So we can transfer our progress and characters from PS3 to PS4 or 360 to Xbox One, which is pretty rad. I was just wondering what the technical hitch is that prevents me transfering from PS4 to Xbox One or 360 to PS4?
Presumably if I can go between PS3 and PS4, my profile is stored on a Bungie/Acti server somewhere and that allows it to move between platforms? Because it's not as if the PS3 and PS4 are similar in architecture any more than the 360 and PS4 are.
I have some friends playing on Xbox One that I want to play with and similarly I have some on PS4 that I want to play with. I'm buying the game on both formats, but it's a shame that I'll have to have two separate progress profiles for the two platforms.
I'd hoped when new B.net launched and we were able to link all our accounts here that we may get some sort of unified account that you could tap into from any console and access my characters and progress. Has this ever been suggested in an update or anything?
Ninja Edit
Hello OP (or anyone who has decided to open the spoiler and read all of this).
I'm one of the Bungie.Net Ninjas. We may have met before, we may have interacted, you might have heard of us, or you may have no clue as to who we are and what we do. Well, this little note is to explain some of the things we do. One of the major roles we play is to handle the reports that come in whenever a member clicks on the "Report" button, to let us know that there is a post, a topic or a user that either doesn't understand or isn't following the rules that we all agreed to follow when we joined. But that's not the Ninja function that brought on this note.
The reason I am writing this is because I have retagged your thread. Bungie.Net uses hashtags to designate their major forums and to help keep things organized. Your OP (original post) was opened, created or given a hashtag that well, wasn't the best choice. It could have been that you were browsing through the various forum/tags that are available on the site or app, and clicked on "New Topic" while in a forum that didn't "match up" with the subject matter of your OP. Or, you may have thought "this belongs here", when unfortunately, it doesn't.
That's another role of the Bungie.Net Ninjas. We not only try to keep things fun, pleasant and welcoming here by removing rule-breakers, but we also want EVERY good topic to have the best chance to survive, thrive, find the right audience, and get lots of on-topic replies. And so, I have retagged your topic to move it to the forum where it has the best chance of doing that.
I give you my word that I have not altered a single letter or character of your Original Post, just placed this message below it and set the tag to better describe your topic. You may notice that you are unable to edit this post anymore. That is a part of the system, and I apologize for any inconvenience that it may have caused. I've not replied or commented on your OP, since this message would most likely be "off-topic" to your thread and when members see a Ninja or Mentor (who are volunteers from the community) or even a Bungie employee post, they tend to go a little crazy and the disruption to the thread becomes a distraction. I don't want that to happen to your thread. I want it to be in the BEST place possible, to be seen by the largest audience who is looking for this sort of topic, I want it to take root, get replies, grow strong and make these forums a better place.
If you have any questions, you should feel free to PM me. My name is now in the upper right corner of your OP where it says "edited by".
Thanks for your patience, thanks for being a part of this community, thanks for taking the time to read all of this (I hid it in a spoiler so that anyone who clicked couldn't complain about "too long, didn't read"), and thank you in advance for creating your future topics with the forum/tag location in mind.

It won't happen cause it would be abused and stuff that's why trading isn't allowed cause it will be abused
-
Probably after when the exclusive has ended.
-
Bungie wanted to be able to actual cross platform play. Microsoft and Sony said no. So probably not going to happen.
-
No, even though rock star can do it.
-
No xboxs pc and playstations runs on diffrent severs.......
-

-
Internal mechanics mean it would never happen.
-
Does Bungie read the forums? I really think this should happen. I own the ps4 and Xbox One and have friends on both........so I would like to use my character one both platforms. I not sure I'm up to grind a new toon for my Xbox One friends. lol Bungie would sell more copies of Destiny. I would pay for a copy for both systems. :)
-
It's possible for Bungie to do so, but because Microsoft and Sony want to keep the console wars going because that boosts their sales, neither company will allow it to happen. Which is funny because in reality, both companies highly respect each other and view themselves as equals instead of enemies.
-
You cant transfer your xbox/ps account to another platform that is why
-
No because money money money
-
Sony and Microsoft never play nicely unless piles of money are involved.
-
PLEASE THIS
-
I was thinking exactly the same.. Cauz' i've got friends on both systems... Some on the internet and some in real life, and i'd like it much !!!
-
For sure! Right after Israel and Iran start allowing people dual citizenship....
-
I wish, then when I do turn on Destiny on my ps4 instead of my xbone, I would probably actually play it. The only reasons I don't play it on ps4 is because that character is level 11, more friends on Xbox, had the Xbox version first. I'd like to try a hawkmoon, but can't seem to force myself to do the grind again...
-
Here what you have to do if you want this to happen.. You have to bitch and moan about it for a few months. Post pics of you crying about this issue and Bungie will do it
-
Yeah gta online does it I want destiny to be b.net account specific not gamer tag or pan specific it pisses me off because I want to buy a ps4 to play with real life friends like damn no on likes the Xbox one gosh damnit !!!
-
If Rockstar could do it, Bungie and Activi$ion should be able to
-
this should be a god damn priority, all the more when Bungie has said that you will be able to carry your character and all the goods to Destiny 2. I would buy a PS4, no questions about it, but the only game im playing right now with friends is destiny.
-
Would be nice but thats like asking them to give us cross platform online play
-
1. You would have to make the manufacturers actually want to work together 2. Yes our profile is on the destiny servers but they interact with PSN and xbox live differently 3. Yes the ps3 and ps4 are different but they run on the same back ends and are built on the same software

Here's one more fan wanting to GIVE MONEY to Bungie/Activision and Sony, should you allow cross-platform transfers, as follows: 1 x copy of Destiny & Dark Below expansion on PS4 1 x PS4 system It seems that after trying to convince my friends to buy Xbox One to play with them, it seems that most of them seem to prefer PS4. This means that by allowing the cross-platform transferrals, both Bungie and Sony would be set to make more money. Microsoft has already gotten my money when I bought theirr system. So please, if you are reading this, sort out the legal, technical and financial challenges and make this happen. Everyone would be much happier for it. -Justicus

I wish I could transfer. I play on xbone but just bought a ps4, don't have another spare 500 hours to catch up with myself. I'd actually pay IRL money for a one-off mirror
-
I wanted to do the same thing but now that I think about it, players on the Xbox 360/One can say F Microsoft and get a PS4 and get all the exclusives. If Bungie DID allow transfering characters from one console family to the other, original PS4 players will feel like they got ripped off because X360/One players come over with their level 30+ characters and get all the exclusives while PS4 players who are tired of Sony and move to Microsoft and get an Xbox One or 360, will have to make a new character since the exclusive items aren't available on that console family.

This is a good idea
