I think the best, long-term solution would be to have separate particle effects for each shield: The current one stays with void. Arc shields get actual lightning, and Solar gets a firey effect. That way they could be any color and still be recognizable as separate shields.
Hopefully, Bungie will roll this and other "quality of life" improvements into a patch within the first year.

This. This makes the most sense to me. Change the aura animation of the shield to better match the element and then it won't matter if you can see the color correctly or not. You'll just know what it is.

Some versions of color blindness lower your ability to see red light (such as what what a monitor or TV emmits) so having orangish or red auras would be difficult to see. For instance, I have a hard time seeing red lights on traffic signals at all until I get close to the intersection. If I don't see any lights on then I assume its red and slow down. The red light on a traffic signal is normally brighter and more vibrant to those with normal color vision. Different particle effects would be useful and cool in general, but the icon idea is generally the common and preffered approach when making things like this accessable for color vision problems.

Makes sense I guess. I was just thinking, you don't get to see the name and health bar of an enemy unless your reticle is on them and even then, you need to be looking at their head. And if they're moving a lot, it can be hard to see what the bar says. In the case of an icon next to the name to denote element type of the shield, it can be difficult and take time to figure out what the icon is. On the other hand, my thought was that you can see at a glance what the type is based on the particle effects of the shield for quicker identification. However, not knowing much about color-blindness, I can see how that suggestion might not work as effectively as I first thought. Thanks for the feedback.
