Hi,
I am running between the factions and trying to get an idea, what faction I should push, but I just can't get it.
There are obviously three "free" factions who do offer different stat combinations and it depends on your style of gaming, which one you want to join (New Monarchy - Intellect&Strength, Future War Cult - Intellect&Discipline and Dead Orbit - Discipline&Strength). Then there is the Vanguard and the Crucible. Obviously its PvE or PvP.
BUT... the free factions and the other two don't make a huge difference, e. g. FCW has a helmet 48INT + 44 DISC, Vanguard has a helmet 41INT + 51 DISC and Crucible has a helmet 43INT + 49 DISC. So what's the deal with those? Do those point differences of 5 points in one or another direction make a difference?
I always thought I will do INT and DIS, since I want fast Radiance and fast grenades, but now I realized I really do melee A LOT, so I need that strength, which concludes to STR and INT for me, which is either New Monarchy, Vanguard or Crucible.
I like PvP, so it's Crucible or New Monarchy and at this point, I have no idea.
I have the feeling, the Crucible offers more choice, so why should I do New Monarchy anyway, besides I really do not like the look of the faction represant.
I wanna build a sunsinger with focus on Radiance and Scorch.
What do you push? And why?

None of them. The best weapons and armour are exotics and raid items so it's completely pointless.
-
I don't understand why I should bother. I have legendaries and by the time I came to start thinking about a faction I already had tons of vanguard rep and marks. I don't see the point of these factions unless they offered side quests specific to their cause with rewards. It is the same as race and class. They should all have individual quests specific to their lore which teaches you about what it means to represent that race, class, faction. The factions are one aspect of this game which I have literally not even visited because I don't see the point. I don't know, maybe I'm missing something... Am I?

Best to pick one that has the gear you want first. get it to level 3 then just level up the others once you hit 3 as you get a legendary reward for doing so and im sure in future they will change/update the stock in the factions.

I push Dead Orbit for the shaders.
-
I went vanguard rank 3 for the shadow price and am now halfway to 3 with new monarchy so I can try out the Vanquisher. Even if you don't like crucible, you can always get crucible marks from turning in materials. That way you don't even have to do pvp. (Although I must admit I have no idea if you can get crucible reputation without playing it.)
-
i did VG to 2, for the pve helm. then NM to 2 for the int/str gear as well as the ar reload on arms. after that i went back to VG for weaps and a sparrow and have been lvling it, and ofc crucible, since.

as much as I want to run with Dead Orbit, their stuff is crucible only, which I absolutely freaking hate playing... I am a PvE guy, so Vanguard was my choice... but, I did manage to get a legendary Dead Orbit Rocket Launcher in a drop...:) it is pretty cool, and when you are scoped in at an enemy, it makes a cool locked on noise...:)

Edited by fUll951 : 10/16/2014 9:25:32 AMfwc. it's all about intellect and discipline but after i got rank 3, I did rank three on monarchy. and now I need to do dead orbit. Basically. I'm doing them all. I patrol farm rep. I'm not Vanguard rank 3 yet so I'm actually working on that one at the moment. honestly. the rewards you get from the post master for ranking up a faction are awesome, free and awesome.

Here's my thoughts. And they're based somewhat around a mixed play style. (Sorry it's fairly long) For starters it's not really PVE/PVP with vanguard being the only PVE group. Factions grow reputation from both vanguard and crucible rep. This is nice because if you play a mix of both it won't be splitting your rep between 2 groups. On the other hand you purchase from factions with crucible marks, so you'll either have to fight, or with resource trading you can get marks without ever going in the crucible. (I noticed some writing factions off for this, figured id point it out) Here's the things I tried to weigh out: ARMOR: -Leveling- you need light to level up. You'll spend a while at 24 if you don't start getting legendary gear. So unless you get a reputation to level 2 somewhere you're waiting for random drops. I found leveling a faction to be faster because I play half vanguard half crucible. -Weapon Boosts- see what gear is supported within the faction. I liked the multiple pieces that supported hand cannons from Dead orbit. -Attributes- power, intelligence, strength. What do you care for the most -Aesthetics- so functionally this doesn't matter, but it might sway you in the end. WEAPONS: -Types Offered-does the faction you're looking into have weapons you want? It seems almost deliberate that dead orbit had the most weapon boosts for the hand cannon, but none to buy, so this tip may contradict other factors. Vanguard and crucible have every weapon type to choose from (I think? Maybe even 2 of each type?) so I recommend considering if you should prioritize VG/C over a faction first. Maybe look into what people consider the best legendary of your favorite primary weapon and special weapon. If you REALLY like the perks and weapon features that might be your end goal and motivation for choosing a specific group. Personally I did dead orbit to lvl 3 (figured auto rifle and a decent shotgun would help pvp, plus great armor for me), now I'm finishing Vanguard to get the weapon variety and anytime I do Crucible I put on FWC because I want their stuff next. In the meantime you may buy xur's weapons/armor if you have strange coins or receive exotic bounties for even better stuff.

Well I plan to max out all factions due to the fact that my guardian is role-playing as a triple agent, master hitman, that's a highly sought after supportive tactician. If I had to rank them in order it would be... 1) FWC- I adore the cult's unorthodox color scheme, and the shrouded mysteries around then demand my attention 2) Dead Orbit- This faction speaks to the loner in me. I share Dead Orbit's concern regarding the nature of the traveler. Also I relish in the thought that DO could be viewed as a forum for introverts. 3) New Monarchy- The air of nobility is warm and inviting. I prefer this factions stats in regards to gear. Titan Lvl 25 Warlock Lvl 25 Hunter Lvl 12 (as of now)

Fk factions, I am a free lancer in seeking to get stuff from the vex
-
I picked Dead Orbit because I was tired of seeing Vanguard level up, and the others are a cult and a monarchy.
-
vanguard or FWC, vanguard gear has discipline and intellect and looks cool on a warlock, same with future war cult, AKA faster supers and grenades charges faster
-
Iron Banner
-
Cryptarch. All of my really good faction gear came from the cryptarch.
-
Vanguard and New Monarchy.
-
Vanguard because i want a random Shadow Price with extended mag on it
-
Team vex.

Edited by Boom Shalock: 10/16/2014 7:27:53 AMThank you for all the helpful answers so far. I will start - better say "change", since I started with FWC - to level up New Monarchy, for the following reasons: - First of all their armor fits my playstyle (Strength&Intelligence => Scorch&Radiance) - They offer weapons I like to play with (Auto&Scout Rifle and Shotgun) - I like the White&Red Keep em coming! P. S. 24 now and ready for Nightfall. ;-)

none, there is no reason to do so.. no backgroundstory inGame and no involvment in anything related to the plot/Stor or anything else
-
New monarchy is the only faction that offers fast reload for auto rifles which is good for people that play with ARs like myself ...dead orbit has a good chest piece that holds AR an fusion ammo which is good for pve, dead orbit has a shit AR an FWC doesn't have one ..monarchy does ,vanquisher is good for PvP ..I'd say monarchy is more suited for your play style
-
All of them. I'm at new monarchy and vanguard rank 4, fwc rank 3, dead orbit rank 2. I don't know if I'll bother with crucible. I'm hoping that someday there will be new stock that requires higher rank to buy.

New Monarchy, since they had armour with bonus to the weapon type I used. I suspect they will become irrelevant before I finish levelling them, but now that I have started I am going to level them up until I can get their gear, and the begin on a new faction. Ultimately I want to have access to all factions stuff.
