Unless you spend hours a day farming legendaries and exotics. Of course the gear isn't better than the level 30 gear you already have. Why would it be? Bungie wouldn't make a php event that gives you stuff better than end game gear. My guess is that the idea behind the events is an alternative way for players to get decent gear without having to depend on RNG. It's not designed for the players who maxed out their game in a month. So if you're the one complaining about iron banner being pointless or useless, it's because you ruined it for yourself. Congratulations.

3 RepliesI see it's useful because it's just an fps mode. You don't need to be rewarded for everything you do. I played iron banner just to have fun with it.

2 RepliesThe only usefulness I see of the iron banner is that the gear cost only 10 Marks, so if you can get to Rank 3 (Which I will DEFF not in a week since I have a job, school and a social life) you can purchase a shitload of gear for those splendid Shawds. Other than that, it's all vanity.

Edited by OldboyVicious: 10/7/2014 11:47:02 PMI'll be honest, I expected more of a long - game with Destiny. With level 30 being the highest level, I expected the most hard core players to max out in 4-5 months if not longer. I expected a much longer and slower progression that was on a more steady linear line instead of a sharp upswing when you get lucky RNG. I was expecting legendaries to be super rare, getting one in a month was something I would've considered lucky. Exotics were something I thought you would only get after tons of time invested into the game, or after completing the absolute most elite of activities. The endgame came a hell of a lot quicker for me than I expected, and I assume that there are others, like me, who expected that to be level 28-30 so soon would be impossible. What I expected was to level up from 20 to 21 in a week or so, and to get from 28-29 taking a month or more and 29-30 taking a couple months. I played a lot and my enthusiasm carried me through now, & I don't think I ruined it for myself, I rather think that Bungie made a game that a few people completed within a few weeks. And by completed I mean played every activity, including hard mode raiding and reaching the max level. For someone that is level 30, collecting different unique gear is probably the only thing left of interest. Anything with a different looking skin or a different feel from what we have already seen is sadly scarce. So if getting a different looking legendary with slightly different attributes will take me down a level or two until I level it back up, so be it. I enjoy playing the game and I look forward to future Destiny when more and more items have been added so that there is a decent variety and character builds will end up being truly unique. So getting iron banner gear, yes please.

25 RepliesThe only benefit to iron banner is the crappy purples that can break down into shards. Even then, if you're fully geared at 29/30, it becomes even more useless. The only plus side, as minimal as it is, is probably the paint jobs, and that's it.

2 RepliesOnly playing Iron banner for the Shaders, emblems and the cloak. After that im done.

Even if the the gear is just okay, I'm still gonna try so I get a Space Bus! Also I don't have a legendary hand cannon yet so temur's lash looks pretty good.
-
2 RepliesI want the legendary ship"birth of history"
-
the iron banner has items and shaders that may be specific to the game type, rng or not.

12 RepliesI personally believe the entire rep, marks, and loot system has ruined the game. "We are Bungie. We are going to decrease the amount of legendaries you get to be 1 in every 10 days. Also, we are going to limit the amount of marks you can earn every week so that if you do happen to get a legendary peice, you can't upgrade it because you dont have enough shards from breaking down items bought with the marks you don't have. You see, that makes sense when you don't think about it."

Its not that theres nothing betterthan the 30 gear, its that theres nothing better than the legendarys i got when i farmed to rank 2 in vanguard, same armor, so for a lvl 30 it would be a down grade to get that. Theres nothing special about the event, gear doesnt play into effect (if it does its a very small margin) saw a lvl 5 stomping faces today, was great to watch.

4 RepliesEdited by U Go 6 FT BeLOW: 10/7/2014 1:10:54 PMheres my beef...you need a CRAP LOAD of shards just to upgrade it, alot of people are already mostly invested into other gear WITH THE SAME STATS...so why would they waste their time getting different LOOKING armor with a few different perks just to have to go back through and re-upgrade all the stats...this makes no -blam!-ing sense..*scratches head* If you already have maxed out end game gear its BECAUSE BUNGIE'S CONTENT WAS THAT SHALLOW...not because we ruined it for ourselves playing the -blam!-ing game that was knee deep shallow you idiot, these events are -blam!-ing gimmicks. -blam!- the iron banner.
-
1 ReplyIts not better than any gear people have, you don't have to have farmed to notice nearly everyone is past lvl 25 by now rendering all these things useless.
-
Oh! Yay... another "alternative" PVP event so they don't actually have to add anything to PVE. It actually takes the focus away from it. Brilliant. >_>
-
I want the shader lol
-
1 ReplyThe way I see this (lvl 29 Warlock with Raid Armour nearly 30) is the Events like Iron Banner are for people that want an alternative way of doing things, yes you cant get lvl 30 with them but I have to say them shaders, emblems and class items look really nice. Atleast it will show you participated in the Event rather than get nothing. Ill keep an armour set in my bank for levelling other characters. See you in the Banner!

I'm not playing for the gear, per se. I just want the shaders & hunter cloak.

the idea behind the events is an alternative way for players to get decent gear without having to depend on RNG
Without having to depend on rng? Hmmm... *does best in game, gets nothing* Meanwhile... Last and 4th place gets da loots with 4th getting a good ol fashioned legendary engram

27 RepliesExcept that it is actually broken and there is no level advantage
-
1 ReplyDo you get any rewards after a iron banner like a regular crucible match?
-
2 RepliesI have to disagree. This isn't just a problem for players who have grinded to level 30 already. It also affects a large majority of players who are plateaued outside of the raid as a result of queens wrath gear that made legendaries easily accessible. These players already have the highest end gear outside of the raids and their only incentive to progress is through repeatedly running VoG. The issue isn't that iron banner gear should be better, it's that raid gear should be the same light level as other gear and simply provide different upgrade/build modifiers. I provided a more thorough piece on this issue here: https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/71775220/0/0

Exactly, I am level 21 and enjoying Iron Banner a lot!

4 RepliesSo youre basicly saying that guys in the low 20s need to beat level 28-30 in pvp and do bounties that most would deem hard/insane so that they could gear up? makes total sense dude.
