I remembered why I started playing video games, it was a way to escape into a fantasy world for hours on end that provided entertainment and just fun. These days, it seems like everyone has forgotten what the simple purpose of video games are; Destiny being no exception. It seems whether it's PVP or even PVE; players have gotten so serious about playing. Now don't get me wrong, when engaging an enemy, of course everyone wants to win, but even if you lose, it should have been fun just to try, especially when facing off an enemy with allies at your side. Sigh...maybe I am just sentimental and I probably will get heat for this post, but....I really want to know....do any of you players...just play to have fun...win or lose...just the adventure itself makes you happy?
Hi everyone, first off I would just like to thank all of you for commenting on the post. Even if you have different opinions, it's absolutely fine because you are more than entitled to it. I was just happy to read that so many of you still believe in the basic fundamentals of fun, and even though some of you have carved out your own definitions of the word and what it means to you, I sincerely hope that you truly enjoy your gaming experiences, whether its with Destiny or any other game you might play. Thank you for reading, and SHINE ON ;)

Thats why i probably wont be raiding. If i had enough friends we could do it together and if we lose or if someone messes up, we just laugh it off. I cant do that with random people on the forums.

I play for fun
-
Destiny is a casual game though.
-
Your speaking about Mario, Mass Effect , Skirym or any other 1P game with a fantastic history ....., not about a Competitive PvP Game man .... and you can "scape" into destiny , but not into pvp mode.
-
Man I was playing PvP just last night getting my butt handed to me. And when it was all said and done my k d ratio was 0.63. I thought to myself man this is a fun game. I find myself just having fun with this game

People have different versions of fun. Some people don't consider just playing as a sufficient source of fun. Just because you're content with just playing doesn't mean most everybody will be, especially in a competitive game such as Destiny. Now if I'm playing Mario or a single player game sure, I'll be perfectly fine just playing. But if you stick me in a pvp situation then I HAVE to do well in order to have fun
-
I get what you mean. I do find myself getting really angry about losing but its mostly because you put in so much effort to win but the team just doesn't bring anything to the table so it sucks. Its mostly anger stemming from random teammates who can't keep up I guess? I hope I'm not coming off as cocky but I hope you get what I mean. But I do get it too, you know. If you're just behind on your game, sometimes I do just have terrible games. So its just a balance I guess. Most of this is based on Halo but on Destiny, I'm more lenient cause PvP here is hella fun.

Edited by Nighthawk: 9/15/2014 8:13:04 PMthis reminds me of last few years of the word going around that "games are too easy". Never ending revolving door.

Unfortunately for many, sadly, videogames are not just an escape, they are life.
-
I like to play Destiny for the fun but when I go into Crucibles, I can't help but get a little competitive and rage like a little b*tch :P

Welcome to multiplayer.

No! I have to scrutinize EVERY square inch of EVERY map and point out all of the flaws! If someone kills me, they're either hackers or their equipment is OP. If I'm not winning, I'm calling in the SWAT teams on the victors. THIS IS WAR!!!
Just kidding. I hope everyone could tell.
I only ever play for fun. If I find myself getting angry playing I just call it quits for the night. There are plenty of things to take seriously and get angry about in life video games are not one of them.

This game is fun usually, mainly when I am with friends, but tends to get old quickly. I've played for 40 something hours at this point and have experienced everything content wise (not including 26+ or more difficult versions of the same content) in the game, except the raid. It will probably keep me entertained for a while... but replaying the same content over and over typically isn't that fun for me, even if more difficult. This game is in a weird limbo where it has a ton of content as a shooter and a severe lack of content as an MMO. And since I am an experienced player of both... it is sways back and forth as being fun and engaging, to me.

Our hearts share the same sentiment.

Very true..... more recently I've noticed that the games I enjoy the most are those I am not a member of a community for...... except Dust 514..... CCP -blam!-ed its loyal Console beta testers over and off loaded the continuity of plot and themes to Shanghai where New Eden was bastardised into a lobby shooter and not even remotely relevant to EVE players.

Edited by Ghost: 9/15/2014 9:01:12 PMI play for fun. Really, I play for the same reason I read a good book. I want to escape into that world, leaving all the problems of this one for the time I play, explore a new world, fight for the beliefs of a choose faction. Leave all your real world beliefs and problems when your press that start button. No better way to play.
great stress reliever too, and played in moderation as well
I’m not good enough to play any other way. Do my best and play to have fun.
-
People stopped playing for fun around the time game tournaments could earn them 10k and up, and finding out one could make money by having subscribers to their twitch and youtube accounts.
-
I am as breezy as they come and only play for fun. #unless
-
While I agree, and also play for fum, the game has to help me to have fun too. A cool reward every once in a while definitely makes the game more fun.
-
Taking it serious and wrecking it is what is fun for me. If that's not happening I'm not having fun.
-
I agree wholeheartedly. Games are called games because games aren't serious. They're meant to be fun. If you're not having fun go play something else that is fun to you. There's so much griping going on you'd think this was the worst game ever. I'm having great fun playing this and so are others. We've got some big mouths in here saying a lot without much substance. Boohoo, you lose all the time in Crucible. Try harder, stop taking it so seriously, and if it's really that bad, well, no one's forcing you to play. Dang, man. Let's all take a chill pill.

"'Fun"? never heard.
