Just wanted to bring this up:
Folks have pointed out that the 2nd DLC is only 9MB or something, proof that the content is on disk. Edit: this is what some people believe is true based on some leak or something.
Consider this explanation:
With Dark Souls the DLC was also very small. But before the DLC came out, the game got a "patch" which was > 1GB IIRC.
I believe the point was to keep everyone's version of the game the same so they could still interact with each other in the common world, but I'm not a game designer so I don't know the exact reason.

2 RepliesJeneral, generally you shouldn't be increasing your version number with DLC. As you mentioned it can split up the player base. Generally you try and modulate as much as you can. Say I have access to DLC and you don't and we both kill an enemy in on the earth patrol mission, well my account may have a flag that allows the RNG to check an extended loot table. This flag may be as simple as a if statement.

1 ReplyYou are an idiot. The dlcs havent come out yet so you dont know how big or small they are. The dlc you can download from the market place are just placeholders right now saying you bought it and will have access to it when it releases. Just like bf3 and bf4 did with the le version and the first dlc that released. You downloaded the placeholder and when the dlc released you then downloaded the 5 gb dlc.

Whatever the size is, it's probably mostly stored and streamed from the bungie servers. You know, "CLOUD GAMING!", I'm not being a jerk, I'm saying it like a 50's b-movie announcer
