Why do people still drink alcohol and do drugs in this day and age?
I can get drinking alcohol in the 20th century, we weren't nearly as collectively intelligent back then. But why do people these days, and kids especially, insist on wasting their lives by doing drugs and alcohol?? For Christ's sakes, people are actually pushing for marijuana to be legalized on a federal scale! (not even going to bring up that total failure of the legal system in Colorado and Washington) Our society is just getting more and more corrupt as these dangerous chemicals are getting accepted. I remember when you couldn't even get a job if you smoked marijuana.
If you do any kind of drug or drink booze regularly, you're an idiot. I get messing up every now and then, but it shouldn't be a lifestyle. And if you're addicted, please go to a rehab clinic and get help. People like you are only holding our country back.

3 RepliesThe idea that humanity is somehow more "collectively intelligent" is.... amusing. We're still the same species and have not changed drastically over thousands of years, let alone a few decades. There is more information out there, we can access it more easily than previous generations, but I don't believe that we are any smarter, intelligent or wiser than our predecessors. We just have a different situation than they did.

Maybe it is you that is becoming aware of what has always went on, instead of "this day and age" being different.

Maybe you should actually research the pros of Marijuana legalization and look into what good legalization has done for Colorado and Washington. I've visited Colorado many times in the past two years for unrelated reasons and it is a state just as normal as the next. The sky hasn't fallen, the zombie apocalypse hasn't happened, there isn't some huge population of stoners wanerding thr streets not doing shit but eating cheetos... lol

5 RepliesThis is very easy to answer. We have become a society that has created a set boundaries of how people should be. Because of this we have placed restraints on the more fringe type personalities. Energetic people are labeled behavioral and ADHD. While quiet types are labeled introverted, depressive or some type of anxiety. They are then force fed drugs at an early age, which creates this idea that consumption of things is a proper coping mechanism. So instead of healthy functioning adults we have adults who depend on a drug, or another substance to help them cope with day to day life. It is quite sad really.

While your intentions are golden, your persuasion is weak, moderation of the lesser drugs (marijuana; alcohol) won't lead to any rapid deficit of one's intelligence. People who use "hard" drugs is where I do agree with you, as I've seen first hand what happens to those who use them.
