Halo ce netcode

Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't the reason the net code in CE is the way it is because the game developers wanted to support dial up connections? If they wouldn't have done this, wouldn't the factor of leading your shot be eliminated. I'm not saying I can't lead, but going back and forth between PC and console is kind of frustrating. (friends wouldnt know a good game if they saw one)I'm not too sure how many people that play have dial up connections and if the population would suffer if they were gone. I'm just kind of thinking out loud...

 • Back when Halo PC was released there were many people who still had dial-up connections. I myself was one of them. Microsoft knew there would be a large market of PC gamers that would need to be able to play with a dial-up connection. They also knew that a lot of people would go to Halo PC when they couldn't use their broadband only Xbox Live service. It's annoying as hell, but I understand the reasons for it. There have been lots of players who have had dial-up over the years that have a hard time finding a good online gaming experience. Halo PC was definitely the best for us. If it weren't for Halo PC I would have never even experienced online multiplayer with Halo games until just one year ago. There are certain places that don't have dial-up even to this day. My family lived in one of those classic "Antique" Southern United States towns. One where there's only one traffic light and all it does is blink yellow. The only choices we had for Internet service were dial-up or satellite. Satellite was even worse for gaming... They should have eventually updated the net code, though. It would have made perfect sense to make Halo Custom Edition carry a netcode made for broadband connections. Though I did have Custom Edition, it did take at least 18 hours to download on my dial-up connection. It's hard to imagine that a large number of dial-up players were that dedicated to getting Custom Edition like I was. [Edited on 01.12.2012 8:17 PM PST]
