I've played a fair number of "social" (read MMO) games in my time.
Not once have I ever come across a quest dropped IN PVE require me to go through PvP to finish it.
I recently received the exotic quest to find Thorn, the exotic hand cannon. After eagerly completing the first two stages, I was ready to take on something really challenging. "Maybe I have to complete nightfall strikes without dying, or maybe even taking damage!" or "Maybe I'll have to finish the raid in a certain amount of time!" I thought to myself.
Nope. Grinding PvP.
really?
....... really?
No really, I'm asking you, Bungie......... REALLY?
I'm not a competitive player. I do not enjoy player vs player gameplay at all. In my experience it leads to nothing but frustration. I enjoy cooperative play, working with other players to take down a significant challenge. Like the raids, for instance, can't wait to try it for the first time. That's the kind of challenge I enjoy.
Why in God's name are you making me grind through the crucible, doing something that isn't fun at all to me, to finish a quest that I got while playing PvE?
This isn't good business. When you have both PvE and PvP in a game, it attracts two crowds: People who enjoy PvE gameplay, and people who enjoy PvP gameplay.
If you're playing PvE and a epic quest drops like this, KEEP IT IN THE PVE REALM. If you're playing PvP and an epic quest drops, KEEP IT IN THE PVP REALM.
Below is the most important part. This isn't hard to do, in fact many MMO style games already do this
At least provide options: For instance, lets say the following is one of the final requirements:
You must win 50 matches where you've maintained over a 2:1 K/D ratio
-OR-
You must complete 50 nightfall strikes where you don't die at all.
That way, people who enjoy PvP can achieve it through PvP means and still be challenged, and likewise people who enjoy PvE can achieve it through PvE means and still be challenged. I'm abandoning this exotic quest because I simply have no desire to frustrate myself in PvP. I'll stick to conquering the strikes and raids, thanks.

14 RepliesExact same situation here. I've got some exotic bounty for a hand cannon, which I was initially content with has turned bloody awful, first I had to do the moon strike, easy enough, then I had to get 500 pieces of energy from the Hive on the moon, not easy, but doing the strike completed it quicker. But now all of a sudden, I have to do a bounty in which I have to get 100 kills with void weapons, and the only good void weapon I have is a legendary sniper rifle. What's the problem? Every death drops 1 point that is earned through a kill and secondly the sniper has a scope which has a zoom that rivals an electron microscope. Who the f*** thought putting a scope like that in the game would be a good idea? The maps are far too bloody small for this 'precision' sniping. So basically for the past 2 hours I've been trying to do this part of the bounty and I'm still on 0, but what I have gotten is a hell of a lot more frustrated with Destiny to the point where I simply wasn't enjoying at game. I like the idea of keeping PvP bounties to PvP and so on, but this 100 kills is also completely stupid. Your requirements are quite tough, maybe a bit too tough, but the idea is good.

Yeah.. I try not to even look at this bounty. Makes me sad that I bought this game kinda. -_- wouldn't be the first time. I mean, I enjoy this game, but I totally agree. -blam!- PvP. At least for me. I really just don't care for it. Like you, I like the PvE aspect of the game. In fact I'm 27 almost 28 and I had level 0 135 crucible rep total. So weather some players claim it's so -blam!-ing easy. Bitch, I need help. I'll admit it. Maybe I could do it myself, if the very act of playing PvP makes me -blam!-ing annoyed as shit. I never had to play PvP in wow. So what kinda shit is this? I don't like PvP, so asking me to do a shit load of PvP, with a major handicap, while taking away my progress if I don't perform well enough I lose points. Talk about major frustration. My buddy got me to 41, and if anything, it's keeping me from playing PvP at all. Cause I don't want to lose those points like I have many times before. But you know what? Shadow of Mordor comes out today, so you can shove that exotic bounty right up your ass Bungie. I love you for halo, but you're making me sad..

2 RepliesEdited by Totsy30: 9/29/2014 1:20:05 AMThis bounty is very much like the portion of the legendary quest in WoW where players had to win in certain battlegrounds before progressing to the cape. Personally, I hate that they do this in WoW and Destiny because I'm a very competitive pvper in both of these games. I hated seeing some brand new 90 who's never pvped before and does nothing to help the team. This is the case in Destiny where I'll be playing crucible and get a teammate who doesn't have the faintest clue as to how they should fight other players. Then when that player goes 2-25, they get legendary engrams, thanks to RNGesus. I completed Thorn very easily(5 hrs for the whole bounty), but I'd like if the pvp portion was taken out so my team and I don't have to carry some mindless fool the entire game. I can understand that the pvp is for lore's sake, but maybe if they could execute it a different way would be nice. Maybe an alternative pve requirement. For example: "Harvest the light of dead guardians that you find in your travels." Then players would have the option to, instead of reviving, drain light from dead players. This could then force the other player to spawn themselves. I mean, you're supposed to seem evil sort of when you're doing this, so I think it'd be a good idea. Maybe if they had to drain the light of 50-100 guardians, they could finish this portion of the bounty. -Totsy out-

What a whiner. You sir are a gem. I would have given feedback concerning the flaw that all exotic weapon bounties share! They all reward you with a solar affinity exotic weapon. FAIL.

1 ReplyEnjoy your rare and legendary weapons lol

1 ReplyDude I don't PvP either but 50 nightfall without dying?
-
Um, maybe because getting exotics isn't supposed to be easy? They want to challenge players. And anyone that says they don't like competitive multiplayer really hasn't even played it much. I used to be intimidated by online players but now that I play it I'm very good and find it fun. Just last night I got 26 kills and 3 deaths in control. Yea, I used to be terrible at crucible.
-
I simply agree.

Edited by Malismo: 9/30/2014 2:19:00 PMGuild Wars 2 did it ;). WvWvW was after all also PvP
-
You can get exotic bounties from both PvE and PvP. They're not specific to one set of content for that reason.
-
1 ReplyThe main problem with the exotics is that you put in all that work just to find out there are legendary items that are better. How -blam!-ed up is that?
-
6 RepliesThis. The Void damage part of this bounty will drive me -blam!-ing insane by the end...it's redo ilium considering in early interviews they said that now taking part in PvP would not hinder the PvE experience. What a load of crap.
-
Tbh the thorn is one of the worst exotics. I got it yesterday from the bounty, and it wasn't worth it.
-
Exotic bounties are optional. You don't need to have the thorn to play this game. If you really want it that badly then you can do the bounty it's not as hard as it seems if you just nut up and do it. Exotic weapons are useable in PVE and PVP so why should you earn them only by doing PVE challenges? Bottom line if you can't do it delete it and buy an exotic from Xur instead and you don't miss out on exotic weapons either way.
-
1 ReplyI took the bounty for the exotic shot gun and completed the task in 3 games, not to mention it was the first time I played pvp since beta. From what I've heard the thorn isn't that amazing, there are plenty of other exotic weapons out there, if pvp is really bugging you so much trash the bounty and move on. Besides It's only 1 pvp task, after that you're home free.
-
4 RepliesDelete the bounty if you cant do it. If you not good at pvp your not good at pve either period.

Or 50 nightfall strikes, hilarious...masterchief collection can't come out sooner
The way they are currently is a mixture of PvE and PvP is required to complete most bounties. (One bounty, both types of gameplay required) The suggested change is for there to be a path for each bounty for PvP and PvE. (One bounty, your choose PvP or PvE)
Vote here regarding exotic weapon bounties: https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/70824470/0/0

2 RepliesYou're trying to state your opinion as a fact and isn't getting any fans to your side. Its an exotic weapon. Its a rare and extremely useful tool that can be used in both modes. Have patience geez ._. Would it be fair if i grinded a pve only exotic only to easily use its perks mainly in pvp? It wouldn't be fair as human competition can be rougher than nonadaptable ai opponents. Just use a normal rare gun if u can't rise to the challenge, the rest who do can rightfully claim a good exotic...and not by mere self entitlement i might add. The exotic bounty is there for EVERYBODY, most have done them already no problem. Why can't u?
-
I got forced into pve and lame easy strike grinds I think pve players should be forced to pvp as well. It shouldn't go one way especially with how trash the story was.

If you can't do it then don't. That simple

Agreed!

3 RepliesYou gotta earn the gun by being the best guardian there is, if you don't you don't deserve the gun. Simple.
