With that logic all futuristic scifi settings would have no use for bow/crossbow deaigns(just another way to propel a object) showed you another example yes outside of destiny cannon, but shows there are ways to bring them in. Second you said unlikely to use swords. if they add them in in pvp they might find other ways for pve besides missions.
