I'm confused, this post seems to lose it's point halfway through. Also I have seen little to none of this on Destiny. Sure you have the "Dancing behind you!" shit, but to be fair people do that to male guardians, female guardians, NPC's....... I don't get the point of this post at all to be completely honest with you. Maybe in Call of Duty or halo, or battlefield.... Pretty much any game with a public open chat feature, but honestly not much in destiny. I feel like this is just preaching to preach.

  • This might have been a carpet bombing, with the certainty that it speaks to the gaming community as a whole. The fact that the most often reason I've seen in replies for it not happening in Destiny is, essentially, because people don't have the option to speak to eachother... Well that doesn't mean it's not there then, does it? Doesn't mean they wouldn't. Just means they can't. And Bungie not giving open chat features, with people constantly delivering the feedback that it should be there... Sort of conflicts with this assertion that the limited chat protects from this kind of thing. Understand that design decisions for this game were made in reflection of the fact that gaming communities can be (and almost always are) extremely toxic and hostile. Especially to those groups among said community viewed as minorities (women/anyone not white/homosexuals). This isn't something made up. AAA developers know about it, and structure some parts of their game experience around it. So lets talk about it.

  • At the same time, and I can respect what you're saying, you are kind of pigeonholing a problem that isn't just female gamers being targeted. It's like that whole domestic violence discussion that started up after the ray rice incident. You have people bashing EVERYONE and sure women tend to get harassed in a sexual nature but you have gay bashing, homophobic slurs, racial slurs, hate speech, everything. Honestly, and this is going to make me seem like a cruel asshole, but that is why there is a mute feature. For ignorant cruel assholes who don't know how to keep their bigoted views out of the public view and tend to say WAY TOO MUCH shit. The best part about the internet is being able to hit the mute/ignore button on ignorance. If only the real world had that. It doesn't fall to the developer to handle ignorance, and it sure as hell isn't only limited to female gamers. So honestly, again, the whole post comes of as preaching to preach. It comes off like you are talking down to anyone who is a male and plays games. Like you are some high and mighty overlord of acceptance. Male gamers aren't all mouth breathing sexist racists. It gets back to that whole ugly gamergate situation. Also I am rather sick of that "Anyone not white" horseshit. You know how many times I'm called a cracker or a racist once someone realizes I am white in a lobby? A lot. I am sick of being lumped into the vocal assholes who also happen to be the same race as myself.

You're sick of being lumped in, and you want them to just stop saying it right? Because it isn't true, and you shouldn't have to hear that just because you're white. ---and it shouldn't fall to the developer to slay ignorance. But it has grown to a volume that, for the sake of members of their communities, developers are having to do that. It's honestly a loud rebuke to the culture among gamers that limiting chat features would even LOOK like something that would increase quality of living for people.

  • No because preaching equality out of the hole in your head while you condemn an entire group of people as a whole as if they are all doing it out of the hole in your backside makes you look like a fool. You come in here calling for harassment of women in gaming to stop, and make a call to ALL MALE GAMERS as if we are all responsible for it and are all doing it makes you look like a bit of a hypocrite. I wasn't saying that it looked like it was made for that, I was saying the shit rarely goes down on Destiny because for the most part you can't talk to anyone. The problem is everyone seems to think hate and bigotry is limited to woman and others in gaming, when really gaming is just a competition type atmosphere. Competition breads ugliness. Visit any children's sporting event and you will see that. No matter how loud you get about how bad it is, the other side will ALWAYS be there and always try to drown you out. It's life. If you can't deal with it then it sucks for you but unfortunately that is the world we live in.
