The Centipede and Your University.

Hey, Bungie Community. Day One of Destiny is behind us. We’re still hard at work to make sure all of you have a great experience. Thanks in part to chatter on our forums, we’re aware of some networking issues being experienced on college and university campuses. Our team is engaged in diagnosing the cause, but you might also be able to help. Members of the Bungie team will be contacting some of you directly to troubleshoot. Keep an eye on your Bungie.net inbox to see if you’ve been drafted as a test subject. If you don’t hear from us, we still love you and we’re still working to get you into orbit. Please continue to report any issues you experience on this forum. Watch this space for updates. UPDATE 1.0: We’re making progress toward a solution to the university network issue. A potential cause are security devices that don’t recognize Destiny network traffic. We’re in touch with the manufacturers of these devices to create an update that we hope will enable you to play. Stay tuned as work on this continues. In the meantime, it might be a good idea to learn the contact information for your network administrator. Stand by! UPDATE 2.0: We have isolated the issue and are working with security device manufacturers to release a fix this coming Monday, September 15th. Affected universities will need to apply the patch from the security device vendor to fix the problem. Once the patch is released, we’ll add details to this thread that you can forward to your network administrators. Stand by, be brave, and have a nice weekend. [b]UPDATE 3.0: We have determined the cause at the root of most of the issues being encountered on university campuses. We have been in touch with network admins at most of the universities listed on this forum (thanks again for helping us help you). In summary, there are network security devices that have been incorrectly identifying Destiny traffic as a bit-torrent. We have also reached out the manufacturers of the security devices in question. They've been awesome, and have released an update that will allow you to play on a network protected by their hardware. That update will need to be applied by your local network administrators, assuming they have not done this already.[/b] If you would like to put us in touch with the people in charge of your network, tell them to email us at universitynetworks@bungie.com, or provide us with their contact information. Do not post it here! We'll be working to solve every issue that blocks a Guardian from the Tower. Keep posting on this forum.

  • I'm on a home network. I played the beta without any issues. I've now had the game since launch and can't play for more than a few minutes without getting kicked off. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

      • I was at the end of the moon strike and was disconnected from the server. Any advice on how to get started on a refund?I have been interrupted 4 times in 3 days during a grind for loot. Phuck u bungie!

      • Caterpillar error code is pretty big too. And I get random server disconnects. Not my internet cause every other game does fine.

        • I cannot connect at all to any server. I get to my charachter selection page then when I try to login as such, the loading screen is all i can see

          I can get past the centipede error after a few attempts, but then I keep getting the coconut error after selecting a character. Also on university internet.

          • Got the most stupid response from Microsoft support when requesting a reimbursement for the low quality of the game, "The game is working fine, it loads and doesn't crash if the servers are not working that is not our problem". I accepted that a year ago with Ghosts since it had a SINGLE PLAYER offline game mode but for this game that is not acceptable and we should get our money back, perhaps actually proceeding legally will aid in at least getting some money back for all the downtime and time lost of so many people.

            • To the people that have been in contact with bungie about their connection issue: While you demand to have that issue fixed, do us another favor and tell bungie that this game is useless without communication. The game had no communication ability unless your playing with a premade fire team with your own friends. The ONLY social aspect of this game is you see other players in the tower or occasionally in the game world, but other than that there is no social ability. Please tell them to add some communications to the game before the player base diminishes to nothing. I'm sorry you guys have these connection issues, but your also the only group of people getting any response from bungie, so please, tell them to do this before the game goes down the drain before it's first dlc even gets released

              • Anyone at Kansas State Univeristy? Having the centipede error here too. Nothing has been fixed quite yet. I'm hoping they get a solution before the events. If anyone attends KSU and have heard anything please let me know!! I'm on PS4 and XBOX1

                  It's incredibly frustrating to have pre-ordered the d.g.e. only to have the add-ons not install correctly several times over, and then not even be able to play the game due to "networking issues". I keep getting bee, sometimes lion, but my router is set up for port forwarding for Destiny and the PS4. Even plugging my internet directly into my PS4, no router, doesn't resolve the issue; sometimes I can play a mission, but usually not I get "bee" every time. This is very disappointing!! I took part in both the alpha and beta with no problems, and was SOO looking forward to tearing up the frontier and finding legendary and exotic gear, but I cannot even play through a full mission without a disconnect. I JUST WANT TO PLAY :)!!! Please help Bungie!!!

                  • I am getting error code marionberry, which basically says my network is poor but when I test it is fine. I am on campus at Monroe Community College and would greatly appreciate assistance.

                    • I played all night at midnight when game was released, I played yesterday after work. Today I got the bee error code and I get booted off every 5-10 minutes regardless what im doing. so maybe there is also an in game bug because If I was having security devices issue I wouldn't have been able to play at all.

                        So here's the problem I'm having. I got the game yesterday and it worked just fine. I got some lag in PvP and disconnected once or twice, but that's it. Today, I can play for 5 minutes up to about 30-45 minutes before I get disconnected. I get Centipede, Baboon, Bee, Giraffe, and pretty much every other code you can imagine. Like others, this is the only game that does this. The internet isn't great, but it's usually good enough that other games are playable. Don't know if it's related to this or not since it worked fine yesterday, but I'm really hoping you guys can get this figured out soon. Oh, and I'm on 360 if that matters.

                        • Well I've been constantly disconnecting from servers from your end now i think i'm banned because its restricting my ability to play. I hope you guys fix the server issues on the Xbox one that for some reason carried on from the beta.

                        • getting canary and viper error codes, DC every 5 minutes or so. Xbox One, be nice to play the game I pre ordered. My son is playing it fine on his with no issues. I am currently hard wired and still getting the errors

                          • This is wonderful news. I have been tweeting to you guys non stop in hopes of getting through. I've been so unbelievably excited for Destiny over the past months and it was just the worst to find out that I couldn't play after trying to log in on day 2. I attend the University of Mississippi and would love to help with anything that is needed. I have continuously gotten the "Centipede" error, however it wasn't that way on Day 1, which confused me the most. I'm so excited to be able to play again, I hope that you guys get this done soon! Can't wait to see this fixed.
