Bungie isn't giving out review copies of Destiny until the day before release? How is the press supposed to put together a meaningful and thoughtful review in less than a day?
I'm pretty excited for this game, but shutting out the media like this adds to the suspicion that maybe this game isn't as large as we are expecting.

Never trust the "gaming journalists"

Edited by skelingtin: 9/2/2014 10:06:47 PMThat is worrisome. Coincidently, every time this has happened there was a flaw in the game the dev's were trying to hide. I still have hope for this game but that is a very irksome red flag.
-
Huge red flag.
-
HA!! You think reviewers are gonna play more than 30 minutes and write a meaningful review? That'll be the day...
-
Cuz they had a public beta. The don't need to ship reviewer copy's so they can play it first.
-
i like it. now people can have their own opinions and not go with "4/10 not cod -ign" and other bullshit. most reviews are based of opinions anyways. play the game or watch the videos, thats the best experience to tell if the game suits you or if you think it sucks. having other people influence just ruins it. i played many games with bad score and in the end they were great. also: no story spoilers. another +

I don't need no d00ds at IGN telling me what to play, they can play the game the same time as us.
-
Boohoo.
-
They will not, under any circumstance, make the servers live before they have to. So it only makes sense to do this. How can the media review a game they can't play before the rest of us anyway?
-
Consider the always online nature it would be quite the work arranging some form of server access, especially if the pre order number is so big as the claim, in there eyes they don't need reviews to rack in more pre orders, rather serving to entice anyone on the fence of a post launch purchase.
-
That is good make em play with the gamers for a change.
-
Good. Play it (almost) the same time as the rest of us. And I don't have a problem with them getting it that late. They don't need to be able to play it that early. There was a beta and that should honestly be enough to do coverage on. and as far as reviews, they can wait for the game to come out. No one is going to say "oh no it's the day of and there aren't any fully detailed reviews. NEVER BUYING IT" and if they do then they're stupid.
-
I think its to allow everyone to enjoy the game together or at least as closely as possible. If the media starts letting out secrets, story line details, and rating the game before everyone starts to play it will take away from the joy of the game.
-
I don't believe this is the case. I think they are making the hype train run so much harder. Think about how many people are going to be watching for anything Destiny come the 8th. Whether it be reviews or some company like ign streaming it... I believe this is hype not size shiz.
-
I find that the best reviews come out after a game is released. That way the emotions of all the hyped feelings are not mixed in, giving a false review. Besides I'm old skool, and I'm used to when reviews for a game wouldn't come out until weeks and weeks after a game released. We had to wait until it hit magazine stands.
-
The Beta has given everyone enough information to make a preview of. And since a review is made after the game is released it makes sense the press wont get early access. And the servers go up for the entire world at once, so it wont even matter if they'd get them earlier. Not like they could play it
-
or the fact that you folks have a bad habit of leaking every detail you can about the game and story ,plus it's a way to ensure that you won't get too far ahead in levels compared to everyone else.
-
Marketing Mystery... Gotta love it.
-
You bring up a good point. Tyler Perry never releases his movies to critics before the opening weekend.
-
I rolled my eyes hard when he called it "sub-optimal news."
-
Good.

Press "embargos" like this are part of the business. Its how you keep irresponsible members of the media from handing out copies of the game to friends to play early, or releasing spoilers that might hurt sales. All major gaming media outlets have had access to the various versions of this game for months. All that post-release reviews will be doing is looking at how the final build is different from the alpha/beta. ...and they can do that easily after getting the game when the rest of us do.
-
They would most likely be holding back cause the servers won't be up for them to play and there would be such a small population that it would be not as communal as they want it to be.
-
Lol awwww you going have to work for your article? So sorry you have to work at your job to play all day and give a review
-
It's so the media doesn't leak everything before hand, as has been done in te past. Most good reviewers will wait to finish reviewing destiny as it is a living world that has to be experienced over time.
-
I wouldn't watch a review anyways.
