The Ogre twitch

If you dont know what the ogre twitch is, it is jerking the analog stick quickly in a circular motion causing the screen to shake. if you have watched any MLG gameplay videos then you will know what im talking about, but the question/questions that i have is: Whats it for? Is it to warm up ur thumb? is habit? what do you think? [Edited on 03.04.2008 12:19 PM PST]

 • I'll admit that old xbox controllers would develope "drift"(haven't had 360 long enough to see if they do too), and that jiggling your stick(sounds ...wrong...doesn't it?) would temporarily relieve this drift. You're extending the life of a controller by putting up with that, but you're still not technically recalibrating it. I don't really mind the use of the word, as when you slap your TV or something similiar you're "recalibrating it", as in humor. But for whoever wanted to bring up the definiton, is why I bothered posting, anything lacking precision is not calibration. A quick jostle, or circular motion, is definately not precise.

Becomes a habit after a while.
wrong, it resets the auto-aim from the enemy's body to their head.
Way to make yourself look like an idiot man. You are also wrong. Dunno how many people need to post threads about this but it's annoying. It comes from Halo:CE when jiggling the analogue stick would recalibrate it. It has nothing to do with auto-aim.

 • I do it, but its more just a habit. Back in H1, the crosshair would get off a little bit, so twirling the stick around would recalibrate it. It really does nothing, it's just something I've gotten used to.

 • lol at the morons flaming me. What does my skill/stats an Halo 3 have to do with my knowledge? Here, I'll answer for you, NOTHING. I'm not a kid either. I've worked in electronics and programming for the last ten years, so don't give me tripe about not knowing what I'm talking about. You're not calibrating your sticks unless you're taking your controller apart and changing magnetisms or signal frequencies, etc. after first testing your equipment with o-scopes and DMM's and such. Like I said before, little kids are tempted to BS when they don't know what the hell is going on, thanks for proving my point. Note: If you're not a kid, but people think you are on forums because of the way you represent yourself, that's even worse.

 •
Posted by: MASTERBAITER8 so what exactly was it calibrating in halo: CE? you guys have said its the reason behind the twitch, but never said what it does. and if you have i missed it.
As I understand it, Halo 1's game mechanics had a tendency to let the reticle drift off to the right by a miniscule amount. However, with the lack of magnetism in H1, this little bit could be the difference between a three shot and death, so players started twitching because it could reset this drift if done at regular intervals.

 • Ok basically say on your joystick your moving slower than you are on the screen, the swivelling of the joystick was to keep your actions on the screen in sync with the movements on the joystick if you know what I mean. Like I said it didn't happen as much in H2 but did you ever notice at the start of the game your sensitivity seemed higher then it actually was? Flicking the joystick a few times would bring it down again. [Edited on 03.04.2008 1:15 PM PST]

 • i retracted my jerk comment, i apologize. now does the "designated accuracy" you speak of refer to the controller? the reticule on the screen? i know the definition of calibration but it still doesnt tell me how that refers to halo: CE specificially. ( i know im asking alot and probably sounding like an effin idiot, but i only ever played halo: CE by myself, i never had LAN parties or searched on the internet for stuff like that)

 • they show tehm in favs to get people more notified about the mlg as well as show some skills for once in favs and not just random clips of people getting splattered or of stupid glitches. I'm all up for that but bungie needs variety of vids to keep the whoel thing interesting

 •
Posted by: MASTERBAITER8
Posted by: FraGTaLiTee I give up.
if youre referring to my post, here's an example of what you said to do as you can see, it just gives definitions of calibration, tools to calibrate, etc. doesnt exactly tell you what you were calibrating in halo: CE by twisting the joysticks, jerk.
I wasn't referring to your post so you can take the jerk comment back. I attempted to stay on topic and explain twice in this thread but was ignored whilst others flamed MLG and the usual. People on this forum are really weird. Calibration; Calibration refers to the process of verification that an instrument is within its designated accuracy. ^^^ That is the definition and it makes sense to me. I can't think of another way to put it, maybe one of the weird people on this forum can. [Edited on 03.04.2008 1:04 PM PST]

Keeps thumbs and the Analog stick loose. Sometimes they have dead skin or dust accumulate in there, you probably have lots of dead skin all over your controller, look in the seams and around the bumpers.
every little kid? GTFO of here with your Lieutenant Grade 1 and .98 K/D spread.
WOW, how old are you like 12 or something ? WTF I don't see how because this kid is a grade 1 lieutenant, that he isn't entitled to his opinion. You have your say and he has his. Why, WHY do you think that because a player is below you in rank, it gives you the right to insult them when they make a post. Who the eff are you ?!?.......... if you don't agree with what he says, then give your reason as to why. Don't be a complete idiot and make a fool of yourself by dis-respecting them because of rank. Your a bully and out of order !!

 •
Posted by: YOU will be DOA
Posted by: l2and2makes5l I don't know why they call it Ogre twitch. Lots of people did that before MLG. I don't get why the Ogre twins are so popular. Why is that?
StK <-- plan and simple (I recalling watching all the vids and going to the tournaments, I can only recall them loosing 1 or 2 games total) AP took them down once, but then got shutout in the finals. Philly 02 <--That was my first ever Halo tournament, I played with Hawaiians:) Blackman was a good yes, but on 1vs1. No one could TOUCH Orge 1 and 2 in a 2vs2 match. They didn't even have to talk, they just stomped kids. They did play back in AGP <-- PRE-MLG
Great post dude, nice history references.

Unargueably the best 2v2 H1 players, and they were a slaying force in Halo 2. Ogre 2 is probably the best overall Halo 2 player.
Neat. I worded my post bad. I actually meant Why is it that they call it the Ogre twitch? I don't mind it's called that, I'm just wondering. I never actually knew who they were. I thought they were just another halo duo, but I googled, and they are pretty awesome.
