My assumption is that as you increase the level of your guardians(s) you will replay previous missions. When doing so we will most likely raise the difficulty a bit to increase the challenge (read: fun).
It was revealed there would be up to five tiers of difficulty for most missions. During the beta it was possible to replay early story segments on normal or hard.
I noticed the description for a higher difficulty described the enemies as more numerous and aggressive. My question is this; Does playing at a higher tier difficulty yield better quality or more frequent loot drops?
I cannot find a satisfactory answer for this...
Would it be a viable strategy to 'push the envelope' for the best gear or are the difficulty tiers more about player enjoyment...?

More enemies = More Engrams. More Engrams = More chance for gear.

Most loot based games will drop more rare items on higher difficulties, however I can't say for sure on destiny. My assumption would be yes, the higher difficulties will yield higher chances for rare/legendary loot.

Depends what you mean by better, if mean gear for a higher level then yes.
