What if a "hard" patrol was added to the game?

Since I like to spend time just running around earth and Venus shooting everything in sight, I had a thought: What if there was a patrol world with enemies lvl 20+ and not the level players would be when the campaign brought them to said planet. This would probably encourage more people to play the patrol since there is now an added challenge to it. Another idea would be to increase the spawn rate of mini bosses. It sucks to grind out ~50 vandals just to find one reaver. What do you guys think? Edit: Thanks for the feedback! Some possible additions could include fighting off the Darkness, possibly on Vex controlled Mercury, as well as visual effects of a storm, rain and general darkness. Another thing as mentioned in the OP is a big increase in yellow health enemies, a lot of you agree with that part. Last, if rep earned was increased it would make leveling vanguard much easier. I will be posting this in the feedback forum so please visit the link and comment so that it will be noticed there! Keep the ideas rolling! Edit2: over 400 comments! Wow! Some more ideas are to add patrol gear, similar to raid gear that can bring you to lvl 30. Obviously it will be hard to get, but still attainable. Another point was raised that it would not require a whole lot of work on bungie's part since the map and enemies are just about ready. I wanna hear more ideas so we can make this happen!   • Its an interesting concept but the problem is that the game is server sided and ALL players from level 1-30 are in the same zones. The only exception is when players are in a mission, then they will get separated. Hard Patrol would be cool to see but difficult to see actually implemented.

  • I would like this very much. Would be cool if enemies would put bounties on guardians that dedicate time on exterminating set amount of enemies in an area or planet.

  • Awsome idea could still do the normal mode if you wanted aswell to pick up some quick items for an upgrade but that sounds great although some of the public events at that difficulty would need around 4 people

  • One neat addition I thought bungie could have added for a while now would be sparrow races. You could have the races be activated in a patrol mission, or have an impromptu one with your fire team. There's so much Bungie could do with that sort of game type and I just don't think there's enough utilization of the variety of vehicles in the game. I just love the feel of all the vehicles, and I think it's dumb that you can only use most of them in a story mission or within the crucible. I know this doesn't fit neatly with the topic of this forum, but OP's awesome ideas kind of spurred me to add what I thought would go great in patrols

  • Best idea I've heard in a while! And on hard patrols the enemies should drop the materials from that planet. (Fallen drop spin metal, vex drop spirit bloom, cabal drop relic iron, hive drop helium)

  • They should have the normal patrol mode and a seperate hard mode patrol. Low level players can't do the hard patrol mode, just like they can't do level 24 strikes. These hard mode patrols have stronger enemies, more majors/ultras, and possibly an increase in loot chests and farming materials. The increase in the loot and farming materials is offset by the number and difficulty of the enemies. For example, one area might spawn a loot chest that will very likely give you a decent amount of materials or a decent engram. However, you literally have to fight through an armada of enemies who are guarding it, as opposed to just chilling outside. Something along that line. Fireteams aren't mandatory to get through the enemies, but you'd be having a hell of a time by yourself. This could encourage more teamwork with other players. Having a group of random people on a patrol take out a massive group of fallen to get the loot chest just sounds awesome. Patrol mode should also see an increase in public events, a wider variety of them, and more mechanics. There should be weather added as well. Patrol modes should literally be something to do when you have nothing else to do, and be exciting at the same time. Add variety, add spice, add (optional) teamwork. Turn grinding into fun. Thoughts?

    • Honestly, most "what is the did..." Posts are garbage, but this one I can get behind. If there was a challenge for my level 28 character in patrols than that would probably be my favorite part of this game!

      I think I've suggested the same. Why can't we choose a difficulty for Patrols? The random players you'd see there would be the ones who chose the same difficulty. And if you're doing a story mission, for example with a difficulty rating of lvl28, the "patrol" areas outside of the mission areas would be hard ones automatically too. Also - once the DLC comes, make the new patrollable areas hard. Or at least harder. lvl24-26 or so. Maybe make one of them 28-30 for some of the players who like to be challenged in patrols as much as possible. Also pt.2 - unrelated, but let us choose a particular strike from the map and then choose the difficulty rating (and why not some modifiers too). The game would then count the possible rewards from the difficulty level + modifiers combined.

    • I don't really know why you cant choose to patrol at various levels just like you can choose to do story missions at certain levels. That or just phase us in with other patrolers of our same-ish level and make the enemies about that same-ish level.

    • I think a good idea would also be legendary patrol missions. Very hard and very difficult. Instead of scout this area. Go into an area and survive waves of fallen/other enemies coming at you. These would be rare, difficult and rather rewarding.

    • I agree with everything here, except patrol armor bringing you to level 30, Never in a million years could doing a patrol mission come close to the VoG and the RNG together. Good post though

    • Bring them up to mars difficulty would be fun, though to motivate me probably would need higher chance of loot, or maybe more resource per 'mining' spot. Some extra, more dynamic events would be fun as well, Vex launching full blown assaults on that cabal base (scraplands?), Hive pouring out of their holes in cosmodrome and moon, Fallen trying to kick vex off venus or vice versa. Dynamic weather events would be cool too, sandstorms, electrical storms, meteor shower for moon ( already see them hitiing beyond border of level why not within?, Torrential rain and vulcano eruptions on venus.
