Beneath Venus the Vex have constructed a massive structure that is acting as a meeting point of past, present and future. Their long-term goal is to basically unchain themselves from the constraints of a physical reality and turn themselves into a sort of epistomological computer virus in the very fabric of reality, incorporating the very IDEA of themselves into the fundamental laws of the universe. Because in this space, reality and time are starting to be altered, Oracles and Gorgons are basically quantum supercomputers that calculate reality and utilize a weaponized ontology to determine what is and is not real. This is why a Gorgon can look at you and kill you, because it simply unwrites you from existence. Oracles make changes and revisions to reality, and the Templar/Aetheon processes these calculations into existence.
The relic is the last, dying, desperate act of Kabr, a guardian who managed to send word that this was happening. He basically killed a Gorgon himself and hammered its corpse into a vessel for the Light, turning it into a shield that maintains a small space of stable reality around it. Throughout the raid, the Vex are constantly trying to separate you from it, throwing it into the past or future where it can't be used against them. All the guns and armor you find in the raid are the remnants of Kabr's failed raid and will give further info about their wielders and the events of the raid itself. In fact, some of the general exotics in the game once belonged to friends of Kabr too. The Super Good Advice machine gun is one such example but comes from the exotic bounties. This was crafted by a hunter named Pahanin who passed Kabr's warning about the Vault from Venus. After witnessing what happened to Kabr he became deathly afraid of being alone; he reckoned that he could only continue existing as long as someone was able to perceive him. So, to ensure that a mind could perceive him at all times he used an AI gun.

1 ReplyI want to be a gorgon now. My 7th grade English teacher would be my first victim. Then again would she be my first victim if she never existed in the first place? Who was I talking about again?
-
13 RepliesHere's the thing though. He says he manages to get into the Vault by himself but he was not alone. How the hell is this even possible? You know the mission structure at the beginning. There needs to be multiple bodies present in order to open the gate, and I highly doubt he was able to just convince some Goblins and Minotaurs to stand there while the gate opened for him. The "lore" about Kabr literally contradicts the gameplay.
-
41 RepliesMy question is, who helped Kabr get in the vault because on the grimoire card Kabr says "No one can open the vault alone. I opened the vault. There was no-one with me but I was not alone." O.o

Bump!

Bumped so that I can check this again after work.

6 RepliesEdited by Trap_Mack: 10/6/2014 7:07:24 PMWhy couldn't we play as an old legendary guardian of each class in the campaign??? Along side of having our own guardian to make legendary. It would give us the story of how they became legendary, first-hand.

OP came to spread lore... OP unknowingly started a flame war...

13 RepliesSomething that is really crazy from the Grimoire cards.
The Vex create alts of people and run simulations on the alts, but the alts are so real that there is no distinguishing reality from the simulation.
3 RepliesEdited by Dizman7: 10/29/2014 2:44:04 PMThat's all from several Grimoire cards actually, with a couple of lines add. Granted presented better here as one big thing, versus scattered across many cards in random order. The part that doesn't make sense to me is that there were not guardians till well after the "collapse" of civilization, yet the info Dinkledork pulls from The Archive missions, which is old Golden Age info, mentions the VoG. So the VoG existed hundreds of years ago during the good times of humanity, yet this story about Kabr the guardian makes it sound like he had to quickly warn others about it....about something that's been around for hundreds of years. Just doesn't quite make sense to me. Oh Bungie, will you ever get this mess sorted out?

It's things like this that amaze me how destiny could have such intricate, deep, and truly fascinating lore, yet what we actually got in the game was so lacking, basic, confusing, and weak that it isn't even a bad story, just not a story at all.

2 RepliesEdited by Mackie: 10/6/2014 4:04:24 AMThis game has a very deep, rich story but it's just not manifested into the game itself. Disappointing.

3 RepliesAnother thought. Destiny, in some ways, reminds me of The Elder Scrolls only without the decade-ish of worldbuilding. TES has some of the deepest, coolest, most well-thought out lore and world in videogames (and is probably my favorite fantasy setting period, no offense to Mr. Tolkien). However, outside of Morrowind and bits of Oblivion's expansions this lore is buried so deeply and, in a few cases (aka the Skyrim main quest), portrayed so badly you wouldn't even get a glimpse of the awesome stuff underneath. However, at least in TES the material to really dig into the meat of what's going on in is buried in the game. That's the major problem here. Having a world that requires digging and research on the part of the player is awesome, I'm all for it. However, the clues to that world should be IN THE GAME. Requiring the player to go onto their computer in order to paint that picture is extremely poor design. The internet should assist in the unveiling of that mystery, not be the sole way to understand what's going on.

6 RepliesSo apparently the Gorgons found the in game story prior to release...
-
Great idea wish Bungie explained it like this or something similar.

1 ReplyI also think that "Time's Vengence" is supposed to hint that time is an entity that Aetheon has been messing with to long and now Time is helping you in revenge against Aetheon.
-
10 RepliesAll this stuff is so cool. I don't understand the disconnect between the guys who did the grimoire and background lore/worldbuilding stuff and the main storyline. Something seriously got lost in translation.

of course he wasn't alone! he had his ghost with hum dummies.

2 RepliesDon't forget Shaxx and Saladin. Two more badass Titans.
-
75 Replieskabr=titan kabr single handedly entered the fault when your not supposed to be able to enter it alone. beat the living shit out of a gorgon that was supposed to not be able to be killed (seriously . . . try it. those gorgons are damn near unkillable) made a shield of light that casts away the power of the vex keeping you alive therefore titans are heros titans better then warlocks and cruddy hunters

I remember at the end of the Archive Mission at Venus, our Ghost did mention the Vault of Glass while gathering up information from the Terminal for the Cryptarch I kinda wanted to know more of that story as well bout the Doctor/Researcher who was studying all this and how it's connected to the Vault of Glass

8 RepliesThere better be a badass Warlock in the Hive Raid...

Well this makes SO MUCH SCENCE
