I can understand why current gen can't play with next gen - because of the unfair advantage offered the next gen player via the higher graphics/pixel count. But why can't PS3/PS4 owners play with Xbox 360/XOne owners? Is it a Sony, Microsoft copyright/software/trying to do each other in issue or something?
Allowing a bridge between the two would mean more players filling the halls of Destiny on any console generation. Surely that would only be a tremendously good thing for everyone involved.

If Sony gets cross play between themselves the PC and the Steam Machine hopefully Microsoft will wake up when they are being pushed out of the multiplayer market.

I read somewhere that Sony is fine with it but MS doesn't want cross play. Look at how ff14 is cross play between pc, ps3 and ps4. It's all up to MS now.

1 ReplySony and Microsoft are like the Hatfields and McCoys... No way will they play together... to the detriment of the gaming community.

Microsoft and Sony are uptight bastards

cats and dogs dude..need i say more?

1 ReplyIt would be really nice to have crossplatform with Destiny. We can always hope they add it later.
-
8 RepliesMicrosoft don't allow it unfortunately :-(

1 ReplyThe reason is, if it was cross platform, exclusives wouldnt be up for bargain. It would make the game unfair for xbox so, They took c-p and gave sony their exclusive shit to make them feel warm and fuzzy

3 Replieswith no fanboyism, its most likely microsofts fault. when the latest mmo final fantasy was released it it was not released on x1 due to microsoft not wanting to allow cross play which square enix insisted on, they game was cross played between ps4 and pc. again not a fanboy, i own both a ps4 and an x1 and actually chose destiny on the x1.

It's likely a combination of all of the above. Technically there's nothing stopping any developer from doing this (We have seen bugs from Call of Duty which have done exactly this). I can think of multiple reasons why neither Microsoft nor Sony would want this, especially in terms of sales and pushing consoles. There is also an issue with in-game chat, which for a lot of Xbox'ers, we have been used to the party system for a while, so integrating with that would likely be highly protected. (Although, there is Skype, perhaps a PS3/4 skype version to resolve?)
