The problem is definitely not a gender thing. It's the fact that many gamers think they are God's gift to CoD/Halo/Destiny/Mario Kart and ANYONE that wrecks them gets crap for it. I have had male and female gamers accuse/report me and my friends of using mods on Ghosts even though there are none on PS4 as the spawn system is incredibly predictable. What you post about how there's gender inequality is simply pandering to the feminist crowd creating a double standard where female gamers are immune to ANY criticism and flak while male gamers are free to get shat on. Simply put, everyone is entitled to a positive experience regardless of gender. Threads like this will only make the problem worse as it creates a situation where its us vs. them. If someone doesn't follow instructions and screws a team over repeatedly during a Raid, it's going to be frustrating regardless whether its a male or female player. I am sure there are some idiots that treat women like garbage. But do not generalize that most guys are like that because we are not. Many of us grew up with Nintendo and have progressed to having careers and families of our own and are MATURE enough to treat fellow gamers with respect regardless of them having a penis or not. My rule of thumb, if you're good, you're good regardless of gender.

  • A solid reply. Was the generalization a bit much? Probably. Definitely. I also put at the end that the rest of us see that behavior and laugh. I don't think that talking about it makes the situation worse---I think saying nothing and pretending nothing is happening while some members of the community are made to feel like they have no right to be here is wrong. We may just disagree on this. This post isn't for the ones who are mature, and treat all gamers well. This isn't even for the ones who talk shit on the person screwing up---IF what they talk shit about is how bad that person is. Because come on, if you suck you suck. I'll go in on someone who's terrible too. I will not call them a -blam!-. I will not call them a racial slur. I will not refer to their gender. Because that has nothing to do with it. And it isn't okay. ...lol you can ask my fiance [Sol Fox 631 on XBL], I'll speak up to anyone who isn't pulling their weight. I don't care what you are. But being a dumbass and screwing up simply has nothing to do with anything but the game and your decision making/capabilities. Women should not be exempt from criticism. Women should not be criticized for being women.

I appreciate your response and judging from some of the feedback from your thread, you may have a struck a nerve with some of the posters. Women comprise of roughly half of the gaming community. Given that, the "I'm a girl gamer, looking for friends", "girls stick together", "tired of having no invites b/c I'm a girl" threads are getting tiresome and reek of attention seeking. It harbors an environment where it creates the appearance that all guy gamers are sexist and despise female gamers for the reason they are female when most of the time that is not the case. That's fine and all; but when people start threads like "looking for party members, must have a 2.0+ k/d" or "looking for GIRL-only group", you will see some flaming. Can you imagine the crap if someone posted a thread looking for a white male only clan? The human rights lawyers will have a field day yet someone in a public forum asks to only play specifically with females only while bashing male gamers is politically correct. Whenever people start exempting groups of people in a public domain, people are going to share their opinion on the matter. If girls are not comfortable playing with a group of guys, we accept that. Just don't take offense if a group of guys doesn't feel comfortable having a girl in their group as some people are more comfortable with their own gender (for whatever reason). Definitely not flaming you, I respect your opinion; but sharing my views on this topic.

  • Thanks man. This is what I hoped for, and generally what I've gotten---conversation on the topic. And some damn good points. The perceived majority can often be treated like shit with no consequences, no? And this---I disclose purely in context---comes from a black guy. For some reason it's cool to kick around white men in jokes, but if a white man says anything about anyone else it's the end of the world. I see it and, in other places I've posted, I've gone in hard on that ridiculous bullshit. In short I agree on your points. Women gamers excluding in response to being excluded does the opposite of help, and creates more animosity. Not a good way to win point that requires persuasion, setting the other side up to make valid points of their own...
