Well LGG, the sad thing is that it is not often to randomly run into a girl gamer and usually if there are other random guys, the majority of them act like complete morons and say the nonsense Ricochet is talking about. That is the reason it would appear the majority are that way. Its perception. It may very well not be reality, but sometimes its hard to believe otherwise. Myself I enjoy playing with girl gamers because they don't usually act like complete idiots.

Though I seriously doubt that you care, because you don't seem like the type of person to care about a reasonable conversation---to be fair to all sides, I need to note that in replies a number of women have come forward and voiced that they HAVEN'T experienced this. Just by counting reactions here, it's just under half. This is by no means an exhaustive polling. But I'm obligated to note to you that you may have some ground to stand on despite refusing to read the whole post. If we assume (incorrectly, but it's just a thought experiment) that the 40% here saying they've had no problem applies to the whole community, the 60% who have would still place the problem in the majority. But when someone says majority (as I did) they tend to mean... 85-100%. And that simply isn't the case. So you're not interested in conversation, but I am, and I'll concede a point when it's proven valid. Majority, but not VAST majority, and that's an important distinction to make. It's not as bad as it looks.

Ultimately the game industry is dominated by a very young male demographic. Pre-teen and teenage boys are typically immature, particularly when it comes to the opposite sex. Not all, certainly, but most. I'd even argue the college age guys can be just as bad at times. Most men worth their salt don't give a flying -blam!- if they are playing with a guy or girl. On the other side of the coin, there are plenty of "girl gamers" who use the fact that they have a vagina as some kind of badge to stand out, to act like they are a special snowflake cause they are *gasp*! a gamerz gurl! Again, this is due to immaturity in my opinion. I'm not saying there isn't a bias against women as a whole in the industry, but it is quickly fading. The gamers that are loud and obnoxious simply need to grow up. I have no bias against gender or sexual orientation in who I play with. If I have any bias at all, it is to avoid younger gamers. There are polite and respectful ones, but in general teenagers are just little shit heads, and Bungie games have always attracted a large young and immature fanbase. The Halo fanbase was/is no different.

Thanks for saying not all, I'm 13 yet I can tell you now I'm not immature. I must agree I find it stupid that people get stuck up and try to antagonize girl gamers, usually yes it is a teen or younger kid. I admit your entirely right a majority of the idiotic and incompetent players are teens and little kids, but some of us are very well mannered and enjoy playing with girls but don't treat them specially their just another gamer; and it's dumb when girls try to blatantly boast and throw around that they have a vagina. Those types of girls I will agree I will not play with and that's not being sexist it's just not wanting to play with immature people.

You do realise that even I'd you got a correct percentage of women affected by online grief that in no way gives you the percentage of men giving it? You also seem to ignore the fact that pretty much everyone online has to deal with gobby prats. When gobbling at women they use sexist language to troll them when gobbling at blokes they use other language. You say you will concede a point when it's proven valid but expect us to accept your lopsided poll and rant as a valid point without you showing anything?

I've spoken on the use of 'fag' and other homophobic verbiage, and racial slurs, and now women. The fact that I'm attacking in sections is that there is a 'core' population, who can pass as 'normal' (if you're white, male, and heterosexual) who doesn't have to deal with hearing this directed at them. The fact that this population is predominant is less and less because they're the only ones who play, and more and more because they're pushing everyone else out. And I'm obligated to note here that for some reason it's okay for people to have to hear that[i] it's bad to be a woman/colored/gay[/i] all the time, but when I throw up a post on the forums saying that it's bad to behave that way then[i] there's a problem and needs a sweeping university study in order to be worth voicing[/i]. That isn't the behavior of an inclusive community. And so long as it continues to happen, people will (occasionally) say something about it. Good news for you is... You can just ignore me. I'm not the majority, and most who are displeased with it are either quiet or would rather not deal with the backlash.

You still have yet to show that it's the majority of the community that act this way and not kids and trolls. Everyone online has to deal with griefers and idiots there is a number of ways to deal with them by blocking or muting them or just flat out ignoring them. If something as inane as idiots spouting garbage online is enough to make people leave then they are probably best off not being online till they grow a thicker skin

But it's not targeted at everyone. That's what I think is misunderstood. First: I agree with you that I can't prove majority. I have to concede that. I don't want to, but I literally cannot prove it. So... lol point. ---the thicker skin thing? Absurd. There are populations who benefit from being immune to 'needing a thicker skin'. If you're not gay, all of the use of 'fag' does nothing to you. If you're not a woman, the bashing does nothing to you. If you're not...well anything but white...the racial slurs do nothing to you. If none of the commonly used insults speak to a group or stereotype of a group that you are a part of, [i]then you don't have a clue how thick of a skin it would take to endure that.[/i] And why would it be okay that some people just have to be tougher to be allowed in?

No one is immune from needing a thicker skin in every area of their life, the ones you think are more than likely are just those that grew up when they became adults and realised that for the most part other peoples opinions are worthless . I got bullied a huge amount at school for example for being a tall fatso with glasses that was smart and nerdy and crap at footy. The world isnt a place that stops just because someone got their feelings hurt and nor should it be so why should the internet be any different? There will always be trolls online and they wont pay any attention to threads such as this other than to feel satisfaction at their job being well done. Hell what you are basically doing in your posts is saying if you are white straight and male kindly shut up and speak only in the manner you are allowed to by anyone that may find what you say offensive and quite frankly that is ridiculous. If someone is misandrist, misogynist, homophobic, heterophobic, racist against any colour skin including white or anything else then quite honestly they have the right to be and to speak their mind about it. I don't agree with any of those positions at all but that doesn't mean I get to tell those people to shut up and go away because once you make free speech only apply to nice speech then it isn't free anymore. So if someone wants to be an idiot and spout off that a woman should be in the kitchen then I will defend their right to do so. I will also then exercise my right to call them a sexist idiot and potentially block them (They have the right to say what they want not the right to have everyone be forced to listen to them). People shouldnt be treat with kid gloves and if they are gay, female or the current group that it is seen as perfectly fine to slag off with impunity - white straight men they should ignore people or answer them back as they see fit or simply leave the area, unless they own/run the area they don't get the right to tell those people to leave. The people being spoken to are after all for the most part adults, maybe they should grow the hell up and stop letting words upset them so much especially when it is highly likely that its a vocal minority that are doing it and most white straight men are just getting n with playing the fecking game
