  • I like the game, but I can understand the reviews. Meh story. Repetative missions. (Wait at the door while waves on enemies come, somehow the robot always finished right as the final wave is cleared. Smaller than advertised world. Endgame grind. RNG heavy.

    • Wall of text below: The low reviews are because Destiny is a mediocre game. A lot of people rode the hype train sky high and it crashed, and others fell prey to the false advertising of the game. I didn't ride the hype train, but to me it's still mediocre. The worst aspect of the game is the story by far, it's absolutely terrible, especially for a Bungie game. The mission with the Sword of Crota was the only unique mission in the game. If they add additional DLC for the story, that's even worse because it tells me they purposefully shipped an incomplete game to make a few extra bucks. DLC for the main story in console is unforgivable. The game was also really easy. I was completing missions on Mars as level 14 without breaking a sweat. I've been clearing the Heroic missions solo easily. The only hard thing in the game are the heroic strikes, and I imagine those are easy once I reach the recommended level. I can't speak for the raids yet. Crucible isn't competitive. Unbalanced reward system, unbalanced starts and stats, no private matches will keep it from ever being competitive. One of the things that pissed me off was how blatantly Bungie ripped off their AI system from Halo. The Fallen moved and reacted exactly like Elites, Cabal like Brutes, Cabal Paladin like Jackals. The Hive moved like Elites as well, except they didn't charge as often. The only unique AI was the Vex. The Interceptor was a re-skinned Chopper and the Pike a re-skinned Ghost. The fact the game was marketed as social but is nowhere near it. Basically the game is nothing but a grind for gear fest. For all their talk of the game starting at level 20, there isn't anything to keep players playing other than raids and PvP. If you were going to try to incorporate MMO aspects, you could at least incorporate one of the most important aspects of an MMO: a deep, enticing story. It's a mediocre game, but mediocre for a game advertised this much and in development for this long from a company with such a great track record is very bad.

      • Because the fine people at Polygon kept having the mentality that Destiny is an MMO.

      • Because people hyped it up to the point where it could only be a massive disappointment to them... A common occurrence in todays gaming world. |Go into games with low expectations/hype you WILL have way more fun and like the game more than people who hype stuff beyond what it can achieve. Destiny Titanfall and watch dogs have all suffered from TOO much hype that people have for them. The annoying this that they arent bad games at all they are good maybe except watchdogs which is average but Titanfall and destiny are fantastic FPS games in comparison to cod/Battlefield

      • Don't get me wrong its an awesome game however, it has done nothing to re-invent the fps genre. The multi-playing aspect is mediocre at best and its not doing anything that every other fps has done before it. I think on a ten point scale its an 8

Critics usually play only for a short time and judge based on their limited experience with the game. Reviews are biased to a fault, because of bad extrapolation and mean jack shit. Games like Destiny, only really start at max level, they have taken this from MMO space. Most if not all critics never reach that far. If you want to find out if a game is for you, you research, watch vids, read articles and yes also reviews, but they are only a small bit of info and taken for what they are, someone's opinion, someone who most likely has not reached the levels at which the game performs at its best. EDIT: Oh yeah, almost forgot :): I enjoy playing Destiny, it is, in my opinion, a good, fun game, which so far has fitted most of my gaming moods. Is it perfect? No, no game will ever be, unless I could build it and even then it probably wouldn't be. Perfection can be strived for, but never reached, because there will always be another level to it. I do see myself play Destiny for quite some time though. I'd give it an 8/10 at the moment.

        • I love it. Lv 22 myself and not bored. Only thing I would add is more depth to the story... But then again it's a 10 year thing... Plenty of time to explore the depths of story. Just looking forward to more content via DLC... Missions, story... A new enemy? Different locations... They could go anywhere in the universe they've created.

          • The hype made from Activision (surprise surprise...) and due to the fact that console gamers generally don't understand MMOs in general nor the hybrid versions... No offense.

          • TBH critics are as likely to have a view we like as other players, are mean really if you think about it that's all they are, other players, those who perfer something else will not review it the same way you will, it's logic

          • Wish matchmaking and voice communication was a little better because unless you have friends on you're kinda stuck in Crucible, but other than that I love the game. 8/10

            • I think the two biggest beefs: story is confused and somewhat convoluted. Missions are too similar; very little variety. Enjoying the game, but its not a masterpiece or anything

                • Well Its to short for this mantra of its an MMO all the MMO's I have played have a pretty good story and is not something that is maxed leveled within the first few days of playing it. Just for example go play dc universe final fantasy or the Star wars knight of the old Republic. Its a mix of borderlands and halo sounds great but forcing PvP on players is crazy. I had high hopes not for the PvP but for the strikes loved them in the beta and in the game but can only do them so much same monster same maps do a random spawn monster or random map changes. I have seen people call it something like Diablo 3 I have that game also and If they go head to head I would pick Diablo 3 hands down they fixed the repeative maps and story by adding adventure mode and Rifts that spawn a group of random maps and a ton more end bosses than destiny and will prob still have it beat with the next two DLc's. What could of saved the game? Well Would of cut some of the voice actors so you could put the first two Dlc with the game from launch making the game have more size Randomize the strikes a bit. Cut some of the loading screens, space combat with the space ships upgrades for ships that matter and are visual. increase the lvl cap dont stop lvling players keeping the grind for better weapons is good wouldnt mind it if they had some variety to maps. As for the PvP it is just all over the place sometimes pretty sure connection wise its screwy at times but havent played much so my opinion is voided by those with more experienced PvP players. Maybe eventually the game will be a lil more enjoyable by changing up the reapatative natural of the maps and bosses add more enemy types to each class and come up with some more bosses and i would be happy. Power ups to help players that are having trouble with a strike after dieing so many times you help Players in PvP matches with a boost so why not strikes. As much as I love the idea of forcing players to find Fireteam members for high lvl missions why not force a player to have a mic to have match making. This would help with some of the backlash you are getting from people not being able to find others playing. I would give the game a 7 or 8 out of ten just for its Potential alone. I am not happy about the way the game is now but I guess will see in time what happens. few games for next gen consoles and none right now that has the mode like strike if only they port borderlands over then move over destiny for what i want you for you would of been replaced. As for Battle field well I would say that is a 10 but that me bc i love playing the game new experience each time you jump in but bc of the crashes and horrible launch and consistent hiccups it would be a 7 or 8 also. Cod ghost -Not a fan at all solid 7 just bc the visuals in the story and coming up with aliens. But thats off topic a bit and congrats on at least having the guts to make something that is semi original just keep tweaking and maybe it will come around.

                    • i like it. i would give it a 7 because it does everything (pvp, pve, the world) ok, not even close to the best but not the worse. i like the game but dont see it lasting a whole year unless bungie can really improve things

                    • Dude I just reached 21 as well and I'm super excited. I don't know why but it felt good to see that 21 I'm really digging this game too. The only thing I'm worried about with all of the negativity is that I won't get anymore Destiny. Damn I love this game.

                    • I don't think that Destiny is getting reviewed with the same mentality as something like Diablo 3 or SWTOR. These games got great scores and share the same "negatives" - lacking story, repetition, grinding, ect... This game is basically Diablo 3 with Halo combat... I can't see many flaws minus some social issues that can be fixed soon. (no chat, poor matchmaking, lack of ease in joining fire-teams) Even in the realm of Call of Duty or Battlefield games, the campaigns for those are abysmal and extremely short. The main experience of these games is playing the same handful of maps a thousand times while everyone slowly gains xp towards the same weapons and perks... Destiny has that in the crucible alone and everyone works towards their own unique gear. Plus if people give Bungie time to deliver on their promise of an evolving world then this game will be even better. I feel like our initial Destiny experience will be basically a tutorial to a bigger world. They should really have included the Grimoire information in the game because obviously most people are no going to seek it out., although I myself have and it is very informative. Currently I would give this game a 7.5-8.0 easily and I believe by the end of the year, IF the community is still playing, it can go to a 9.0

It's the hipster thing to do. The same sites that have been hyping the game as the second coming are the same that are shitting on. . . even though they have been playing it various times throughout development. They are the same sites that think Ghosts and BF4 are an 8 or 9. They are worthless.
