I'm the network manager at a university in Louisiana. I've already tried opening the ports listed on http://www.bungie.net/en/Help/Article/11930 temporarily. The student I've been going back and forth with over email was still not able to play. I don't think it's a port issue.

  • Damn then what do you think the problem is?

  • Like some other IT departments are pointing out, I think it's because Destiny is using P2P protocols to connect, which most colleges block due to piracy. I turned off our P2P block completely temporarily, and the student was able to play the game. So that's most likely the cause. I'm hoping Bungie can change the way players connect through the game. Don't mean to sound like a jerk about it, and I'm sure I speak for other universities when I say this, but we can't open P2P just to allow access to a game.
