So we can transfer our progress and characters from PS3 to PS4 or 360 to Xbox One, which is pretty rad. I was just wondering what the technical hitch is that prevents me transfering from PS4 to Xbox One or 360 to PS4?
Presumably if I can go between PS3 and PS4, my profile is stored on a Bungie/Acti server somewhere and that allows it to move between platforms? Because it's not as if the PS3 and PS4 are similar in architecture any more than the 360 and PS4 are.
I have some friends playing on Xbox One that I want to play with and similarly I have some on PS4 that I want to play with. I'm buying the game on both formats, but it's a shame that I'll have to have two separate progress profiles for the two platforms.
I'd hoped when new B.net launched and we were able to link all our accounts here that we may get some sort of unified account that you could tap into from any console and access my characters and progress. Has this ever been suggested in an update or anything?
Ninja Edit
Hello OP (or anyone who has decided to open the spoiler and read all of this).
I'm one of the Bungie.Net Ninjas. We may have met before, we may have interacted, you might have heard of us, or you may have no clue as to who we are and what we do. Well, this little note is to explain some of the things we do. One of the major roles we play is to handle the reports that come in whenever a member clicks on the "Report" button, to let us know that there is a post, a topic or a user that either doesn't understand or isn't following the rules that we all agreed to follow when we joined. But that's not the Ninja function that brought on this note.
The reason I am writing this is because I have retagged your thread. Bungie.Net uses hashtags to designate their major forums and to help keep things organized. Your OP (original post) was opened, created or given a hashtag that well, wasn't the best choice. It could have been that you were browsing through the various forum/tags that are available on the site or app, and clicked on "New Topic" while in a forum that didn't "match up" with the subject matter of your OP. Or, you may have thought "this belongs here", when unfortunately, it doesn't.
That's another role of the Bungie.Net Ninjas. We not only try to keep things fun, pleasant and welcoming here by removing rule-breakers, but we also want EVERY good topic to have the best chance to survive, thrive, find the right audience, and get lots of on-topic replies. And so, I have retagged your topic to move it to the forum where it has the best chance of doing that.
I give you my word that I have not altered a single letter or character of your Original Post, just placed this message below it and set the tag to better describe your topic. You may notice that you are unable to edit this post anymore. That is a part of the system, and I apologize for any inconvenience that it may have caused. I've not replied or commented on your OP, since this message would most likely be "off-topic" to your thread and when members see a Ninja or Mentor (who are volunteers from the community) or even a Bungie employee post, they tend to go a little crazy and the disruption to the thread becomes a distraction. I don't want that to happen to your thread. I want it to be in the BEST place possible, to be seen by the largest audience who is looking for this sort of topic, I want it to take root, get replies, grow strong and make these forums a better place.
If you have any questions, you should feel free to PM me. My name is now in the upper right corner of your OP where it says "edited by".
Thanks for your patience, thanks for being a part of this community, thanks for taking the time to read all of this (I hid it in a spoiler so that anyone who clicked couldn't complain about "too long, didn't read"), and thank you in advance for creating your future topics with the forum/tag location in mind.

This is a good idea

The only way I would see it is if they did an update where you had your own bnet account, where all your progressed saved there. You would use this account to login rather than use your psn/gamertag. This would be so much easier for people that play both consoles. I feel like it would be a lot of work and a big update to do after the game has already been released. Maybe with comet or destiny 2 it will happen though
-
I would guess that Bungie has separate servers for Xbox and Playstation (most likely due to Microsoft and Sony's requirements) that store data for accounts separately. Otherwise there would be a whole can of worms to worry about, like PS exclusives transferring over.
-
Yea I had a lot of good stuff been a day one player on psn til december 2014 then I got xbox one and restarted everything yo
-
I really want this to happen I also believe that if enough people were to tweet bungie asking about this they would do it. It's not impossible because rockstar did this when they released gta for the One and PS4. Bungie can just have you make an account for their site linked to your characters and all their stuff.
-
no, they dont get along @ all
-
Im also very very anxious to know if Bungie has a method of doing this, and if not, do they plan too. My wife and I have spent far more time on this game than each of us feel we should, lol. But because of that we have characters that we'd hate to lose over the transfer. I know everyone says "It's not world of Warcraft! Get over it!" but when the only responses to this issue by bungie are that the consoles are built differently and on different servers, the only response I have is: Maybe you should go learn a thing or two from Blizzard about making this "epic" game you promised. World of Warcraft spans over countless PC Builds, platforms, and even Macs. Now THAT is epic! the feeling that one is restrict to one of the two companies makes the game feel petty and small, especially if one cant even transfer their characters from one companies console, to another. If the two competing companies are gonna make it a rivalry, then at least have fun with it and call Microsoft and Sony "factions"!
-
its all up to MS and Sony and they dont really like each other so i doubt it would happen but would be nice for those jumping cross platforms
-
This is meant to be an mmo and like all mmo your character is linked to your account not your device.
-
Nice pic

This is something I've been bugged about for a long time. In actuality, Xbox severs and PS servers could link at any time; the technology exists for that. This means that not only should you be able to transfer your bungie account, but everyone should be able to play with their friends, or indeed anyone, across platforms. Unfortunately, this will probably never happen because of the corporate complications, as well as the simple fact that Microsoft and Sony are rivals to each other.
-
That'd be awesome. Even if I had to pay.. I'd definitely do it
-
Maybe when Xbox users get the exclusive items that PlayStation users have.
-
It's tied to your gamertag/psn account so no, I don't see it
-
I wish that was possible. I have small group of friends o the PS4 that play, real life friends. All of my online friends are xbox though.

-
I will straight up buy a playstation if that happens. (Yes I will still own and play an xbox one)
-
One question...WHY THE F*** WOULD YOU WANT TO SWITCH TO PLAYSTATION?!!!! ARE YOU STUPID?!
-
It's not technical, it's economical. Sony doesn't want you buying a microsoft product, and the opposite is true, so they want you to stay on their platform.
-
Honestly from a programming stand point, there is no real reason they can't do it now.
-
The issue is the exclusives. They keep them separated so players from playstation cant bring the exclusives to xbox. Blame sony
-
No 2 different companies
-
Never.
-
The issue is money. And corporations. And the man. ::Hugs tree::
