Ohio Northern University here, below is an email I got ahold of from our IT department to any interested in reading.
"Right now we do not have the resources to work on this issue. The ticket may be reexamined later in the year after the high priority tickets are completed.
The firewall blocks incoming connection attempts only. Applications such as games that don't work due to the firewall are likely attempting to publish services to, and accept unlimited connections from, the entire Internet. That is not allowed.
Our Procera device blocks, via heuristics, a variety of protocols typically used in file sharing applications that would flood the network with large amounts of non-academic, non-business traffic and crowd out other users. Applications such as games that don't work may also be attempting to leverage such protocols. That is not allowed."

The Procera software can be patched to allow for this sort of thing. That is the very software we use.

Could you link the specific patch? I might be able to push it through to our IT department.
-
The patch is to be released on Monday night. I'll try to get additional information tomorrow.

Sent you a message with my email. Any help would be great! We are not trying to ignore student requests but cannot afford to dedicate resources to a video game when there are academic needs that require our attention, especially when other universities are having the same issues.
