GDD - Game Design and Development
What I'm learning about is so interesting. Basically, a large portion of game companies break the basic rules of making a good game, which brings me to Halo 4 and 343i...
They did things very, very wrong. This textbook I'm reading explicitly states:
DO NOT MAKE A GAME THAT FOLLOW THE MARKET TREND; IT WILL NOT BE SUCCESSFUL
A bunch of other small stuff, but the good news is that the newer Halo games are following what I've read very well.

Take your time. 343 took their time developing the game, and the overall game worked fantastic at launch. They just made some bad calls within the game itself, which is why it wasn't as popular with the Halo community, but I still found it to be a good game.
