My thoughts on Raid Matchmaking.

There is something that makes no sense to me, and this is the fight against Matchmaking, I want to attempt to understand just why people are fighting against Matchmaking being in raids. Why does this make no sense at all? Read on.. Matchmaking as it currently exists is and always will be an optional feature, You do not have to use Matchmaking, you can simply create a full fire team with your friends and then hop in to a chosen playlist or activity and take Matchmaking completely out of the experience. If you opt in to Matchmaking you simply search a playlist/ activity with one less player or on your own and wait to be matched. Matchmaking does not effect you if you do not want it to effect you, it is a purely opt in feature that can simply be ignored if you want to ignore it. when the average player (The audience Bungie actually concentrates on) is trying to run the raid, they will not run it without a full party. Now if Matchmaking was in the raid, and this average player grabbed a full team of 6 and went in to the raid, Matchmaking would do absolutely nothing to that full team of 6. Because Matchmaking is a purely opt in feature and will have ZERO effect on people taking a fire team in to the raid, i have to wonder why are these people fighting against Matchmaking in the Raid? it literally makes no sense at all, i hope this community can help me understand.. "Join in Progress" this is something i can understand the worry for, But Join in Progress and Matchmaking are two completely separate features [Just take a look at Halo, It had matchmaking but you could never join a currently existing game] the worry for this is understandable because 1) You could get a random team mate join at the very end and get loot for zero work and 2) that random team mate could be somebody without a mic or somebody with a mic that just doesn't listen. But it IS a separate feature that i very highly doubt would be put in to the Raid if Matchmaking was put in to the Raid. [NOTE: If i see any childish, entitled, self riotous, bitchy, insulting, offensive, sexist, racist and any other nasty comments this community seems to be getting famous for then i will both block and report you, let's keep this discussion civil, hm?]

  • Simple. 1. The system as it stands right now, people who raid----even if they come together are NOT anonymous. So there is an accountability built into the process that is NOT there in the Crucible, Strikes and other areas in the game where there is matchmaking. 2. Even when everyone has a *basic* idea of what to do, it is often very difficult to get people organized, and to effectively allocate the resources your team has. Especially if the raid leader is unsure of him or herself...or there is no real leader that the group recognizes. As a result there can be many false starts, wipes, and other misadventure. My first time through the raid it took my group upwards of 6 hours...and probably about 3 dozen wipes. 3. Anyone who has played the strike list or the crucible is familiar with "randoms" quitting. The problem was SO bad in the Vanguard Tiger playlist that I basically stopped playing them. Beacuse people would start quitting after 2 or 3 wipes...and I got tired of investing 20 or 30 minutes only to be left the last person standing. Left by myself to face a tough part of the strike, because randoms got frustrated and quit. ....or got disconnected and kicked to orbit. 4. So I am VERY against the notion of matchmaking for raids. Because the anonymity of matchmaking brings out behaviors that are incompatible with finishing a raid. Plu---with the lockout---it would be almost impossible to rotate someone in. Because some people (like me) would be willing to repeat parts of the raid that they're locked out of getting loot from. Just for the practice and learning how to beat the raid in a better fashion. Others, are only going to be in it for the loot...and the moment they find themselves doing somethign-for-nothing...thy're going to be gone.
