I'm from Brisbane, obviously it was an exaggeration, but in terms of internet speed worldwide we do rank pretty poorly considering our economy. The FTTN fiber rollout they are doing now is already becoming redundant in most other countries, has no upgradability and still relies on the copper cables which are nearing or past their life expectancies, they also are easily affected by water and other environmental factors. I was just poking fun at how short sighted our government is, this FTTN rollout they started after scrapping the "more expensive" FTTP rollout will end up costing us billions more unnecessarily in the coming years. The savings they claimed will be short lived, seeing as everything they put in for the fttn rollout besides the fiber optic backbone cables themselves will be redundant and unable to be used again when they finally realise the mistake they have made.
