Why does everybody hate the levels as Arbiter?

Ok I don't see why so many people hate playing as the arbiter. I thought his levels were very cool. It was nice to have helping team mates who had shields and could last a long time for example. It was an interesting challenge on many levels to distinguish friend from foe at a distance. It was also awesome to have grunt friendlies and hunters fighting with you for a change. I thought that the arbiter boards were often the more enjoyable ones to play, and they made a good story. The active camo was an awesome change to his playing. It comes at the expense of a light, and there were many times when I would have prefered the light so it is not neccesarily anything that makes it easier. Not to mention the arbiter looks awesome. Anyway, the active camo really lends itself to some awesome changes in tactics to take advantage of it. I thought it was an awesome change. I was shocked (in the good way) when I first played as an elite in the campaign. I loved seeing the covenant side of the story more. Now I would have liked to see more levels as the Master Chief, but I really liked the levels as the Arbiter.

 • The arbiter HAS to be in Halo 3, not only is he on Delta Halo with 343, Johnson, and Keyes' daughter; but he has now formed an alliance. Think: MC, marines, elites, and Hunters... on the same side. DUDE!!!!!

 • After playing halo 1 i had a great love for elites, because they were in many respects the same as MC, and also were my toughest enemies. So i had the best experiences fighting them and hunters. I have always felt that the true enemies were the flood, or maybe the sentinals because they just seem so heartless. The covenant is too cool to hate. Except jackals, they piss me off.(is it just me or did jackals look completely deiffent in halo 2?)

 • i think it was a great idea to let us play as elites, i liked having hunters on my team i always like hearing about covie side of story what the heck would you do as a flood? drool and get shot? and the arbiter was treated bad at first because he let MC blow up halo (so he was tortured), but you had to kill the heretic to regain a reputation, so you are respected in later arbiter levels. My question is when the brute throws Arbiter in the bottomless pit where the index is, how does he get out? when you next see him it looks like he is coming out of a teleporter, but this doesnt't make much sense. someone explain plz!

 • I loved the Arbiter levels! I thought it was great to see another side of the story, and I hope he's in Halo 3. And please don't make me play as a flood, because that would just be weird. -EDIT- And that "beak" helmet looks like it would hurt his mouth... [Edited on 11/16/2004 3:27:40 PM]

 • I like the Arbiter. He lets you experience the covenant perspective and gain more understanding of their society. I just don't like how they made the Arbiter "Soft". I would've liked to see a level as the Arbiter where you have to fight humans, first of all. And while the covie civil was really cool and well done, I would've preferred that the elites and brutes remain allies and have the story more focus on the covie-human war instead of the covie civil war. I really want to know why the covenant hate mankind, and why they refuse to let mankind even consider joining the covenant. Also, I didn't like his armor either...but cloaking is awesome.

 • Here is a beakdown for the Arbiter Missions: The Heretic: It shows that there is religious strife within the covenant, as a precursor to the civil war that is to come. The Oracle (companion to The Heretic): Shows that Guilty Spark 343 is revealing that the Covenant perspective is flawed, and sows the seeds of Hate towards Tartarus (just look at how he handles supposedly a holy oracle). The Quarantine Field: It shows that the Covenant is blindly following the prophets, even though it is leading them to their demise. It also shows that the Elites are doing to dirty work, for little gain (imo). The Sentinel Wall / Library (companion to The Quarantine Field): It shows the Arbiter's dedication to doing what is right, and finishes sowing the seed of hate against Tartarus and the brutes (they betray the Arbiter and steal the index). *Forget the Name* The 3rd to last Mission: You get revenge on the Brutes, and you realize Tartarus is planning to activate Halo. Bad times. The Great Journey (companion to the 3rd to last mission): You stop Tartarus and learn the truth about the Halo system. Each mission had relevant information about Covenant society, the Halo universe, or Halo itself in it. So the Arbiter levels played a critical role in the story. The Arbiter himself is also MORE THAN OR EQUAL to the MC (I know, its heresy). Lets look at the similarities. A key figurehead for his forces, understands the purpose of Halo, is an honorable soul, and is fighting for what is 'right'. Not to mention that the Arbiter can cloak on command (yay for Covenant tech). The MC Respects Elites for their combat prowess, and the Arbiter respects the Demon for his. The Arbiter also doesnt just blindly 'hate' people like some other covenant races. The only beef I have with the Arbiter is his armor. I think it looks like crap, and I think it could have been much more kickass to play in simple Elite armor (the helmets are just cooler than the Arbiter 'beak' helmet).

 • I don't hate the Arbiter. I hate the Prophets of Truth and Mercy for dressing him up in that silly Planet of the Apes armor. Let him keep the gold armor, prophets! Come on, throw the poor guy a bone!

 • I'll be honest. I liked the Arbiter but I would have prefered playing as Master chief. They could have easily done those levels as MC and just changed the storyline up a bit for them. However they were good and enjoyable. I just hope Halo 3 has more Master Chief though.

 • Playing as the arbiter was cool. I love getting a fresh perspective every now and then, and having elites as your allies... well, it rules. On the other hand, I hate fighting the flood, and that's mostly what the arbiter did. They're annoying, and it's like shooting down a bunch of wild animals, instead of actual soldiers. Shooting wild animals can be fun, but not when they have rockets and tanks and gauss cannons and... Remove some of the "Library" aspects of the game, and the arbiter would have been my favorite to play as.

 • I liked it and about the comment Being on the losing side. He obivously isnt a loser towards the end and shame was put on him by prophets and they just a bunch of old aliens sitting on floating wheelchairs. And on the mission as MC during the covie civil war i found it a little hard to shoot that elite who on the last mission as Arbiter helped you. I loved the whole thing but I was peeved about the ending. Because from what i heard it would end the story. Glad and happy. Hope H3 comes soon i need more story. [Edited on 11/16/2004 2:45:48 PM]

 • I don't mind them it adds a bit of variation to the game. I had to say i got quite sick of playing Master Chief in the first game as he was the only charachter to choose from. It would also be a bit stupid to have the arbitor in multiplayer and then not the campaign. It's a welcome change for me.

 •
Posted by: TroyKnight Playing as teh Arbiter turned the Covenant from the "evil enemy who' sole purpose is to kill me" to the Covenant who were blindly if not purposely lead to destruction--and the Elites unfortunately brought most of the way along. The Elites turned out to be an honorable bunch who, before I had no respect for, but now do.
So true.

 • After the first level, I was like, WOW, that was freaking awesome! Just after that, I was like, I sure am glad they didn't pull a metal gear solid, and introduce a new character like Raiden to steal the story. But, actually, I really love the Arbiter missions. They have the same feel, help pan out the story, and c'mon people, who doesnt love elites? I've actually wanted to be one since the first game! Well Bungie, thanks for another awesome game, for keeping it real with the master chief, and making my dream come true by letting me play as an elite! :-D [Edited on 11/16/2004 1:07:11 PM]

 •
Posted by: Tomatoe What the Heretic had to do with Halo or the conflict between the Covenant, Humans, and Flood...I'll never know.
Umm... maybe nothing other than provoking all-out civil war among the Covenant, breaking them into two factions and leading to the deaths of prophets. And leading the Arbiter and the Elite faction to a new understanding with the human race.
