75% of all the legendaries are gated behind pvp rep / crucible marks
Almost all of the exotic bounties have difficult pvp steps
Thorn – Exotic Handgun -- Kill Guardians in the Crucible using void damage. Deaths slow your progress greatly!
Bad Juju – Exotic Pulse Rifle -- Fight in the Crucible and obtain 10,000 points and have a kill to death ratio above 1-1
Invective – Shotgun -- Fight in the Crucible and achieve 25 more kills than deaths.
Fate of All Fools – Exotic Scout Rifle -- Multiple PvP steps
Every special event that has occurred is occurring or is scheduled to occur is pvp oriented
Salvage - PvP
Combined Arms - PvP
Queen's Wrath - PvP/PvE
Iron Banner - PvP
I thought Queen's bounty was going to be a pure pve event, but alas 3 out of the 4 bounties for today are, you guessed it, pvp bounties.
Why the extreme bias in favor of pvp when this game was touted as a shared world, rpg style loot, exploration heavy, "play your way" kind of game?
If you're going to have all these pvp events and do nothing for the pvers you're cutting yourselves off at the knees, and the description of the game offered by Bungie feels misleading.
Possible solutions:
Give bounties dual objectives, 1 that's pvp centric and 1 that's pve centric and allow the player to choose which way to finish the bounties.
Open up all of the vendors to both currencies.
I understand that recycling PvP which kind of creates its own content is easier than creating something new for PvE, but I'd be happy even with a recycled content PvE event mixed in with all of the PvP events. Queen event is the best attempt at that thus far, but all of the other events are purely focused on PvP and it just feels as though the PvE is being jilted.

Agreed. It should be a choice and not forced. Too much focus on PVP in an advertised PvE game. Additionally the bounties change day to day on whether it's more PvE/PVP bias for the queen. But this should have been a strict PvE event. At least make it even where each week it switches between PVP focus or PvE focus. Not just give us once a month

Edited by LoboFH: 9/25/2014 11:15:57 PMI got finally my lovely Thorn and I like Bungie shoved PvP down my throat, I discovered a very fun experience. I am a PC player, I never felt confident about my skills against players more used to controllers, my first Destiny matches were terribad and I ignored the game mode. Thorn bounty forced me to improve myself and hell, I did...and now I love crucible, I must admit.
-
I agree with this. I enjoy the PvP and I am good at, but I hate being forced to play, especially with weapons I don't like in PvP. That being said the Marks are a definitely problem. You should be able to buy items with either Vanguard or Crucible Marks, and for the love of god remove the 100 Mark limit.
-
Agree, far too much PVP bias >_<
-
I don't really see it as that much of an imposition. Usually other people in the crucible are busy trying to get their daily challenges done so are out of their comfort zone as well- trying to get fusion sprees and melee kills. Just limp through it; you might even get a legendary or have a great game.
-
4 RepliesI 100% agree with this. I am doing the exotic bounty for Bad Juju and was super bummed to see I had to play PVP to complete it.
-
Great post, I completely agree - since PvP and PvE gear is the same thing, we should be able to choose how we get that gear. It shouldn't be gated by pvp.
-
my problem is, isthat even the pvp bounties are hard for me to do. which is why I raised my vanguard rank to 3 instead. So when there's a pvp oriented queens wrath. that leaves me out of gaining much needed rep to even be able to achieve rank two by the time the event is over to get the stuff you can buy. Im not impressed really. but i'll try to get what i can before I move anyway.
-
I agree. I dont want to play pvp anymore... Its not my thing... So we wait patiently for explore bountiez:)
-
Thank you..I dont play much pvp...my reflexes and desire to run around getting sniped have both waned..bungie between the bs updates and ruining exotic /queen bounties by shoving pvp down my throat..severly lost my love of the game. Please consider alternates for this stuff ...there is simply no way I will ever complete crucible for the thorn...at least drop points for deaths??
-
I agree. Didn't have xbox gold till just recently. PvP seriously screws up any forward motion you might want when you have no ability to join multiplayer.
-
dude, 3 of the 5 bounties are always PvE based, so what's your problem?? Some people actuall like the PvP, like me, and are happy to get rep and bounties not by doing the same strike/A.I. killing over and over again.
-
I also agree fully. I also think bungie should have made gear sets for the dif styles of gaming. Light sets for pve and dark or resilient sets for pvp.
-
I agree. I hate PVP in this game. I refuse to play unless I have a full 6 of my clanmates. Playing with randoms I can't talk to guarantees defeat every single time.
-
Very much in agreement with the OP. Nice solution too!
-
Absolutely. I'm sick of HAVING to PVP in order to enjoy a game. Bungie, I love ya'll. Look at my Games played. Hell, I moderated a Halo Reach/4 Clan!!! But in order to break into some better gear, the requirements on some weapons are beyond ridiculous. How bout toning em down so that folks who don't have PVP mastery tatooed on their butt can get some as well?
-
Couldn't agree more about the Queen's Bounties. Back to back days of 3 out of 5 bounties being PvP. Why can't they make 6 bounties for the Queen/Special Events? 3 for PvP and 3 for PvE.
-
You're forgetting that you can turn in 50 of any material for 5 marks and something like 50 reputation. Just wear a cloak for the faction's armor you want and go farm some materials. You can get 5 marks worth of materials in the time it takes you to complete a Crucible mission or two. While also getting glimmer and a chance for rare engrams and ship designs. I consider that a good trade-off for people that don't like PvP.

All this get some PVP skills talk is pointless: It takes skill to use a shotgun in and hide in a corner and blast people going to a control point over and over, or use blade dancer ult and kill five people with a single melee attack each before it wears off, use a fusion rifle on anyone ever, or to camp spawn points with sniper rifles on the big maps (yes this happens).... PVP is just as much of a grind as PVE, and has just as many easy exploits and mechanics that allow people with little to no skill perform. The thing is though, a lot of people myself included don't really enjoy PVP and get more out of the PVE and we grind to get a exotic bounty doing nothing but PVE content and then suddenly we are faced with picking one of three exotic bounties that give no indication that completing them is going to require a serious PVP commitment. Imagine how long a person that has never been into PVP is going to take to get a 25 KD in a match? You spent a week of solid playing to get one chance at an exotic bounty, and you get one you couldn't complete without doing months of PVP to get "good" enough. How about making it clear what each bounty is going to require from the start, rather than having to look it up on some crap FAQ online or give options like get a 25 KD or Complete a Nightfall Strike without dying, you think that doesn't take skills you are a fool.

2 RepliesEdited by MASSive: 9/25/2014 6:28:37 PM
75% of all the legendaries are gated behind pvp rep / crucible marks
False. Stop being over dramatic. There are a total of 24 legendary weapons that require playing PvP to purchase from Crucible-based vendors (this includes factions). There are also 12 legendary weapons that require only PvE play to buy. This does not count the special event weapons which do not require PvP play. Also, there are legendary drops, the Vault of Glass weapons, the PS exclusive weapons, etc. Not to mention that you are able to get the "PvP exclusive" weapons from decryption or random drop. While you may have a little room to complain about exotic weapons, you do not for the legendary.

1 ReplyMy buddies 're urged one of the exotic weapon bounites, he is a pve player and has grinded for hours to get a gold weapon, he was so excited..... The bounty, you have to kill 500 guardians, he has not picked the game up since. I cannot blame him, the bounties are getting ridiculous and I have not found crap in armor. I'm supposed to fight on the vault of glass but I am spending all my time getting my armor..... #feelinglikedestinyletmedown

The PVP is a joke. I'd rather grind the strikes and raids than putting myself through their PVP.
-
Bump. I totally agree. I don't enjoy pvp that much and don't want to be forced to play it. That is exactly what they are doing as the daily quests are getting to be mostly pvp. Mabe this should be fixed instead of taking thugs away from us.

11 RepliesI think its primarily because all new PvE content takes a great deal of time and effort to create refine and polish to the point where it's ready for public play. More than a couple of weeks after launch to be certain! I have actually received many of what you called "gated" Legendary weapons and armor pieces through PvE content. 1: Cryptic Dragon Scout Rifle [Crucible via Lord Shax], obtained from Legendary Engram decryption while playing story on Venus at Campus 9. 2: Unwilling Soul Auto Rifle [Dead Orbit] obtained as a reward for completing the Week 1 Devil's Lair Nightfall. 3: Hex Caster Arc Auto Rifle [Dead Orbit] obtained Via Legendary Engram decryption, received while patrolling Mars' Buried City. 4: The Cure Rocket Launcher [FWC] obtained from Week 3 Nexus Nightfall. 5: The Chance Hand Cannon: [FWC] obtained from week 2 Summoning Pits Nightfall (from which my friend and fireteam member obtained the incredible Suros Regime!) I have actually received several legendary vanguard weapons as a result of mission rewards and legendary/rare decryptions as well, notably the Light/Beware fusion rifle, but those aren't "gated behind PvP" as you say, so I suppose they don't count. Additionally, there are always Xur's exotics which can be obtained via the strange coins gathered in ALL modes of play. As for the Queen's Bounties, yesterday 3/5 were PvE based, not to mention that every SINGLE queen's wrath mission is a PvE Story event... but I suppose you prefer to ignore the points that work against your general complaint, so we'll move on. As far as Legendary faction armor goes, it can also be obtained through PvE in the same ways as my examples above show, I received the Justicar's Hood [New Monarchy] in just this fashion. If you want to BUY these legendaries, you need crucible marks to obtain them. This is true, but you can still get them regardless of your affinity for type of play. As it happens, the versions obtained outside of vendors don't usually have the same stock bonus sets as those bought, and their stats are typically slightly better overall. So...in the end, the game isn't extremely biased in favor of PvP, but rather the game tries to give players a REASON to play PvP, whether it's working on your faction reputation to get access to that weapon that suits your PvP play style, or for the armor set that suits your preferred pair of ability stats. Note, buying one of those Legendary weapons requires 150 marks, a full week and a half of Crucible investments! With minimum value armor piece prices at 65 marks, you can only buy ~1.66 legendary armor items in any given week, provided that you completely forgo ALL legendary weapons and give up on the more expensive 120 mark armor pieces. Working toward buying your legendary items is much tougher than finding them in the wild, and this makes PvE likely the best mode of play for obtaining high quality items, at least that's how I got myself geared to the point where my friend and I two-manned the Nexus Nightfall in under half an hour. XD Despite everything I've said though, I do definitely wish there was more PvE content variation. I wish there were limited time PvE events in the wild that would show up for a few hours to give us something new and exciting. Weekly original story missions that expand on the universe would be absolutely killer as well. I know the content creation rate required to make that happen would be very heavy, but still I wish for it quite heartily. I want more PvE, more strikes, more raids, deeper stories, varied story lines... but I don't really condone yelling at PvP because of it.

How about every day when u log in, there are 10 legendary items waiting for u at the post master! Would never have to do a bounty that u don't want to again.

Agreed
