WARNING: Logic in use (rewards system)

Okay so atleast half the posts on this forum have been shitposts about the "broken" rewards system. There has been an uproar about how it gives more rewards to players who do worse, and I want to attempt to dispel these claims. Keep in mind my hypothesis ONLY works if Bungie has actually made their rewards system randomized, if in the future we find out they were giving lower players a higher rewards percentage, I will admit that I am a shitkicking bastard and suck at everything internet. Now let me give you an example of what I'm trying to argue before I argue: Someone asks you how your day was "Good" They ask you why "No reason, nothing bad has happened" The next day the same person asks you how your day was, but today is much different "Ah man it sucked" "Oh well I'm sorry to hear that, why?" And then you go off on a tangent, picking every little bad thing that happened to you, just to reassure yourself that your day has been horrible. You "can't" think of one good god damn thing that happened on this shitty day. You will always do this subconsciously. Good things did happen that day, but your mind chose not to remember because the bad things outweighed the good. It's a trick our minds play on us regarding emotional attachment to our well being. By the same token we can translate this to Destiny. [u][b]Also I will add: No I don't give a shit if you've played xx hours and haven't received anything, random is random, don't play the lottery you unlucky bastard. [/b][/u] I'm going with the 6v6 playlists when describing this btw. At the end of a game everyone has two reward slots. So that means you have two shots to get something, and it also means there are 10 more chances to get something for the other players. Simple probability, there's a higher chance that someone else wins something. [spoiler] [b]example:[/b] if you had a one of those rotating lottery cages with 100 numbered balls in it, and the winner was #1 and were saying the balls are being put back in after each draw. You get 2 chances to get it, while an umnamed source has 10. 2/100= 2% 10/100= 10%. 2%<10%. Umnamed source has a higher chance of winning.[/spoiler] Okay so now that we understand [u]that you are more likely to remember bad stuff that happens to you, and that there's a higher chance of someone else getting something in the destiny situation[/u], can you see where I'm heading with this? If not, read on. If so, skip to after the TL;DR and please follow instructions. Say your an above average player, or atleast you do well enough to be in the top half of the scoreboard. That means there's either 5, or 4 players under you. That also means there's anywhere from 83.34% to 66.67% of the possible spaces for awards under you. Math:[spoiler](slots=chances to win a random reward) 5 players under you = 10/12 slots remaining 4 players under you = 8/12 slots remaining [/spoiler] And so if players are [i]usually[/i] under you, you will [i]usually[/i] see worse players getting rewarded. If you [i]usually[/i] see players under you be rewarded, your rewards don't register in your mind as much, due to the anger/surprise of someone under you being rewarded, it is a more memorable event. Furthermore, if you [i]usually[/i] see worse players get rewarded, combined with the fact that their rewards outweigh yours in your memory, you will believe people who do worse than you have a higher chance to win. Which they don't, you just have a higher chance of seeing someone who did worse than you win if you are a high scoring player. Also, if you did bad a couple games and you were rewarded that game rather than the games you did good, you just got lucky, but because your so use to seeing people below you get rewarded, it mentally supports the belief that worse players get rewarded more. [b]TL;DR: The rewards system is not broken. RANDOM=/=BROKEN. If you thought that a RANDOM system was going to reward the top 13-33% more than the bottom 83-66% of players on the scoreboard, you have no bearing on probability and should probably play card games, I wnt ur muneyz nao. You win just as much as anyone else, but remember the times the reward system pissed you off. [/b] That's it. Done. Spoke my mind. Gave those two cents I was holding. [b]This was only directed to the people who truly believe Bungie is rewarding the worse players.[/b] I hope this could be the last thread ever on this subject, but I know it won't, [b]but anyone who understands my point could you kindly bump so this doesn't drown[/b]. AND PLEASE I WANT YOU TO ARGUE WITH ME, IF YOU CAN ACTUALLY FORM A LOGICAL DISAGREEMENT COME @ MEH M8.

  • People complain because they see it as a reward system. It's an RNG loot system. One little fix bungie can make is to not make the tab say not reward but loot. People will always remember the negatives and as such they will always complain.

      Agreed. We evolved to pay greater attention to painful or potentially dangerous things ("problems") because they are potential threats to our survival or well-being. We tend to ignore good things, or (eventually) take them for granted. The rewards system is random, because Bungie wants people playing the WHOLE game....and to play to the OBJECTIVE in the Crucible. Because that's what will keep the game viable and healthy in the long run. The "Loot Cave" situation just showed how far people are willing to go in unbalancing the game in an effort to recieve maximum reward for the least amount of effort. If awards were made on the basis of K/D ration in the Crucible....EVERY match would quickly become "team death match" as team objectives ----like holding control points----would get plowed under as people tried to get as many kills for themselves (not the team) as possible. It's the same with PvE. Which is why Bungie patched all the PvE exploits people were trying to use to circumvent the games play and economy.

                  Im pretty sure its merely for the sake of giving you the feeling that you dont need to do well to get rewarded. I mean, if you had to do well to get rewarded, dont you think youd have people quitting left right and center when their team is losing? I mean MORE then they already are? Plus its a silly complaint anyway, doing a level 3 heroic story mission where you somehow die a hundred times can get you better engram drops then a level 28 heroic one... its all chance. Dont see why PvP should be any different...

                    • That theory does make sense. I was thinking the best things are handed out to the worst people to try and help them either do better or stay playing the game. If the player kept losing and doing poorly AND watched everyone else getting things and they are not, they would probably go back to playing cod. Bad thing is, the people who carry the team get nothing, but when they do get something, its for the wrong class or its not worth using at all.

                      • The thing I don't understand is when I get four rewards and only one other person on my team gets one. Random yes, but highly improbable for it to happen as many times as it has. Anyone else get that?

                        you are wrong, i have played this game a lot since it came out all my 6 other friends have played around (my playtime)-40% and they have almost all their weapons legendary, they have found exotics in engrams, they have won exotics in the crucible and in the nightfall and i dont even have a legendary sniper yet , i had to buy all my armor from vendors and all my weapons from bounties or xur except of 1 machne gun 1 rocket launcer and 1 exotic helmet for my titan which i already had bought from xur a few minutes ago, i have done over 20 queens wrath missions and i cant get a legendary sniper, i finish vog and i get an auto rifle with 0 impct and stability my ctyptarch is 26 lvl and he has given me nothing while he gives everything to other people that do nothing the loot system is broken for allowing this kind of bad luck to happen i love this game but every time i see someone with an exotic like hawkmoon or truth or petience and time or icebreaker etc and they have tried less than me for them i want to pop out of the screen and strangle them, i have a bad kd ratio on crucible because i only play it for the bounties anymore, when i cary my team to victory 3 times in a row and i dont even get an engram and i see the last on my team getting an exotic weapon a few times a day while it never happenes to me i think its only logical thet i lose interest on winning or "performing well" in a game my problem with the looting system is that it is possible to have 1 usefull reward max every 100 hours of playtime while everyone you know and everyone you inspect has gotten so much they started scrapping then in that same amount of time

                        • Agree 100% with you on this post, what I don't understand is the people who complain about doing good with no rewards but continue to do good and complain, I feel if they truly thought it was biased towards top ranking players and not rewarding them wouldn't they purposely do bad to try for the better rewards they feel they deserve? Seems to me that people are bitching just to bitch.

                                • Great, logical post. I'll admit that seeing people below me get good gear frustrates the hell out of me, but this is a good way of explaining it and I'll think about it next time it happens.

                                  • I agree with this post and most other positive posts. Though there are few of those on the forums in comparison because the players who are for that apex of the argument are mostly all still playing the game and not worried about these forums... out of all the people complaining, it is still but a small decimal number of players in the destiny universe. Even if that number ranged into the ten thousands, it is still nothing compared to the amount of players happily enjoying the game by far...

                                  • The truth is, when i started out doing PVP I was horrible. Like, really really bad, it was my first FPS and I just royally sucked. However, in truth it was the rewards system that kept giving me stuff that made me want to hang in there and try harder. Yes eventually i stopped being one of those idiots who just rush into situations by herself and getting killed over and over again,. Eventually i DID learn that the best strategy is to go with your team-mates, wait for the best opportunity and run away if you feel instinctively that this fight is not going to bid well for you. Now i am actually an asset to my team instead of a burden. Whenever i see someone just rush into fire fights by themselves I just roll my eyes as i watch them get slaughtered, but ya know what....they will learn eventually and the loot system is there to give them a feeling of achievement when they realize that the shotgun dont always work. Let's be frank it's not like it will decrypt to be anything other than teh same blues over and over again anyway...
