The Halo 3 Weapons do damage in Hit points. Most appear to do the same amount of damage to one's Shield points (Sp) as they do to one's Body points (Bp), but there are exceptions.
There are also a few weapons that are headshot capable, or rather have a headshot bonus. These weapons are the Magnum, Carbine, Battle Rifle, Sniper Rifle, and Beam Rifle. Any damage done to a Player's head hitbox after their shields are down, or rather there Shield points are equal to zero
(sp = 0), does infinite (∞) damage to the rest of the player's Hp. This could also be referred to as an automatic, or instant kill.
In Bungie's 2/08/08 Weekly Update, it was revealed that each Player has 115 Hit points- 70 in Shield and 45 in Body points. This allows one to easily conclude that the Overshield Powerup initially adds another 70 hp to a player's Shield points, with each additional layering of shield also being worth another 70 shield points. All of the following was compiled based on this information.
* Please note that all data is approximated and shows only the maximum damage one can inflict.

WOW Great work I never knew that the weapons have different damage points for beat downs
Posted by: Melted Snow How much shield does the Master Cheif have, and how much damage can he sustain with no shield?
I think the Master Chief in Campaign has the same amount of shields, but I swear he has higher damage resistance. It does of course depend on difficulty. I think Heroic is the closest to MM shields etc.

bumptacular :O

Spiker FTW! I've been using it more effectively in my recent games. This thread proves my suspicions.

Excellent. I did not even know that this topic had still been receiving traffic. Sadly, I had begun to move on, but it appears as if my curiosity is getting the better of me again! Special thanks to Acknown3 for his support.

A very nice thread. I have saved it for justice, perhaps it will appear in The Top Forum Topics section.

Genius! definitely a saved thread. i think you're on to a great development.

Cool. Now use the rate of fire and damage to figure out the DPS of each weapon.
Posted by: PSLxJESSEx Okay, so I was thinking about something. It takes 4 bursts to the head from the battle rifle to kill someone. If each burst does 18.0 dmg that means our total hitpoints is only 72, or the BR does more damage that 6.0 per individual shot. (18*4=72) Maybe I'm missing something?
Headshots are an instant kill. You forgot it takes around 7 body shots to kill with the BR.
Posted by: iIXIi Onslaught
Posted by: SuperDeathCobra I have been using the Carbine over the BR the last few games.... this post backs ups my suspicions.
if u lead your shots, the BR STILL over powers the carbine.
If you lead your shots and make every hit with the Carbine. The Carbines rapid firing ability allows for quicker kills by half a second or so.

This doesn't really change how I play, though. >_> I still know which weapons do what in-game, no matter how much I see the numbers on paper.
-
Cool, like to know how much a Tank Shot or Hornet Bullet does.
-
AR should do 5 damage a bullet to counter it's massive ROF and the melee system allowing a skilled BR user to kill it close range. It should also be more accurate so you have to actually aim with it. [Edited on 04.22.2008 8:34 PM PDT]
