Offline Mode in Destiny

There should be an option between Offline and Online in Destiny. For those Guardians who have unstable Internet. Watch_Dogs had this option. Think years from now you may wanna return to Destiny. An example, you try to play this game and the servers are offline. Your disc/digital is now useless. Here's more to think about. How much time and money have you spent in Destiny?

  • I'm necro-bumping this, because I want an offline version with my year one weapon balances back. I'm sick of this rotating meta garbage. I want The Last Word to FEEL like it did in year one instead of the trash it feels like now. Because I play for the feeling, not some arbitrary ideal of technical balance. Give me an offline version so I can just enjoy the game that I bought and originally enjoyed instead of this new game every patch feces.

  • I totally agree, the fact I paid over $100 on this game alone is enough reason for me to play it with internet or not.

  •
Think years from now you may wanna return to Destiny.
This is why I'm worried about an all-digital future, because when the servers go down all there's left is memories. It seems publishers don't benefit from collectors buying their products used, so they want to stamp them out. Fair game, but it still sucks for those who are into heritage and legacy. Destiny can have an offline mode and it can work but there's all kinds of things that could easily prevent it being enjoyable when those people go online. I'm talking about exploiting glimmer, farming, power levelling and all kinds of things that put you at an unfair advantage above those who did everything online. That said, if the Bungie team are willing to crack down on these players the moment they come online I welcome an offline mode. If too much of the data is on the servers to make an offline mode I don't want Bungie to trouble themselves, but perhaps for the sequel(s) there could be more options for those who want to play in different worlds. What I'd like to know from those who support an offline mode is what they intend on doing alone that they can't with other players.

  • Sometimes you just can't get better internet, I know, I was stuck with satellite internet for a year the damn data caps per month sucked and the $$ was way to high, then I went with verizon broadband (besides dial up that all there was) it was ok but still the damn data cap sucked, and 4g was new to my area so it kept dropping to 1x, in the end we had to just move and that sucked, I got cable now, but I lost my man cave/game room

I think it would be great to have at least the option for offline. And everything would just update when ever you connect to the internet once in a while just an option that would make me personally happy. Oh and bungie said they wanted to evolve and update the game to make it better? So a high profile patch like this wouldn't be so negative, it would instead calm a lot of consumers down when they get frustrated when servers crash because it is inevitable

    • Offline would be awesome, but I would say offline play wouldn't pertain to online play. Meaning nothing you do offline would affect your online play; not money, leveling, gear "unless it was offline campaign specific which everyone could get "free"", items and cards... Etc. Maybe that could be implemented? :)

          • I live on base with family and they only allow comcast, problem is, comcast internet sucks. They completely lie to you as well, they tell you everything is fine, when it's not. My brother-in-law pays for 50 mps, but he had it tested by one of their techs, he's only getting 35 at the most. It'll drop as low as 9...NINE. I'll play a majority of a mission, be at a cool moment, and get kicked...every time. Haven't played in a week, maybe I'll give it a try today...

          • For all those saying offline is great idea. Consider your console is nothing more than a computer "terminal" to access the application. All the data tracking, daily story updates and storage of data is done on the Destiny servers. Our consoles look they contain all graphics data to draw the world and interface to talk to the servers. Nothing more. Without your Internet connect to their servers, you have nothing in the way of a game. I would buy a game like Dragon Age: Inquisition that is single player and plays offline if you have concerns about having day(s) where you not able to connect to the Internet. You are never going to get offline with the game. Try to accept that and move on.

            • i just got kicked off my "last mission for the night" so im a little upset right now i would like to have something like offline play at the very least let me play for like an hour while the server is down then next time its up things get updated and let me have an hour or so next time its down (crabby me talking)there is nothing i love more in this game than going into a respawn restricted area since then im not going to have to deal with other players sure i'll save some one here and there but thats it mainly i got one friend that i would play online with but he has an xbone and me a ps4 so im out of luck and i dont like to make friends online( yes i know this could be my main problem but if you cant do split screen its almost not worth it) i dont really care for the online part too much besides public events im never going to touch the pvp then again im a guy yhat plays mmos for the game itself while avoiding other players (online im actively a hermit in real life i just have a hard time breaking the ice) i would love to came back to this game one but what if the zombie apocalypse happens and when i FINALLY have some down time i want to play one the last games i bought only to find out i need to connect to the server its not like my generator will give me internet

            • Except for the fact that you would have no bounties, public events, the stores wouldn't reset there inventory, and all the stuff that the server dose. So all in all horrible idea.

                • That would be very good option if you want to play when on a long distance bus or train on a portable console if there is such a thing.

                • How about a back story of a character or characters we meet in Destiny as an offline game. Bungie have said they want to create lore around the game. Like ODST and Reach from the Halo universe? Those Ewokens with Fallen body guards look like fun. They live in the wild so how did they get there? Where are their families or communities? How did they end up working with a Fallen group? Or are their body guards outcasts? How many other communities are there? What if this back story earned you new contacts in the tower for different gear for our guardians instead of gear itself or possibly unlocked a new area in Destiny to find a treasure hoard. Bungie talk about how good their new environment tool is so this should be easy enough. Just need a story that works.

                • If a lot of us are still playing Destiny it will keep going. Contracts for at least 10 years not 10 years only

                • How about a side story that's offline? Whether DLC or another game that impacts on your Guardian. Kind of like pub games for Fable but a lot bigger and better say in the Last Safe City or another colony that isn't safe and you need to defend it like ODST firefight. Would that help?

                  • The thing is it's not an off line game, it's a persistent world, everything you do is stored on a server just like WoW or other MMORPG games. It has a single player element to it but unlike COD and others it's not a campaign where your progress is stored locally on your machine. That's the reason it would never work.
