I suppose a thing for me would be more stuff to find. Valuable crystals, old relics, letters, mini games.
And golden age or enemy terminals would be awesome. Maybe something like ODST, cool little stories to piece together.

I would really like some audio recordings scattered about from guardians and pre-collapse earth, it would make the lore so much more easier to digest and far more accessible to players.

That's a great idea, and has been used as far back as the CD-ROM version of System Shock. Plenty of awesome games use that technique, including Bioshock and Borderlands 1 & 2, just off the top of my head.

Bungie already did it before too, in ODST.
