No Matchmaking for Endgame Raids? Buh Bye, Destiny....

Sorry, but this is the deal breaker for me and millions of others I've seen flaming this incredibly poor decision. First off, THIS IS NOT AN MMO. It lacks all the things you need to get a good judge of who you are raiding with as well and has no way to meet people. Second, even if I DID want to meet randoms, how can I? No public chat, no way to communicate at all, no way to do anything except "dance" or "wave". I've heard their lead developer "defend" this decision, as all out-of-touch executives do. "Our raids are so hard, you'll NEED 6 people that are friends blah blah blah". Sorry, but a "hard" raid doesn't always add up to an enjoyable experience. Are these raids harder than the legendary MMO raids that grouped strangers in raids for decades? Doubt it. And please stop making us sound like antisocial losers for wanting to try it with strangers. You guys at Bungie sound like an overbearing dungeon master in D&D and it's really poor form, especially since every Destiny forum is filled with "LFG" posts for VoG. Now, what you've done is put the nail in the coffin for 99% of your user base. I've been in love with this game up until yesterday, when I realized that even with my fancy legendary and exotic weapons, all I could do without 5 other "friends" was the same old lvl 24 strike for the millionth time. Not much fun. The same levels and the same bosses over and over just with higher levels? So much potential wasted by people who have no idea what people really want. 6/10 right now, just like to rest of the world is saying. Hoping for improvement. Great gameplay, but not much else to keep its hooks in you. Everything else looks like it was done by the MMO B Team. PvP needs work too, but that will come in time I'm sure. Gonna miss the game, but what's the point in playing when you are already grinding repetitively in the first week and there's no change on the horizon? ALSO, please explain to me how LFG posts on random forums are a batter way to do this than adding matchmaking? STILL random people. Not friends, just people without 5 active friends (just like me) who want to do the content. Silly if you ask me. UPDATE: So I took the advice of those saying "I have poor social skills in games" (let's ignore the irony in that for a second) and started adding random people that were good in Strikes, people I met, whatever. Added over 50 people in the past few days. And guess what? Maybe 5 of them are online at a time. Even in the clans I 'm in. And out of those 5, maybe ONE will answer when I send a message to raid. Maybe. With no social tools, no public chat, no clan management, and these "incredibly hard raids" that Bungie seems to be SO proud of, they've essentially pissed off many people instead of making this fun for anyone. First off, what is the point of making a raid THAT hard? Does it make your developer epeen stiffen up to see people wipe 1,600 times? Pandemonium was like that in FFXI and it was a laughing stock. Nobody liked it. And second, where is the other content for those of us who don't have 15+ hours to raid per week? There are no other dungeons/raids besides the ones on repeat in strikes. Boring. Even WoW had at least a half dozen random dungeons you could so between levels 40-60 at launch. They also had numerous mobs instead of 4 factions with 4 different mobs in each. I'm now level 27. More than adequately geared for a raid. Strikes are the most mundane thing ever now, since I've done them so many times. I've farmed for legendary engrams, I've gotten rep up with several factions. I've got some exotic weapons (though none of them are that great outside of pvp - shotguns, etc.). I'm literally pretty much out of stuff to do and it's only been a week. Yes, I play a lot, but come on. There should be at least something to do other than grind. Aside from Ascendant Shards, there's not much more I need to increase my gear anyway. And where's my motivation to increase it when I can easily kill everything EXCEPT what's in the raid which I can't find people for? Also, Bungie, if you're going to be this obtuse about our player abilities, then at least add some sort of clan management system in game. Why does the game with the biggest budget ever still have us posting "LFG for VoG": on random forums? Why do we need to leave game to even see what our own clan is doing? And why are we supposed to get hyped about the next xpac when we can't even enjoy this one? I bet maybe 1% of the player pop has even tried VoG. Nobody wants to even give it a shot now because it's so hard. I'm sure I'll continue to get flamed on this post by kids younger than some of the dents in my car, but the fact remains that this game, although an epic achievement, has missed the mark entirely on what it needs to keep people involved for more than a month. Sure, it's a new game, but the old "new games are always lacking, buggy, etc." argument is no longer valid. Only in the gaming industry is this acceptable and it needs to stop. You have $500,000,000 invested in this. Surely you could have taken .0001% of that to hire decent writers and some immersion? Wishful thinking I guess... I really hope a Bungie dev reads this and takes it to heart, but they won't. So, I guess I'll just hold my breath in the hopes that they are aware of how unhappy everyone is and do something about it. I love this game and I see so much potential in it. But for god's sake, PLEASE stop trying to reinvent the wheel at every turn. Some things just work. Leave them be and put more effort into decent writing and immersion. This game will never live up to its potential without it.

    • I'll forget for a second all the other reasons I fundamentally disagree with you (and everyone else whining about this) and pose one question to you: how are they supposed to implement matchmaking for something that saves progress. The people saying "they don't need to save progress for matchmaking, then" clearly don't understand why the progress is being saved you begin with; hint, it's not so your don't have to stay over the next time you do it, it's to limit the speed at which people can acquire end game gear, which also has the intended side effect of prolonging content. Furthermore, how are they supposed to match people together that are at various points in the raid? Is everyone going to be ok with constantly getting set back to the first encounter due to the least common denominator? I doubt it. What I see is a lot of people that bought a game that clearly isn't for them, and it's no one's fault but your own for not reading more on it in advance. All this info was available before launch.

      • Here's what they should do, make a pre-raid lobby. Like a lobby room. And all the people looking for a raid group go there. Mics are enabled there so you can talk to people to set up a group. Something along the lines of this would work good I think.... Just gotta work out a few bugs like everyone talking at once.

        • So yesterday I went outside to the vault of glass just To check it out, whn I got there a group was attempting to open the door, after a minute of helping them I got a party invite and fireteam invite. We never completed the event but we were able to party up and get a time as to when people will be on next to try. It's not that hard to find people, and if there is any aspect to this game that is MMO like it is this. If you've seen the raid you will know you do not want to go in with a full of randoms who you don't know if will be ragequiting after 1 wipe.

I've said the same thing in other posts about Raids. Ppl will go on the forums to find ppl to Raid with. And that is barely different than mm. What we really need is a board. So ppl can ask for classes they are looking for. We need that for Raids and Weekly Strikes. Or Bungie can add mm to Weekly Strikes. Idk why the didn't, but added it to normal Strikes...

Yeah no match making for raiding is a huge issue for me, I also believe that the Dungeons and Raids are WAY to difficult and dont feel tuned at all for the common/casual players to enjoy especially if bungie wants them to stick around for the long term, perhaps I am just the minority on this but I have found no fun with the dungeons even being several levels ahead and with a team of friends. I believe in having some challenge but over all I would rather see dungeons and raids be more casual friendly on the normal level diff and leave the Hard/Heroic modes for the gamers that seek the hardcore painful rewarding game play. I just get sick of bungie telling us that the level cap is just the beginning but if the casual/normal players that don't have huge 6 man clans or a team of skilled friends how are we expected to do the end game which is apparently all this content bungie claims we have? I worry once I level cap I will have not much to do other then grind out gear for a raid I wont be able to get into.

                  • I love this game, but everything you've posted is true. I only love it because the gunplay is so spot on, and collecting different exotics is what will keep me playing for awhile. I would absolutely love to raid, but I will not use outside-of-the-game methods of finding a group. If it were matchmaking I'd be all over it, but as a 30+ I have neither the time nor the desire to go searching on forums for a bunch of kids to do a raid with. You will find many who disagree on this forum, because the people who use the forum on average are the ones who fancy themselves elite. Elitists who will do anything to keep their boot on the throat of more casual players. I see this same song and dance in every single game I've ever played. One game stands out that it happens to a lesser extent, that's WoW, and guess who has the lion's share of MMO players. Right, WoW, the game that at least half way caters to more casual players. If a game wants to make money and stay relevant it can not do so by catering to the top 5% of players. Simply won't work. I hope they fire whomever is making these horrible decisions and get some young, fresh blood in the office before it's too late.

                      • Um losing its player base...I doubt it. You see millions of people saying they agree with you....I doubt. Does destiny need "some" form of communication.....yes. Hey battlefield learned their lesson and they added squads. Supportive voicing of your request im sure os welcome but these idle threats of leaving the game gets no where. Either way they made money off you cause your trade in will not be what you paid for it. Stop threats man its just tacky.

                      • Just a thought, Random People with little to no communication would be doomed if they were just stuck in Vault of Glass together. Like Hardcore screwed. You need people you're regularly play with and are comfortable with each others play styles. IMO best raid difficulty I've seen in a very long time.

I'm not saying I'm done playing if they don't include matchmaking. They should include it though. Christ Bungie, just add it already. Make it an option for the players that want it.

                      • Sorry you don't have 5 other friends to raid with , bungie never said this was a mmo not once ever , and your not even geared up to do the raid , I'm sorry you lack the personality to meet people online and form static play groups , and raiding with randoms in mmo titles often results in a full party wipe , hence the reason bungie wanted people to form static groups for raids and not have a lobby full of under geared people trying to do something they can't do

Mr top notch and all the other crybabies who are mad about LOOT systems and bounties and other bad luck that happens to them. I get bad luck too but I look at this as a challenge. Bungie is saying " we will put you in a world that isn't perfect for you, now succeed in it but be careful, this is nothing you've ever played before" and that's just it, " you've never played before" this isn't an mmo citizens of wow, this is destiny, the revolution and the answer to over achievers like you. I played that RAID with five other friend thinking we was going to fight through it without a problem. Boy was I wrong! We couldn't get through the door. We all met the requirements but to no success. We vouch to tackle it again this saturday with the same team, same leader, but different mindset. So if feel like you should leave than by all means. Quiters quit when things aren't going their way

Better story and communication/grouping with other players was a complete must and they done botched this thing up but good.

                            • I completely agree with the OP. The random matchmaking needs to be implemented for all the missions like heroics and raids. To the try hards out there keep in mind that random matchmaking doesn't come in place if you are already in a party, so think before you speak... If you don't want to be randomly matched then make your own party before starting the raid or strike. It's a choice that the players should be able to make. The future of Destiny to become either the next big thing or just a hype to fade away depends on being able to target and cater to the entire community and not just to the try hard buddy-buddy system. The community includes a lot of casual and role players, some people are just too busy to maintain clan obligations, or have a PSN/Microsoft social life, or to match times with the friends and so on, some people are disabled, there all ages and it's universal where people are speaking different languages and in different time zones etc. Bungie should be listening to all customers feedback and the key is not to force anything on the players but to implement options to keep as many players as possible happy. There should be options for hardcore gamers as well as casual gamers and everyone else. Options like random matchmaking, in game chat and party, options for disabled people and language barriers otherwise denying services will eventually limit their player base.

                              • Bye! No it does NOT need matchmaking, it's fine. What we do need is a proper communication system that makes it easier to get to know people. If you want to raid, you have to find people to do so, that's how it works. And if you don't want to do that, you just accept that you're not gonna be able to raid, simple eh? If you want matchmaking go play World of Warcraft, that game is ruined already by it (dungeon finder, raid finder, etc). I will copy and paste this comment in every single match-making thread, don't blame me for it.
