My thoughts on Raid Matchmaking.

There is something that makes no sense to me, and this is the fight against Matchmaking, I want to attempt to understand just why people are fighting against Matchmaking being in raids. Why does this make no sense at all? Read on.. Matchmaking as it currently exists is and always will be an optional feature, You do not have to use Matchmaking, you can simply create a full fire team with your friends and then hop in to a chosen playlist or activity and take Matchmaking completely out of the experience. If you opt in to Matchmaking you simply search a playlist/ activity with one less player or on your own and wait to be matched. Matchmaking does not effect you if you do not want it to effect you, it is a purely opt in feature that can simply be ignored if you want to ignore it. when the average player (The audience Bungie actually concentrates on) is trying to run the raid, they will not run it without a full party. Now if Matchmaking was in the raid, and this average player grabbed a full team of 6 and went in to the raid, Matchmaking would do absolutely nothing to that full team of 6. Because Matchmaking is a purely opt in feature and will have ZERO effect on people taking a fire team in to the raid, i have to wonder why are these people fighting against Matchmaking in the Raid? it literally makes no sense at all, i hope this community can help me understand.. "Join in Progress" this is something i can understand the worry for, But Join in Progress and Matchmaking are two completely separate features [Just take a look at Halo, It had matchmaking but you could never join a currently existing game] the worry for this is understandable because 1) You could get a random team mate join at the very end and get loot for zero work and 2) that random team mate could be somebody without a mic or somebody with a mic that just doesn't listen. But it IS a separate feature that i very highly doubt would be put in to the Raid if Matchmaking was put in to the Raid. [NOTE: If i see any childish, entitled, self riotous, bitchy, insulting, offensive, sexist, racist and any other nasty comments this community seems to be getting famous for then i will both block and report you, let's keep this discussion civil, hm?]

  • The reason why people don't want raid matchmaking is because it kills the whole point of getting a group together and having days prepared prior by creating tactics and strategies. Putting matchmaking in it just would make it feel like any strike.

  • Simple. 1. The system as it stands right now, people who raid----even if they come together are NOT anonymous. So there is an accountability built into the process that is NOT there in the Crucible, Strikes and other areas in the game where there is matchmaking. 2. Even when everyone has a *basic* idea of what to do, it is often very difficult to get people organized, and to effectively allocate the resources your team has. Especially if the raid leader is unsure of him or herself...or there is no real leader that the group recognizes. As a result there can be many false starts, wipes, and other misadventure. My first time through the raid it took my group upwards of 6 hours...and probably about 3 dozen wipes. 3. Anyone who has played the strike list or the crucible is familiar with "randoms" quitting. The problem was SO bad in the Vanguard Tiger playlist that I basically stopped playing them. Beacuse people would start quitting after 2 or 3 wipes...and I got tired of investing 20 or 30 minutes only to be left the last person standing. Left by myself to face a tough part of the strike, because randoms got frustrated and quit. ....or got disconnected and kicked to orbit. 4. So I am VERY against the notion of matchmaking for raids. Because the anonymity of matchmaking brings out behaviors that are incompatible with finishing a raid. Plu---with the lockout---it would be almost impossible to rotate someone in. Because some people (like me) would be willing to repeat parts of the raid that they're locked out of getting loot from. Just for the practice and learning how to beat the raid in a better fashion. Others, are only going to be in it for the loot...and the moment they find themselves doing somethign-for-nothing...thy're going to be gone.

    • People just want something to complain about man. Bungie has common sense they'll add the matchmaking don't worry.

    • What you are saying that if you don't have a fireteam of 6 people for the raid then you will be matched with one or more other player(s). But that would take away the challenge to do a 3 man (or 4 or 5) raid for those who have already beaten it on normal and hard mode. If they add the option of matchmaking which stays as an option even if you start with only 5 or less people then i wouldn't bother but otherwise they would take something away from the game (the players) and that would pretty much suck. I understand that some people would like matchmaking for the raid but that would only function well if it stays optional also when you start with less than 6 people.

    • Every raid I've completed has been with random people. And its worked out fine. It takes a little longer but random raid groups work.

      • It only takes one bad egg to spoil the bunch. Had a guy who was progressively more drunk as the raid progressed. This made our raid go from 2 hours tops to close to five hours. The raid isn't hard but you have to understand that people that organize using destinylfg.net may be random but have the willpower to search for an organized group and are ready to preform. Using matchmaking creates a situation where you have potentially several bad eggs that invested 0 time to find their group. They queued then took a dump. The raid would wipe on first part and one guy would leave because they give 0 -blam!-s because they didn't even have to try and find a group of appropriately leveled and microphoned individuals who blocked out their night to get this done. The raid fail rate would be high. The partial completion rate would be high. The basic player expectation would be damaged. It takes literally 10 15 minutes of invested time to get a good group of random people you don't know with a significantly lower chance of bad eggs, incompetent leaders. You get a better player experience. They do need to create an internal lfg lfm system through bungie.net or in game at a tower terminal. We shouldn't need this service outsourced to public app makers and Web designers. We need matchmaking for heroic strikes and nightfall due to the significantly lower time investment and group size thigh they need to let us communicate wth microphone in these settings so we can help each other. Raids? No. Use a job board type search system. Better results for the minor footwork. Get 28 and normal vog will be an easy group to form.

      • It's something I will never wrap my head around.. It's this whole.. "I want to keep it out of the game for your own good" attitude.. I've heard the myriad of excuses and they hold no water. My favorite is " the raid is suppose to be difficult, finding a group of players is apart of the difficulty... I'm sorry but that excuse is crap

      • But u have a chance of getting people that have never even known this raid existed so they wouldn't know anything. And u have people that don't listen. No matchmaking
