What my IT guy told me The problem here is with the request for port 3074 - if that inbound port is required for every console to connect, we could only theoretically open that port for one person per public IP. That would mean only a handful of people on campus would ever be able to play, and everyone else would have the same issue. I think this is only to ensure a NAT type of open/type 1, which should not be necessary to simply connect to the server. Since so many other games work on XBL/PSN without any port forwarding it definitely seems like Bungie is going to have to work this out.
