So we can transfer our progress and characters from PS3 to PS4 or 360 to Xbox One, which is pretty rad. I was just wondering what the technical hitch is that prevents me transfering from PS4 to Xbox One or 360 to PS4?
Presumably if I can go between PS3 and PS4, my profile is stored on a Bungie/Acti server somewhere and that allows it to move between platforms? Because it's not as if the PS3 and PS4 are similar in architecture any more than the 360 and PS4 are.
I have some friends playing on Xbox One that I want to play with and similarly I have some on PS4 that I want to play with. I'm buying the game on both formats, but it's a shame that I'll have to have two separate progress profiles for the two platforms.
I'd hoped when new B.net launched and we were able to link all our accounts here that we may get some sort of unified account that you could tap into from any console and access my characters and progress. Has this ever been suggested in an update or anything?
Ninja Edit
Hello OP (or anyone who has decided to open the spoiler and read all of this).
I'm one of the Bungie.Net Ninjas. We may have met before, we may have interacted, you might have heard of us, or you may have no clue as to who we are and what we do. Well, this little note is to explain some of the things we do. One of the major roles we play is to handle the reports that come in whenever a member clicks on the "Report" button, to let us know that there is a post, a topic or a user that either doesn't understand or isn't following the rules that we all agreed to follow when we joined. But that's not the Ninja function that brought on this note.
The reason I am writing this is because I have retagged your thread. Bungie.Net uses hashtags to designate their major forums and to help keep things organized. Your OP (original post) was opened, created or given a hashtag that well, wasn't the best choice. It could have been that you were browsing through the various forum/tags that are available on the site or app, and clicked on "New Topic" while in a forum that didn't "match up" with the subject matter of your OP. Or, you may have thought "this belongs here", when unfortunately, it doesn't.
That's another role of the Bungie.Net Ninjas. We not only try to keep things fun, pleasant and welcoming here by removing rule-breakers, but we also want EVERY good topic to have the best chance to survive, thrive, find the right audience, and get lots of on-topic replies. And so, I have retagged your topic to move it to the forum where it has the best chance of doing that.
I give you my word that I have not altered a single letter or character of your Original Post, just placed this message below it and set the tag to better describe your topic. You may notice that you are unable to edit this post anymore. That is a part of the system, and I apologize for any inconvenience that it may have caused. I've not replied or commented on your OP, since this message would most likely be "off-topic" to your thread and when members see a Ninja or Mentor (who are volunteers from the community) or even a Bungie employee post, they tend to go a little crazy and the disruption to the thread becomes a distraction. I don't want that to happen to your thread. I want it to be in the BEST place possible, to be seen by the largest audience who is looking for this sort of topic, I want it to take root, get replies, grow strong and make these forums a better place.
If you have any questions, you should feel free to PM me. My name is now in the upper right corner of your OP where it says "edited by".
Thanks for your patience, thanks for being a part of this community, thanks for taking the time to read all of this (I hid it in a spoiler so that anyone who clicked couldn't complain about "too long, didn't read"), and thank you in advance for creating your future topics with the forum/tag location in mind.

Please Bungie, make this happen!
-
No on every game because they're different console families
-
-
The graphic cards are different and so is the hardware. What if you were going from PSN to Xbox? Would you keep Hawkmoon
-
Your progress is saved on your psn, that's why u don't have your progress if u make a new psn. U can't do Xbox-playstayion because...ya know.... They're kinda big competitors..
-
No don't be stupid
-
If they ever do in this console generation I'd be happy, but I'd also go ape shit. I quit playing on PS4 to Raid with my close friends on Xbox One. If they were going to do it, they should have done it 7 months ago, when I abandoned all my characters and gear to start over and level up three more characters.
-
Its probably due to data configuration or maybe simply Sony and Microsoft are still going neener neener im better at each other
-
I would love this. I have friends on both systems I'd like to play with and I was able to transfer my PS3 GTAV online progress to my Xbone. If Rockstar can make it happen, why can't Bungie? I just got a PS4 last week so I'd really like to check those exclusive guns out.

I doubt we will ever get to cross play because of servers. But I do agree that the whole thing is linked to a bungie profile, therefore it is feasible. I would think what holds it back right now are they exclusives. If you have a hawkmoon from PS and show up on Xbox, aside from the butt hurt it will cause, I am sure it would constitute as a clear violation of the contract they have with PS. Granted there are things that could fix this, but I am sure it is easier to wait.

Never. Diff Servers. They would never partner. Too Expensive.
-
Blame the companies :/
-
-
I feel like there would be a risk of stealing accounts, since to my knowledge there is not currently a link between a psn and live account. What would stop someone on psn from linking to your live account and transferring your characters away from you?
-
Yessss come to us -playstation
-
Sadly no. I had to start over on Xbone. I have 3 32s on PS4
-
BUMP !!!
-
Screw that! I want Xbox 360 to Xbox One! Idk, maybe they'll do that for Destiny 2 considering they've mentioned carrying over character progression.
-
No. Different networks, they would have to actually download onto a neutral server and change networks, then it's a question of if it will work appropriately since they are different systems

Edited by h0ph3ad187: 4/23/2015 1:36:29 PMnope. i started on xbox one and had to restart in december when i sold that piece of junk and bought a ps4. only can upgrade within the same family.

Instead of wasting 20 minutes of your life through forums, your question could have been answered through a 5 second search on google.

Microsoft and Sony won't allow it. For years now, cross-console play(Xbox vs Playstation players) has been a possibility, even done on Dev consoles... bit the two companies won't allow it publicly.

Edited by Fromage of Havoc: 4/23/2015 1:15:29 PMGranted we can't even get shit transferred between PC & PlayStation most of the time, probably never. Publishers love to point the blame on Sony or Microsoft when it comes to the business decision of not allowing for data copy or platform transfers.
Reason for edit: see SargentChippy's comment.
It won't happen cause it would be abused and stuff that's why trading isn't allowed cause it will be abused
