerse themselves in a totally different world than theirs. They don't want to be the rutine-absorbed mcdonalds worker, or the test-stressed student. They want to inmerse themselves in a different reality- and the best way to do that is to empathize with the character without feeling that you are the character. You know, like those paper things called books. That's one of various reasons. Some people find the male models of this game not really appealing. I have to agree, yet I love how my awoken looks. Some other people believe the tale of the smaller hit box. Others simply like better the female figure. And all of these reasons are equally valid. So, I'm really asking you: why do you feel so disturbed about males playing as females? You are free to answer in a respectful way. If you are going to: - Mess about their gender identity/expression in a harmful way - Say things like: "Cause all 'em wanna be trannies m8". You can say that you believe they feel like women in their innerself, but tranny is pretty much offensive. - And, in general, be rude Your comment will not be taken into account. Basically you can say whatever you want without being rude. Not that hard uh? SO: If you've read this far, thank you. If you are going to be rude, leave. If you are going to be nice, treat yourself with cute kitty pictures. Edit: I forgot to say this: There's those people that say "males should play as males. They have gender problems if they don't boohoo". Well then, following that rule humans should play as humans and as nothing else, if not they have species related problems. Yet, I see no one complaining about people playing as exos/awoken. Edit 2: When I said I wouldn't take rude comments I was not joking, I swear. Not by a second. Edit 3: Comments saying that suicide is tha fault of the one comitting it are counted as rude, and therefore I will not take them into account.

  • Ok, I'm a 19 yr old male, I play a female awoken hunter. I chose this for many reasons one of them being simply that I felt like it. Also, the customization options I felt were better and if anyone of my friends ever have an issue with it I'd tell em that why is it weird when a male plays as a female WHEN GIVEN THE CHOICE but in a game such as Metroid, its not a problem? I dont get it, its a game. Also there really shouldn't even be a difference culturally and socially between GENDERS. Sexes are biological of course but the gender roles between male, female, or other shouldn't matter both IRL or in a game. But yeah.

  • I've said it before and i'll say it again. My redhead pig-tailed hunter is the hottest chick in the game. I'd do me. The guys I play with all run females. We compete on making the most attractive characters. I think the younger players have more issues with it. Perhaps it a psychological post-pubescent fixation on masculinity that they are struggling with. My teen-aged son thinks we are all weird for using female characters. We just find it entertaining. Those that take issue with it will eventually get over it as they age.

  • Exo Male Titan, Human Female Hunter, Awoken Male Warlock My hunter is female and modeled after my wife. My girls helped pick out her style. I do the same in other games that give me a choice. I like showing my girls that I'm willing to play a woman avatar, just as they often have to play as a male avatar because there is no choice. Plus, she is a badass. Both my hunter and my wife.

    • I know some people do this in mmorpgs because the armor is usually cheaper.

      • I decided because with my experiences with any rpg, was that females always wore armor better. Awesome things would just not be there on the male models, however this game is not like that ( which is good)

      • I don't think people are complaining about it. They probably just want to understand. But, I could be wrong. Not too many people are willing to understand others these days.

          • I play female characters in this game because: a) I'm a dude in real life so why play as a dude in a game, when I can be a badass chick. b) The male models in Destiny are too bulky for my taste. The male Titan looks like a god damn Transformer.

              • I am a male and I don't like playing female toons. Just feels weird to me. But the argument of staring at the back of your toon, this game is primarily fps, just about the only third person is tower and vehicles, neither of which bug me much, not really standing still at all. Other games that are third person, like wow, I can see that argument, but if you're paying that much attention to your toon specifically, you aren't playing right brah.

                  • If someone's excuse is that they'd rather look at a female character all day, they need to go out and find some female friends.

                    • Simple answer from my end - I play a female character because my wife does all my character creation. She enjoys watching video games but not playing, so I let her make the characters she wants to see.

                      • It's your game so do with it whatever you like but I just see no appeal being an adult male playing as a female character If I have the option to be a male. I have no problems with female lead characters in gaming. I wish they actually would have made a Kill Bill or Columbiana game so I could have played as on of them but when choiced with being male or female I will always choose male. I think people just project their thought process and how they would think of themselves playing as a " girl " onto others when they see them take that role but since everyone is different that process does not work. I judge no side

                      • I play a female character for a few different reasons. Before I get into them, let me specify that I normally run a male based off a popular RP character I have as my main, with a near 1:1 ratio for Male to Female characters. Destiny is the first game I have a female character for my main, and that's for the few reasons I mentioned earlier but didn't specify. 1. I played a male in the Beta, and when the full game came out, I thought to myself "Well, I already made a male Hunter. -blam!- it, let's just make a female Awoken this time." 2. I draw creative inspiration for writing from characters I create, and females tend to work better because it's outside of what I normally experience in my life, being a guy and all. 3. The female models are just more attractive. (Give or take the customization choices for hair and whatnot. The female Awoken mohawk just doesn't look good to me.)

                      • We all know one thing, not everyone's reason will be the same. But it's simple, it's a RPG, as in role playing. Those that utilize the game will not understand why someone is playing a role that is not theirs per se. I happen to be one of these, I project myself through my character just for more fun. So from my perceptive, it's odd to project myself as a woman, when I'm not. I meet a female game character, but the voice associated with it is deep with a hint of gravel to it. Very strange, tends to ruin the fantasy of it all. Now that being just 1 side. The other side is that it's a video game and it's not that big a deal, anyone who is opposed to males playing as females, or vica versa, is just being silly and should be ignored. The world is a varied and multicultural place and most humans will always find a way to walk the line, and not be yoked. There's an indomitable freedom to the human spirit with a certain spark of revolution at its center. One that I hope never goes out...

                      • I find all the irritation about this topic incredibly amusing personally. I have never been a part of any other game where this was such an issue. My personal reasons for doing it in this game are simple: aesthetics and variety. I wanted to have another Warlock, but didn't really want to have a carbon copy of my first one, so I decided to make a female one to mix things up. I find it far easier to make a female character look good personally. My only guess as to why ppl have a problem with others who play as opposite genders is because it messes with their perception of who the person behind the avatar is. (This is only a guess, not what I believe to be truth).
