Since these are environmental issues it seems like the exact kind of thing bungie could fix with updates to their servers. They did mention things like dynamic weather. So for all we know, the full version solves everything you've brought up. But if not just keep talking about it after the release and bungie will do something. If not now then when they make the sequel.

I understand that it may be in the final version, but I don't want to begin buying into Destiny the same way people buy into COD. I don't want to fork out $99 every 1.5 years for a slightly better game with a number added onto the end. I want destiny to be a game we can enjoy over a long period of time and I refuse to allow Bungie fall below the standards they have set in the past with the halo series (I will not relive their mistakes). Also they did say that no major changes will be added to the game so while I cant say that dynamic weather wont be in the game, I am almost certain that some features I have listed will be excluded completely from the final.

Edited by MonkeyD: 9/7/2014 4:59:34 PMI get you, I think games like cod, assassin's creed, etc. Have shown what not to do in terms of just shooting out yearly titles. I think it cheapens the series too. But I genuinely liked what I saw in the beta, and bungie did say they held a lot back from the beta. I think if the devs are careful, destiny could end up a great franchise. Plus, it seems like they actually listen to the forum. Pat of why assassin's creed 2 was so amazing was because Ubisoft opened a forum after the first game, and listened to suggestions. I think destiny will be awesome, (I only buy the basic version though, so I've invested less into it) but I think destiny 2 will be where the series really shines.
-
I'm glad you found it to be enjoyable and you could be right about destiny improving from the beta due to unlocked content. However this is Activision we are talking about. They have already stated that no major changes will be coming to this game (in a way that suggests if we are after change buy the second installment) and while it is good to support franchises I will not support and purchase a full retail price game on the premise that I will have to buy the second to see improvement. Isn't it sad that we are already talking about sequels before the game is released? I didn't think destiny would be the game where we say "well if the first one is bad, lets just wait for the second". It's just not what I expected to hear.
-
I hear you. The only reason that I use the sequel excuse is because the contract with Activision includes a specific number of sequels. Otherwise, it's a pretty lame excuse. At this point it's too late to expect changes. I think as we go on we'll be surprised. While the ai at a glance looks like classic bungie work, I'm sure they're put in a few treats fire those of us who care enough to really stand back and watch the ai at work. I'm not expecting Thief(old not new) level interactions, it's just not that type of game, but I think it will be pretty cool none the less.
-
Fair enough, you are right about expecting changes too. The AI really bugged me but hopefully that changes come launch with restrictions relaxed. I am just expecting a game that was worthy of all the resources poured into it. Thats really all I'm looking for. I guess we will all know by tomorrow morning.

I do agree. If you listen at the tower, The NPC actually have some pretty interesting background conversations. I thought that was pretty well done. Though, I get what you mean about wanting more interaction, it would be cool to be able to explore the last city, maybe have several shops there that each have different items rotating through, and different prices on the same item, etc. Maybe side quests to help you discover who you were before you were brought back to life as a guardian. And I'd really like to see the enemies as living soldiers, not just dungeon crawlers like from an old zelda game. Maybe actively watch a shift change, see guards switch off, maybe see enemy bases move around the environment as they conquer and abandon different parts of the map. Seriously active weather, like hail, and snow (In pokemon black/white, I think every couple of weeks the season changed and you'd see it in the environment). At the same time I think what they already have is amazing, and adding the aforementioned effects on a server oriented game like this would be a gigantic undertaking. I mean, how well could we even stream the full game, plus added particle effects like hail and snow? It's not like we're in kansas city with free google fiber optic. I would like to see things like enemy bodies being persistent when you kill them, maybe have the next "shift" discover the bodies and drag them away, leave a devilwalker laying there after it's defeated, etc. But that would be pretty hard (and in some cases useless) to implement too, especially during those bottlenecked areas of the map that are really only meant for players going through a mission. Either way, we'll find out if it was worth the price of admission on the 9th.
-
So after playing for a few days I must ask. Was it worth the price of admission?
-
Edited by MonkeyD: 9/12/2014 4:35:05 PMI think it was. It's not flawless by any means, and I'm not at level 20 yet (guys I've played with have said that's when it really opens up.) It's definitely more of a shooter/mmo than an rpg. But I really like it so far. How about you?
-
Not the same here I'm afraid. It is far below what I had expected even after the beta especially when it comes to the story (such a letdown). The way you earn legendaries annoys me as well since the only way to get them is to grind one way or the other. Also the majority of the issues I brought up in my initial post are still there. Maybe when I can get it for around $40 I'll get back into it but for now unfortunately I'm taking it back. Its not worth the $150 I paid for it.
-
I'll agree with that. I'd be upset if I bought some special edition, but I just got the basic. Plus, I went in thinking of it as an mmo type of thing, so I figured there would be mission grinding. I like it so far. But if you're not the type for classic mmo type gameplay then it won't be fun for you. I'll say this, the one thing that totally pissed me off wa the fact that you need ps+ to form a fireteam. One of the single most advertised features in the game should not need to be paid for. I'm already using their servers just by playing the game, fireteams should be free.
-
Are you serious? That is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard of. I seriously hope this doesn't start a trend. As for grinding I can take some grind but when you grind throughout an entire game to do the same thing over and over again it really takes the fun out of it for me.
-
Edited by MonkeyD: 9/12/2014 5:12:02 PMIt does kill the plot when you have to play the same mission over and over. And yeah, paid fire teams is ridiculous, I was fuming when I saw it. What's even more ridiculous: you need ps+ for multiplayer, which isn't a big deal, but you level up faster in multiplayer. Which really bugs me. I like the game, but they made some ducked up choices to make a little extra cash. I'll admit that this is more on Sony, as it's there servers, but bungie should have fought harder. For all of that exclusivity Sony got, they could have at least let free fire teams into the game...
-
Yeah I really don't agree with some of the decisions made here. As for the strikes I really detest that we have to wait longer for them from the get go, this content should have been prepared for launch if it is so integral to the enjoyment of the game. -_-
-
Wow, beat the last story mission s couple of days ago, and while gameplay is fun, the plot was terrible, it feels like they cut a ton of content. What is the point of the reef if we only go there twice? And wtf is the exo stranger? Who, again, we only met twice.I love the gameplay, but that awful plot and all of the loose ends really make me cringe. I think of I paid extra for the ghost edition or something I'd seriously consider returning it or selling it on eBay. That along with the fact that you have to have ps+ to form fireteams, strike missions, or pvp leaves me feeling really conflicted about destiny...
-
It has failed to deliver on almost every level except the the gameplay, graphics and gun customisation. The narrative wasn't even worthy of the title.
-
I have to agree with you 100% It's too bad, so much potential, especially in the plot/lore. It just feels like half of the content was cut. I had no real connection to any npc. Even the ghost was just so lifeless that I couldn't see it as anything other than an accessory.
-
The only reason why I still play the game is to get 1 legendary weapon before I quit and that is more out of stubbornness than enjoyment. I was excited to hear about the queens wrath content however it is an event that only lasts a few weeks...... they don't have enough content in this game to start restricting it after a few weeks, I'll sit down and play it and once I get through that content or when it ends I'm just going to be bored all over again. It feels like I am just waiting for an awful cycle to kick in.
-
Yeah, I'm having a hard time playing after that horrible ending: "here's a gun, now get back out there" I may be spoiled by the plot from games like Dragon age 2 or red dead, but the plot was just awful.
-
The gun isn't even that great, it should at least be at level 20. I mean c'mon I just defeated a god, that in itself should be reason enough to give me a legendary weapon.
