I don't understand all the complaints about the Cryptarch. If he gave out Legendary and Exotic items like candy these items would cease to be super rare. By definition they're supposed to be extremely difficult to get. It shouldn't matter whether you farm for Engrams nonstop all day long. You have to look at the bigger picture here: this is a game that's designed to provide years of entertainment. Players need to re-focus their attention on enjoying the actual gameplay aspect, and let the super rare items come naturally throughout that long journey. Otherwise the game would get pretty boring quickly if everyone walked around with rare armor and weapons within a week of release. It's actually nice to a see game that doesn't automatically reward people for wasting hours at a time grinding away.

  • I understand that legendary gear shouldn't be easy to get, but if the engram says LEGENDARY, then it should be LEGENDARY. Its a simple concept. If an engram says common, it should be common. If an engram is uncommon, it should be uncommon. If an engram is rare, it should be rare. If an engram is LEGENDARY, it should be LEGENDARY. If an engram is exotic, it should be exotic. If Bungie wants legendary loot to be difficult to obtain, they should just put less legendary engrams in the game(or make it harder to find), rather than get everyone's hopes up just to shit all over their dreams when they take it to the Cryptarch. Its not a crazy request; its actually quite simple.

  • No, I agree with you there. I don't like the coloration system any more than you do. I mean maybe it implies that your chances of getting something is higher if it's THAT certain color. But in all honesty I'd prefer they just kept Engrams silver with some generic name. I think that'll get rid of some of the raging issues that's going on. Although I feel like there'll still be some people who will always feel entitled to having everything unlocked and done within a week of playing the game. Those are the type of people I was directing my original post towards.

  • Beat the game? You finished a single chapter of the storyline and you think it's all over now? That's exactly what Bungie was trying to explain to everyone before all the mediocre reviews came pouring out of the flood gates. The game isn't over—not by a long shot. Future content is coming. In the meantime there are Strike missions, Raids events, PvP tournaments, etc. The problem as I see it is that too many people are fixating on the looting aspect of the game, and less on the gameplay itself. If you do that you're going to have a bad time. While the game isn't a true MMORPG, it does share strong MMO ties in its design. One of those aspects is rare items. When something is labeled Legendary or Exotic, it truly is a super rare item. It's not some fake label they put on to encourage people to grind away and farm tons of engrams. That's not how it works. You're just supposed to play the game as you normally would. You're never guaranteed rare items, but you can certainly increase your chances by entering yourself into time sensitive PvP tournaments and harder difficulty Strikes/Raids. Or if you're feeling lazy you can just collect Strange Coins and buy rare items off of the black market vendor. So no it's not like you're completely at the mercy of some random dice roll either. It's just that farming items isn't as rewarding as other games.

That's exactly what Bungie was trying to explain to everyone before all the mediocre reviews came pouring out of the flood gates. The game isn't over—not by a long shot. Future content is coming. In the meantime there are Strike missions, Raids events, PvP tournaments, etc." Im sorry, i like destiny but lets be honest for a moment. I paid $60 for the game plus $39 for expansion pass. That means i paid, +tax a grand total of $103.19 ,still have my receipt. That being said, i paid all that money for not even 5% of a game. Remove expansions and thats still $60 for a barely there game. Like I said i like it, but it really is nothing like what was advertised. If the advertisements were for what they hope it to be in 10yrs, than they should have been more clear on that and not advertised THIS copy as what it "could be" and more of what it "really is." Again i say i like the game, i have to keep throwing that out there because i get attacked by crazed destiny fans that don't see a single flaw in this game that is full of them. The story really was not there. I have ran through the game multiple times and all i know is: There is the traveler that came to earth and then things got bad with aliens coming around and i died long ago but am now back thanks to peter dinklage. My mission is to kill the aliens on every planet while not really having much of a reason too other than i had a big toy and they want it . But first i need to activate my bike on each planet before i go kill these creatures that want my toy. But then i need permission from queen big tits to go do more of what i did on earth and the moon. Kill some guys on mars and i beat this game. There are no memorable characters, i feel no emotional connection to the character i am supposedly going to be playing as for the next 10yrs. The should let the people that wrote for Mass effect write the story for destiny because, im sorry to the writers, but that was pretty bad. I can forgive the shortness of it if it were more interesting, descriptive, actually there. The gameplay is great and addictive...extremely repetitive though. To make up for the nearly not there story they could have packed other content in. Instead I have strike missions, which play the exact same things i just did in the "story" but on an increased difficulty. Not that entertaining. Then we get these amazing bounties, which are really just a challenge to do that basically brings you to the same things yet again for a certain number of kills of a specific enemy or kills in a specific manner and do not take much time at all to complete. The crucible challenges, while taking more time, are not that challenging nor rewarding, just more of the same. Fun, but the same. Not to mention i keep getting crucible challenges for salvage, and there is no salvage game mode. Many people are upset with the rewarding system. And rightfully so. I understand that good items are supposed to be rare and you are supposed to play more to get them. However, it does suck when you have played for 8hours and have gotten nothing worth keeping and then your friend or some random guy plays 1 match on crucible and gets 2 legendary engrams or strange coins or exotic weapons and such. A friend and i have been trying to get ascendant shards for 2 days. In 2 days of playing, more than 10hrs of play i will say, we only received 1 shard. That is even doing the event challenges that occur every half our or so as well. It seems as though the items you require to upgrade weapons and gear are dropping more frequently for some people more so than others. I know it frustrates me seeing friends that have played less than half of the time i have and already have nearly maxed legendary gear and weapons and I only have 2 legendary items, one of which I had to purchase. It is just slightly unbalanced for many people. Some people say "well this is what you get when you play MMOs" But MMO's have content, they have vendors, they have things to keep you entertained. WoW is a constant comparison. WoW has 300x the content of Destiny. Even Defiance had more content. That game was made for cheaper, looked it to but still was packed with random things to do and big battles to keep you excited. For many people, not all people, but for many people its not about just getting their way, its about the game being more frustrating than entertaining at the moment. So many things not explained, not much to do, an unbalanced reward system, a not so social social system. Pointing and dancing is not exactly social and restricting talking to only those in a fire team just makes it even harder to meet new people and interact with them. As for the constant response i get from people that the game is going to be updating and adding new thing and new games for around ten years so i just need to shut up and dont play if i dont like it i say this. I like the game, but there are many issues that should have been addressed pre-launch and some advertising that, well truly is false advertising. Also i should not have to wait 10yrs and hundreds of dollars to understand the story. Breaking it down into say trilogies and dlc really makes it a greedy game then. If destiny were a club it would be like this: $60 for admission to hallway, $40 to get to coat check. $60 to get in club. $40 get start some music. $60 to buy a drink. $40 to let other people in to have fun. That's $300 you have to spend before you start to have fun and realize why you are even at the club/playing the game and that is ridiculous and insulting the consumers who have purchased this game. Im not trying to attack or destroy or down this game. I am simply pointing out some flaws that really need to be seen to to keep and increase the fan base. Many people have already returned their copies and went back to other games and that is bad to have happen this fast. The massive amount of bad reviews, while not all 100% actual issues were very close to what really is some big problems, especially since Destiny is a brand new IP that is trying to become a stable series in the gaming world. I for one am actually happy with the amount of people begging for a good story. In this day and age of constant games that really have no story or a really bad story but no one cares because the just play the online, it is a breath of fresh air to hear gamers wanting a great story experience again. Developers need to take note of this and deliver great stories. Great co-op experiences. Borderlands, while repetitive as well, not so much as destiny but still repetitive, had a not so amazing story line but still managed to deliver hours of fun storyline and some very memorable characters that left you actually wanting more with dlc to see those characters again and kept you coming back over again. Many people are already burnt out with destiny because it lacks all of the good qualities of the games it emulates that kept people glued to those games. There really is no customization either. Would be nice if we could choose the color of our clothes instead of shaders that make everyone look the same. Maybe put a character editor that we can use to change our appearance some if we wish, new hair, new face, something. Destiny as a great base to build off of and make a great gaming experience. But for many, myself included it feels as though were are still just playing a beta that we payed full price for. I am excited for the dlc and waiting to see whats in store for us, but that is not set to release for another 3 months. As a gamer I really want this game to succeed and grow into one of the largest games around. I want people to be excited for it and play it as much as COD fans play COD. I want to hear about the next installment of destiny and get as exited as I did every time I heard a new gears of war was coming out. But for now im just waiting for the real destiny game to come out. Three months is a long time to wait for something new, especially with this type of game. In that time span I hope to see many updates and fixes. I wish we could get some real story to play through like bioware did for fans of mass effect 3 in replacing the ending, but I dont see that happening. I want it to be great i really do, but they have really dropped the ball on this one so far.

  • For the record I don't think the game is perfect either. I agree that it has its flaws. I don't want to give the impression that I'm some stubborn Bungie fanboy. Prior to Destiny I got tired of the Halo series very quickly. By the end I pretty much had to force myself to play through it, just to get some sense of closure I guess. And during that time I've slowly learned that Bungie does in fact have a tendency to over-hype and under-deliver some aspects of their games. So maybe I've grown numb to that and instinctively lowered my expectations of Destiny. You make a lot of fair points about Destiny's launch content being pretty lackluster and stale. To some extent I actually agree with you. I just hope people give it a chance in the long run rather than give up this early on. I think if Bungie takes some of the criticism to heart and really throw their butt into gear with future content, the franchise can grow into be something that offers a very entertaining and rewarding experience. They've got a long road ahead to fill all the hype they've started, but personally I haven't given up quite yet.

Rare is just a manufactured gimmickry label in this case. How can you call legendary items in this game rare? All 6000000+ players will get legendary items. Now if their were only 50 - 100 of the same thing available. Then it would be truely rare. But when their in a shop like Vangaurds with endless supply. It can't be really rare. Maybe the exotic ones are rare but not the legendary items. Thers also no different cut scenes far as I can tell. I did start new characters and the storyline seems the same to me. So unless they change the storyline for each them replayability seems kinda bland too.

  • look I'm not asking for much I don't think. I just expect to feel like I'm always making progress in the game. But when I'm playing endless hours. And seeing no reward for it. I'm sorry but its a problem.

  • The problem is that there is more frustration than entertainment. When I have a better chance of getting a legendary item from a rare engram than from an actual legendary engram, and I have the same chance of getting a legendary engram from a level 4 shank as a level 24 captain something needs to be changed.

  • To be perfectly honest I don't even pay attention to the colors anymore. I pick up and decode every single engram I pick up, since either way it's going to increase my Cryptarch reputation and worst case scenario earn me glitter/parts from dismantling. The basic underlying mechanics of the system (regardless of coloration) remains the same in that it'll always be 100% randomized. I guess that's why I'm less frustrated by it.

  • I dont think I would call going over what I have seen in week 1 again and again for "years of entertainment". It would be different if I got access to new content as I slowly levelled up, say a new planet every 5 levels. But there is no long journey, after a week you will be able to visit and defeat anything but the raid. Sure you can up the difficulty, but that's not really new content, just handicapping yourself. The only progress you can look forward to is new gear, and that is acquired by basic grinding.

  • To put it bluntly: If you want to feel 100% completion by grinding away hours upon hours, then this isn't your type of game. This is why a lot of publishers are reluctant to bring "MMO style" games to console. You aren't entitled to super rare items just because you dump hundreds upon hundreds of hours into a game within the first week. These are items that are supposed to be granted to you throughout your lengthy journey in the game. Please don't take offense. This isn't a personal attack on you at all. I'm just saying you can't treat this as your typical single player one-off game where dumping countless hours instantly rewards you with everything. That's not how this game works. I for one am glad that Bungie went against the grain and gave console users a taste of MMO style gameplay. But I also saw these complaints coming from a mile away too, because lots of console players probably saw the Bungie name on it and expected a lengthier and bigger world version of Halo... which it wasn't (hence the bad reviews).

  • A real MMO has venders all over the place. And lots more places to explore with really cool side quest. Not boring do 6 patrol missions on Mars. This is by no means a Final Fantisy game with a better shooter macanics to it.

  • I enjoyed the -blam!-ing game and stopped worrying about getting legendary gear from drops and instead focused on how I could obtain legendaries from vendors. Do crucible bounties or vanguard hell put on the dead orbit or new monarchy class armor and work toward those factions. The gear will come, stop worrying about it. Also off topic me and my friends need more people for raids if anyone is interested.
