For those who don't know, how do the different types of shields change your approach to killing them? Is one weapon/tactic better against one shield type? I am just curious to know how the knowledge of what type of shield they have can help me. (not a burn bud, really want to know).

  • As a general rule, weapons do damage to shields first, and then to enemy health. Enemies might also have different shield types to the best types to hurt them. So for example: a Hive enemy may have an Arc or Void shield, when a Solar weapon is the most effective type against their health. Usually means a bit of weapon switching, good timing and teamwork.

Interesting...drop the shield with one type of weapon...and if you have time, switch it up to kill them off.

Damage types has 0 effect on health. The only thing damage types effect is the shields or an overall damage boost to an element type due to a weekly modifier. That's why you will we blue numbers when hitting an arc shield with arc damage but white when you get to the health.

  • Xanaten is accurate. Rather than your typical rock paper scissors advantage system this game uses a straight up system. If their shield is solar you should use solar damage to take it out. Arc and Void are the same as well, use the same type as the shield to take it out. This is especially important in Nightfall where damage to shields are drastically reduced if the element of damage is not that of the shield. Basically in nightfall you need to use the right damage type on their shields or you will get "Resisted" which means your doing minimal damage to them due to reductions(wrong element, level difference, etc.)

  • Your special and heavy weapons have damage types (solar, arc & void). Eg. a weapons that does solar damage is more effective against an enemie who has a solar type shield (eg. solar shield = yellow shields like the wizards have).

Great! Now I am kicking myself for dismanteling all the weapons...does this mean I should maintain one from each damage type?

  • I keep a sniper of each type but that's the only one. Could do fusion rifles too of you like using them a lot. But a sniper for whatever shield you are likely to encounter most in an event is very useful. Saves time and ammo.

  • Good thought. Will give this a go.
