Hi,
I had this exact same issue when I had the beta and was unable to play it. As soon as I press X on the main screen i get the following message "Attention: You must be connected to Xbox Live in order to play Destiny" I am connected to Xbox live and even ran all the tests, NAT is open. Fair enough its not the fastest (according to Xbox test 3mb down 0.6 up) but I only want to play it on single player.
Can someone please help?

1 ReplyYou might try signing out of your profile and signing back in while at the title screen, It worked for me.

Always check xbox.com/status too. Right now (2/20/2016 17:37 Eastern), it's experiencing issues.

6 RepliesIf you actually physically unplug your console it will do a reset of your network settings. That fix worked for me, just be sure your console is off before you kill the power. When you unplug you will hear a little squeek, which is normal. Good luck! SK

2 RepliesSOLUTION 1. Turn off your console. 2. Wait 30 Seconds. 3. Unplug the power from the back of console. 4. Wait 30 Seconds. 5. Replug, turn on. 6. Profit??? A simple hard boot will not work.

Same problem. Excellent connection, every other game, Netflix, Hulu, all work fine. I've rebooted, unplugged, to no avail.

10 RepliesI'm having this same issue right now out of the blue. Have never had this problem before. I've logged out and back in several times with the same outcome every time. I don't understand how a game that has been out for so long, can have as many issues as Destiny does. I keep getting the message 'You must be connected to Xbox Live in order to play Destiny'. Power cycled Xbox modem and router. Tried the signing out and signing in. Same problem.

1 ReplyWhat I found is that even though I was signed in and everything worked (well, except for Destiny) I still had to sign out of XBL and then back in. That resolved this problem for me.
