Ruminations on User Interface / Mouse Pointer Interface vs. Digital Controller select type interface
So, I've been playing Destiny since Alpha and had a so far so good time leveling up for the third time since Alpha with a Hunter.
There's enough feedback on here already on several game aspects, but I didn't quite see this one yet:
anyone else feels the UI is a bit "off" especially in "map mode"?
What I mean is: I am using a controller, not a mouse, so there surely is a snappier way to go to a location or start a mission than:
Set Destination > Choose a destination on the star map > see destination on your screen with ship floating > click "launch" > in case you see the ship floating around too long without going in to a "warp like loading tunnel" you actually forgot to click "Launch". ;-)
Is it just me that loathes moving my pointer needlessly across the screen & clicking "LAUNCH" all the time to actually GO places you just meticulously selected with your really slow "feels like a mouse pointer type reticle control"?
Yes, must be me! Right? Right.
If it were me designing that UI part, I'd use a mix of digi pad quick selection, jumping through available items, up & down for selecting items - right & left for changing an item option in case there are options, like on difficulty settings. That's the option for people who like to make things snappy.
For all the other guys who prefer driving around with a pointer type control, leave the alternative in as is for analog stick control with that round and very very slow pointer.
Why force analog all the way on us like this, Bungie?
Just saying I've seen way better UI done for controller/console based gaming than ... what is in here so far.
