If they plan on charging us for dlc for the next x amount of years, they must be completely insane. Don't do it they're ripping us all off. If the dlc was truly free, they would've included it into the vanilla version of the game. They plan on charging players HUNDREDS of dollars to get the "full destiny experience". Don't buy anything extra at all. I already made the mistake of buying the mission pass when I first got the game. I regret it 100%. We need a solid micro transaction boycott against Activi$ion.
Edit: OK maybe these aren't micro transactions, but still I believe my point stands. The game is unfinished and it's entirely unfair to charge us so much to get the rest of the game. It's like they're finding loop holes to increase the price of the game without deviating from any solid price negotiations they have with Microsoft and Sony. It's sickening!
Edit2: it's not about paying for DLC. Extra content is a good thing and I support it, but what they're selling us is not extra content. This is content that was already finished at release, (possibly months before release). They claimed many things about this game that just simply aren't true. The story mode is finished, but they took half of it out to sell to us later. Open world exploration is an exaggeration. Interacting with other players is hardly true, and other things, like teammates dropping in from their ship when they joined your game like in the old demo videos, were all taken out. It all feels like a scam. That's what the issue is. We were told one thing, when in reality, we got something different. Its not right.
Edit3: also I understand a boycott will not work. The point is to send a message. Thank you for all the feedback its comforting to know I'm not the only one who feels this way. Also removed boycott from title due to it being misleading.
Edit4: I had posted this in reply to someone else's post, but I will post it in the OP so you all can get another point I'm trying to relay to you: So your telling me you can see yourself playing the game as is for the next couple years? Couple months? You'd have washed this game out within a couple of days I promise you. If this game truly took 5 years to make, I expect more than just a couple days worth of playing. They advertise the game as something of a masterpiece, something to out do halo, then they held back all of that content they already showed us to sell to us later so they can make more money. This is the point I'm trying to make, and everyone is in denial about it. Why is it so hard to accept? The audience they're trying to reach out to is teenagers. People who don't care about what they spend their money on, and are easily influenced. That's why call of duty makes money every year! It takes them one year to put a game out, but theystill insist on charging $60 for it, along with some season pass that probably costs about $40. They're running the same trick with destiny. I bought this game to enjoy it for a long time. I work about 9-10 hours a day, so I don't have much time to play games, but I've already managed to get to level 22, and I'm almost done with the story. The content is extremely underwhelming, and they expect us to pay to get the rest of it. I feel double crossed, and I'm sure others feel the same way. (Also no offense to teenagers not saying you don't know how to manage your money or anything lol!)
Edit5: a post by user Aerikx stating that there is locked content on disk that players are glitching into. Only proving how wrong this really is.
RAS Bunker, Kings Watch (fully populated by NPCs), Seraphim Vault.
Zones: Every planet was annouced to have 8 to 11 zones that would be explorable.
Data-mines have shown Old Chicago to indeed exist.
And of course the numbers are speculation.
I took the retail cost and split the cost apart across the various gameplay modes.
The goal was to give each piece of content a value/price. Then look at the DLC cost & the content it unlocks/adds-on comparison to the retail release content.
By slapping a price onto the disc locked content you can "gauge" a pricepoint.
Then you can factor the price/cost of all the content that was pulled & locked in order to be resold as DLC.
That said my prices could easily be wrong. Destiny content could come out in 4.99 packs, possibly free(unlikely).
However the only DLC I can base a price off of is The Dark Below & The House of Wolves.
So at this point in time the safest assumption is that they will be the standard price & content amount that future Destiny DLC will be.
They will most certainly NOT be the only DLC this game gets.
As for the monthly DLC plan I stated.
Well...I doubt both DLC packs will come out at the same time.
We will get one...once a month. Thats how they plan to keep players interested with "new" content.
When they annouce The House of Wolves DLC release date. I fully expect them to annouce another pack of DLC that will have a release date set in the very next month.
9 RepliesHello, my name is TribalA13X! I believe that people who put their hard work and a SUBSTANTIAL amount of their own money to create a fantastic product (with continual support) should NOT get our money for additional services. In spite of the fact that the company is still in it's FIRST THREE WEEKS of releasing this product (a time frame critical for dedicating to bug funding and fixing server issues), I think they should give us everything they already have released. You know... so we can have nothing to look forward to! It doesn't matter that they may have to test for server/content stability or adjust this the new content based off of how fast people completed the game to ensure longevity and enjoyment of the new material. They should give it to us for FREE and right NOW because they have a prototype created. So, you know.. I deserve it. Does this sum up your post accurately? I agree, the cost of gaming is expensive. Just like milk is expensive; due to inflation. If you want something more than what is offered... either pay your dues or don't buy the product if it's not up to your satisfaction. However, something tells me this "lack of free content" will not keep you from playing 40+ more hours of Destiny. So there's an acronym that fits your situation perfectly. That acronym is "GTFO".

Edited by TribalA13X 93: 9/30/2014 3:58:17 AMI'm glad there are other posts pertaining to this subject. Anyone who doesn't believe any of this just please think it through. Why is it so hard to believe? Blowing the game out of proportion, then capitalizing on the hype that was created? That's not irrational at all. Don't simply defend it because you're a fan. It's deeper than that.

1 ReplyMost Dlc is on the disc already! Destiny Bug reveals future content and expansions: http://youtu.be/c-osssAKgEc

1 ReplyOP.... ...shaddup.

Every game developer does this and we all caused this for downloading illegally.

Edited by TrueVanguard: 9/28/2014 8:53:47 PMSorry op, when dlc comes out that you have to buy, imma snatch that stuff up like a Twinkie after Armageddon.

2 RepliesSo how much money do you think PC gamers are having to drop each time an expansion comes out for whatever MMO they're playing?
-
The DLC is FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

FREE.
-
It's this the way all games should go? So we don't need to drop $70 each year on a completely new game? So that anyone wanting to enjoy the benefits of Destiny really needs to start from Ground Zero like the rest of us instead of joining in with a Destiny 4 game and being treated equally? No. This is the game I want. Continual DLC with an open story that isn't completed each time. My Warlock lives in an unfinished universe...

4 RepliesThe dudes right. If Bungie really sticks to what they said... Then... It'll be 10 years of you buying the rest of the puzzle pieces to an unfinished game. You'll spend more money on dlc than the game itself. A lot of the early expansions are merely parts of the game ripped out and scattered with a price tag. That's why the game gets so repetitive. New content is on the other side of the $$$.
-
Part of this is activision greed. Part of it is actual development and maitenance costs The DLC just like the content we currently have is undoubtedly unbalanced and unfinished and in the coming months will have various adjustments made to them by the developers to tailor the experience to the fanbase. That means they need coders, artists, etc... to be in the studio doing work which involves them needing to pay employees. DLC is not arbitrary money making and as someone who has seen the cost of these projects firsthand believe me when I say every dollar counts towards getting the project done. Some corners can be cut but then your overall experience is hampered. Will see how bungie handles this before i deliver final judgement on whether this is a money grab or actual developmental costs though.

3 Replieslmao.... I love people that rage about DLC.

Yay shooter players who dont have a clue whats going on with this game. I already bought my Xpacs and Im about to buy another set for the kids. Why? Because I can.

Says it all I think

Here's the thing with DLC for any game, if it's worth it to you, buy it. If not, don't buy it. I am really into this game, and will consider the DLC, especially since I don't see any other interesting games around.

10 RepliesEveryone's beloved Skyrim released with a shitton of bugs and everyone gave Bethesda a pass because, "Oh well all Bethesda games come with bugs lol." Then came the DLC for a game I had not even finished. No body called Skyrim DLC a money grubbing scam. How about the DLC released for Call of Duty and Battlefield even Halo, those are just maps and everyone eats it up. I don't buy every game that gets released just the ones I want, so since Destiny is the only game I'm playing at the moment I don't mind the pricing for it. Sure it would get lowered if people didn't buy it but I like this game and feel the pricing is fair, so why would I not but more of it?

2 RepliesI know where you are getting and completely understand your irritation to the fact that Destiny a beloved game we all hoped to stay true ended up playing the dlc unlock card. I both hate that through data mining it has been locked for Dlc, but you also have to see it through them. Yes we want we paid for but for them to make a living they have to extend it in anyways possible. It's frustrating at the very least but I found that if you are not getting the full experience from Destiny play with people who are enjoyable. I have hit level 29 and beaten VoD twice and still working on raid set. It's boring but what gets me by day by day is helping people out like bungie intended people's savage me and look at me as a hero for easily beating a nightfall for them or taking part in VoD even tho I don't get rewarded. These things can make it all the better. I've gotten so many compliments from the gaming community, try it and please tell me if it made you glad you buy it. When dlc comes out I will download it but I agree it should've been in the game from start.

I got the LE so the DLC is included. Destiny reminds me of Defiance before the devs destroyed it. Of course Defiance had text and voice chat. Both are grindy and repetative. I enjoy playing but would like to see more mmo elements included. VtxR - PS3

I blame Activision

Edited by Lockness: 9/26/2014 8:07:18 AMA bit harsh but the mans got a point. Money does seen to be all bungie wants now false advertisement is a major sin especially because that's the only thing we have to base out purchases on. They've told us that they would be making game changing updates until the sequel comes out, but they've already made those and they're in the form of dlc if I'm going to be satisfied with destiny I'm gonna need a lot more free updates with good content I'm not gonna pay for extensions to preexisting areas. Sure you could argue that activisions to blame but I don't believe that's the case, because in the end it's really bungie's artistic integrity that should be put on trial. Before launch every single developer sounded so passionate about what they were doing and was excited, but now all we hear is a bunch of lame ass embellishments by DeeJ and no explanation for the delivery of something so subpar that couldn't live up to the hype it was intended to generate. I still play this game because crucible is maybe the best fps out there right now, but I'm gonna need ACTUAL guarantees if I'm gonna purchase any dlc. The rehashed missions with "rewards" and xp bonuses can only last so long, and my god the story in these dlc had better blow halo out of the water or I will declare bungie a dead company. Honestly, up until now I hardly even know what happened in the primary campaign. Poor mission structure, no in game map, and hours of grinding is not what I wanted. 10 years is a long time to promise, let's start with the first 6 months Bungie. Let Destiny live! Restore my faith in your greatness. Let them hear this community! That we are united in change! Btw the whole cash grab thing must be why Jason jones and Marty left/were fired, such a shame to lose their amazing talents. Edit: I also wanna note that all that supposed lore they were creating hardly materialized in game and grimoire cards are a sad excuse for something that should be filling the actual damn game with life sure you can tell me what the fallen are and what their problems are/where they came from or whatever's in the damn cards(there are so many I refuse to look at all of them) but I'd much rather you SHOW ME THEM IN GAME. That's what makes a great game. Come on game design 101 bungie seems like amateurs the way things are goin now give us some support.
-
I remember my first MMO (without a subscription)
-
I cannot wait for the new DLC!!! I think I'll pay for it twice just because!!!
-
the people who made halo aren't even at bungie anymore. They all quit/was fired during the dev of destiny. Bungie is no more.
-
1 Replyi love this game so much an i am paying for dlcs cause i want it, thanks bungie, i love destiny

1 ReplyUnfortunately I bought the limited edition cuz I liked the core mechanics of the game after the beta and surely thought that the game couldn't be that repetitive and would have more content to it. I was surely mistaken. I totally regret not reading reviews before buying this game bc it is one of the worst purchases Ive ever made.
