Why do warlocks have longer melee range?

I'm trying to figure out what was the point of giving warlocks extra melee range. This may not seem like a big deal but it seems to effect alot of pvp encounters in this game the whole range punch shotgun thing. I mean what is going on? Why do warlocks need a range melee attack ? They already have alot of pvp advantages like teleporting, floating ,homing grenades, two grenades, spammable grenades during special, resurrection and dot damage. As a Titan who only gets a ground smash and a shoulder get shot gunned charge I would expect us to be king of up close encounters but i'm starting to find up close encounters go to the Warlock.

  • All of them are pretty balanced. The Warlock has a bit more range. Titans have a fast melee. Hunters have either a melee like Warlocks or a throwing knife. If there's any melee being superior to the others it's the throwing knife.

Your argument is only supported by warlocks using shotguns. Meaning the problem is not the melee. I use a warlock and a sniper and at all times am i at a cqc disadvantage. So I think you are way off. Sunsinger melee is nice but voidwalker is just dangerous. Titans one hit kill and hunters can put a couple shots into you and then throwing knife for a kill. Problem is most just try the knife or try the knife first. They are not unbalanced. I think they melee is ok but coupled with a shotgun and blink it becomes a crazy op setup. It's the combos you hate, not the melee. The hunter has the best range really.

Somebody is asking the right questions... How is it that the warlock has the best melee option in the game when the titan is supposed to be a close quarters class? If both a Titan and a warlock have low health and they both go to melee each other the warlock wins. The warlock's melee has incredible range and they barely need to lunge to hit the enemy. The titan would be dead before his fist can even reach the warlock's face. Not only that but since all characters can change their armor, recovery and agility stats. You can give a warlock a high armor rating and a shotgun and you have an equally (if not more) effective close quarters fighter than a Titan.

    • the way i see it is that when the Warlock uses High Five that it sends out a short range space magic force thing, which causes melee damage

    • Because their melee does less damage and isn't as fast. Titans > strongest melee Hunters > fastest melee Warlocks > distant melee and most fashionable class It all comes down to balance. We all need some edge over the others, and now we all have that.

      • Look at their animations. The titan (defender at least) gets a cross. The hunter isn't much closer out...where as the warlock actually punches straight out like a jab.

      • Titans are meant to be in your face, hence the considerably higher max armor stat bar. Ergo, titans need to be, as said before, in your face to use their OHK shoulder charge. Warlocks and hunters have ranged melees dues to their lower natural armor stat bars. It makes sense.

        • Every class has range, hunter and titan lunge at the target when you melee. The lunge is the same distance as the warlock melee.

        • Because Hunters have the widest super range, and Titans had the strongest melee. They had to give something special to the Warlock class to even it out between the three.

I think you have to play as a warlock. You have to try it and fight a titan, because dude you have NOOOO idea. (and secondly the technique is shotgun punch not punch shotgun, its quicker) Titan is godly, warlock is pissed on by the titan, those damn 1 shot shoulder slams hits that kill me, extra armor, you dont even die to a golden gun when you go to do the ground slam!. Your ability to take a shotgun full in the face and live! the only reason you are noticing our melee range is because your sponging our god damn shotguns your freak of nature tanky mo' Focka. and that was before the patch. look at the warlock super that you speak of radiance, i grow flames so everyone can see me, i can still be one shot by any other super (golden gun, blade dancer, titan smash), I get more grenades but have you tried the grenades for that class, giant suns people can see a mile off and avoid way before they take much damage or sticky grenades that have to hit some one to kill them, or the scatter grenade that never kill anything. and the grenades you claim home in it only properly works in pve, i throw at someone and it has to be bang on to stick, literately so many people dodge due to lag and so on its unbelievable. you think okay hes gonna die, nope he some how avoided the grenaid i throew at him point blank and still killed me. if you resurrect you cant have the strong over shield, and have a long period of vunerability before you can control the character. also have you tried warping? fine in big open spaces. when under fire trying to run away though and in tight confines, your just as likely to hit a wall or door frame, and fail to escape. and the titan has one of the highest jumps. i have titans on my radar on some maps and im thinking where the hell is this guy, as i forget to look a mile in the damn air. No until you try the warlock i think you're miss judging it. TL;DR - try it first, and it is balanced. titan = should barge, 1 shot punch hunter = throwing knife (x2 potentially) what would you do take away the only advantage a very marginal increase in range and still have us fight that?

Warlock melee range is longer than the Hunter's thrown knife? Ever heard of class diversity? Why should every class be the same? Get over it or roll a Lock ... or will that mess up your three of the same class on one account "exploit?"

            • Hunters have the same melee range. The only difference is that hunters lunge instead of remaining in their original position.
