You're forgetting three things:
1 - rising cost of development - games have become vastly more expensive to create over the course of the past decade
2 - inflation - the value of the US dollar has dropped harshly as well, also in the past ten years
3 - Games have been $59.99 for the entire time.
Costs go up, revenue value goes down, and the consumer cost stays the same? Sounds like the perfect storm for anyone trying to keep their employees in the office.
As such, I'm perfectly fine with post-launch DLC for any game honestly. The gaming industry is a business, if it doesn't turn a profit, it will die. I support my favorite developers and I support the industry.
